Enforce A Standard For Building In 4.0

This idea is simple. Enforce a standard of building quality come 4.0 so we don't have a repeat of the Fringe/Anthos Wilds with hundreds of useless nonsensical structures popping out of the ground.

  • Get rid of (with worldedit) half-built structures that sit somewhere for several weeks and fester (so we don't have half-built megatrees and useless cobble box shells of a castle laying around in freebuild)
  • /br smooth structures that would cave in until they look like they've caved in.
  • Punish people for massive landscarring (like clearcutting forests or leaving large amounts of floating trees, breaking nice landscape in worldpainted areas)
  • Ban strip-miners
  • Recompensate anyone whose structure was removed with worldedit so we're not being overly harsh.
  • Cave in giant underground eyesores with no supports.
  • basically just prevent people from making random never finished things, nonsensical and ugly buildings, and massive scars on the land

This isn't overly articulate, I'm very tired. The jist is, please don't allow a second Fringe to happen in 4.0.

I think clearing a butt load of trees doesnt necessitate any action unless there is something indicating that it was done for RP purposes. Like doing a clear cut, to ready new land and what not. Just put a sign there and say you wanted to clear our potential dangers in the area or something, so you could have perfect vision within the area.

The other stuff though should have always been 100%, no matter what.

I think that moderators should moderate builds, aye, but not too much. If they seem to be too much of an eye-sore, just roleplay a fire burning them down or an earthquake. I do hope that builds improve when we reach 4.0, but if they're anything like now, I have my doubts. We've seen what build freedom does and it's not so good.

I never got why people cared about strip mining. 0 RP happens in mines from my experience. It takes away rp, having to break 3.5x more blocks for every bit of tunnel.

Hell, also build making sense. Add foundations, don't build a wall in the middle of the ocean because, naturally, the waves will bring it down. Build making logical sense. Terraform nicely if you need to. Push the mountain back a little, dig a nice zig-zagging river and make sure it looks natural. People forget they can also alter the landscape, keeping it beautiful, so their buildings fit in it, and instead they force their structures onto the map :P

Cutting down assloads of trees just kills scenery and makes it more difficult for new players to get resources. I honestly didn't ever think it was a terrible thing to do but I don't smile upon it.

This would be the ideal scenario, that or a wandering wizard-esque figure blowing the buildings to ****, etc.

It's really just to prevent landscarring and to restrict the amount of ore someone can get (driving the economy and preventing xrayers from flooding the market)

I remember when dusk beat us for "ruining" he caves and/or mines. She was an abusive mother :(

But seriously. It seems like every time there is a new map(How of these will there be. Is this just a nonstop yearly thing?... Different subject) it starts off well. I helped build 3.0 human area, doing a lot of the terraforming only to look at it 4 months later, looking like the spawn of a vanilla server(That's bad, by the way).

This is in the rules anyways, lol. You just need to report this stuff to the GM's since they don't have time to go looking for these things usually.

It says enforce, not make rules. :/ Gm's should probably cut out land-scarring whenever they see it.

Brilliant idea! But let's not forget about all the great builders in the ET - perhaps they could take part in judging whether the buildings are worthy of our map, apply some corrections, assist the builders if necessary?

What can you enforce that isn't a rule? That's exactly enforcing is...

enforce

ɪnˈfɔːs,ɛn-/
verb

  1. compel observance of or compliance with (a law, rule, or obligation).

Plus the rules have been there since day 1.
