Dwarves And Magic

 Share

Recommended Posts

I was told that Dwarves are incapable of using magic unless they are born into the Irongut clan. Is this true?

Because I'm seeing quite a few non-irongut dwarves use void magic.

I'm just wondering if it's still the case.

Couldnt this just have been a status, Cyndicate?

From what I know- Magic is not inherently locked in the Irongut clan, or else it RPLY is supposed to be- but with all dwarves having bastard children with unknown bar wenches, who's to say they ARENT related to the Irongut clan.

it should be just irongut mages and not other dwarves

Only Ironguts can use magic because of the fact they have aengul blood and some of the original Ironguts were ascendeded

Generally speaking we just say that you have a irongut relative if you use void magic. However, dwarves can not use void magic unless they have irongut relatives as a general rule.

Just gonna copy and paste this:

The quick answer? Dwarves can do magic. We had a discussion with the LM's awhile ago, the short answer was dwarves can do magic. In regards to us claiming we have a magic buff that's due to the blessing. The reason Ironguts are special snowflakes is because they have Aengul blood.  So basicly what this means in short is Dwarves, can do magic but dwarves like to rp they have a slight resistant in return for longer learning times. By the way the trade off is normally when the dwarf learns magic he loses his resistant. Or most of it so it basicly becomes obselite.

The only difference really between an Irongut and a normal dwarf when it comes to magic is that the Ironguts have a higher affinity to it. Whilst the "normals have a higher resistance. I would stress "minor", really all that it allows us to do is cope with magic attacks slightly better and be able to work with thanhic ore more easily. Although we still can't just shrug off attacks or break out of illusions so easily. Unless this has changed, with a certain group now getting anti-magic buffs instead.

Tally-ho! I see a thread!

Hello chaps and chapettes, let us explain this over tea!

Any restrictions the dwarves put on themselves in regards to magic are their own choice. Thus, if they want to say their dwarf can't do magic because they're not an Irongut, they may. However, one does not have to be an Irongut to do magic if they do not want to be.

Now, good friends of Malinor, let us look at the dwarven "resistance" to magic itself. Go look at the plugin, you have 2 extra hearts. Your blessing is being resilient.

Your 2 extra hearts mean you take less damage from everything. That doesn't mean a fireball doesn't burn you, it does mean you are more resilient and have more health.

Lets make this easy, if we see an dwarf who isn't a Irongut and is using magic. Bad news for them

Magic is taboo if you aren't a confirmed relative of the Irongut clan. If you attempted to use typical arcane magic, you would be metagaming the fact that you could use it.

There is such a big stigma on it, and it is so integrated into the dwarven culture that all dwarves believe, completly believe that they cannot use magic. All dwarves also believe that only those related to the Ironguts, or those that are Ironguts themselves can use it.

This is so integrated into the dwarven belief, that even to think that you could use magic when you are not an irongut is impossible. It's something you've been told over and over since you were a wee lad, and therefor you effectively cut yourself off from the void threw believing(In your mind knowing) that you cannot use magic. The exceptions are magics that don't come from the void, such as Shamanism, Necromancy, Druidism, etc.

Cultural onset belief doesn't mean you should have more health AND magic resistance AND knock back resistance.

We already have resillience, and as you can clearly see from my post I am not arguing for a resistance, I am just explaining something. Please read it again if you missunderstood it, or I can explain it once more in clearer terms.
