Burning

It's come to my attention that a raid could easily burn down a whole city, I mean this is slightly off putting.  If a city is made of wood and a group doesn't like them, they can walk in torch the whole place and a gm may agree to it.  I believe that there should be a rule, for VA's that allow SMALL burning in areas, 2 buildings max, and no burning if no ones around to stop it.

1C - Arson / Destruction of Property- The act of lighting a building, tent, support, or whatever else makes logical sense, on fire. Destroying the property of an individual, whether to use it as a entrance, to gain resources, or to cause chaos. (In the instance of destroying/burning a building, or for small or tasteful destruction, such as the vandalism of a gravestone, removal of a tree, or destruction of a window, the amount of damage falls to the discretion of the GM overseeing it. Such thing as total burning down of a building should rarely happen.) The deliberate act of going someplace with intention of breaking belongings. Whether it be from item frames, signs, chairs, stairs, windows, etc.

This rule needs to be edited that makes it so someone MUST be around to stop it, and that only a few buildings can be burned, otherwise I could make a pyro 14 year old character that sets fire to all of malinor just because she wants to have fun!

I mean you could easily just put some oil down, light up a tree, poof malinors gone.

Get the right GM or SM and they will allow you to do it.

Anyone else see an issue with this?

Malinor is a bad example. Most of the buildings are made from Elderwood , which can't be burned. Or atleast that's what I've heard.

A GM would not let you burn down an entire city, sorry.

They let the dwarves burn down half of abresi once.  And Malinor was an example, some of it was just regular wood.

Elderwood is only like that when it's alive, as in still part of the tree.

I agree with the point where people should be online, but I personally wouldn't care if people were online and the entire city was burnt. It's a video game. A VIDEO GAME. It's pixels.

It's Malinor's own damn fault for making houses out of wood.

Besides, it wouldn't do anything as people like to ignore burning things.

We burned a library the other day despite 10 people behind us chatting away without doing anything.

I see it like this, with many villainous things, it's under the GM/SM's discretion. We are trusted to have the right brain to pick how much someone can burn. It the same with theft, and all kind of other villainous things. If we as a moderator fail at that, by either burning too much, stealing too much or whatever, we get consequences. That could mean we get yelled at, or removed. Arson would be easy to fix, as a GM could easily rollback the area.

Lets not put MORE restrictions on things though? And even then, I'm sorry to tell you guys but GMs and SMs don't follow the VA rules to the letter. Sometimes it's because they don't know them well enough, but even I (I know the VA rules, pretty well) don't follow them perfectly. If you keep failing your lockpick but your emotes are really good and there are people around, sure I'll give you an extra try or two. If this rule is implemented, I promise there will be exceptions to it.

I know, a lot of arson I do, I avoid chests. Basically I just break blocks. That way, the people that are burning stuff can enjoy themselves but the victims aren't ruined.

TLDR-

I don't think adding more restrictions to LOTC or Villains is the way to go right now.

This was one instance the two nations were at war with one another.

yet i see you forget the most important rule you are to provide fun to both partys that is pretty easy to remember and follow its one of the basic rules of LOTC how is it fun to have all your city burnt to the ground?

I disagree on the bit about people being around since it can be VERY annoying when you want to burn something and the person is not online but I do think there should be a limit as to how much you can burn. Say a certain amount of buildings under 6x6 and one building over per day?

Not much more needs to be said on the matter.

Scared of people wanting to burn your town down? Close it's gates.

Don't want it burnt down? Don't make it of only burnable substances.

It is true that role-play should be fun for both parties, but having a building or two doesn't ruin role-play or "fun", it adds to it and gives you more chances for fun.
