Katherine1 362 Share Posted September 13, 2014 Sometimes I wonder if the dialect for orcs and kha is their biggest drawback. The RP for both is deep and riveting yet their playerbase have both been consistently smaller. I've always been of the opinion that language/dialects hinder bringing people to RP. They add something to RP, but at the cost of numbers. If there was a way to ease that hurdle as much as possible, you might see a bump in activity. An idea is that you could make a plugin that ties in with personas and automatically translates your spoken words into the dialect of the race on your persona. It would take some work, but it could be done. EDIT: And on the topic of people preferring independent groups to nations, yes, I think current nations are too restrictive, and what's worse is they got that way through RP. Nations are the first place new RPers go, if they're turned away, then that is bad for the server's retention rate, which is bad in general. Kicking out criminals is fine, but booting a new player because they didn't make their character quite right is simply not. This is not saying that nations should be a free for all. No. Laws need to be enforced and followed, but they shouldn't be so tight that anything even slightly outside the narrow definition of what is acceptable is immediately turned away. There is a balance between keeping things fun and friendly and enforcing the laws, and sometimes keeping it at a good balance requires more work on the part of the nation.

AGP 3169 Share Posted September 13, 2014 Agreed with the points about nations. Nations really need to be more inclusive and there should be positive benefits for people to live underneath them. I know that the people in Oren are currently working on reforming and remaking things to make it a lot more inviting for people to Rp there, so hopefully it will get better. Katherine1 362 Share Posted September 13, 2014 The short way to put it is that nations are the first thing new players see, and we should agree that we want to make a good impression.
Supremacy 3361 Share Posted September 14, 2014 If you don't like the elves of Haelun'or, you don't have to RP with them. Until you guys come up with something which is a bigger gathering of elves, all that you're doing is criticising something 60 people like while not providing any alternative. Got a problem? Give me a solution. Otherwise cease your complaining about something that does not impact you. The high elves have strict rules, it is true. But these strict rules have made the only functional elven nation to exist right now (and arguably the longest lived functional one). The nation of Haelun'or exists as it does now because the other elven groups came to us and decided to join us. i.e. They didn't have to include themselves in our RP, but they chose to. It was the choice of the other large elven groups to join us. It is your choice not to. It isn't Haelun'or's job to make a home for everyone if you won't conform to the rules of the home. Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted September 14, 2014 It's not that we don't like the elves and we don't want to chill. It's just that some of us can't unless we make a new character that follows almost every standard set by the city or we can't get RP there anyway if the smallest detail was missed. This applies to almost every racial capital there. If you're not X race, you aren't welcome in their settlement unless you make a new character. See? Roleplay is spread out as it is, and no one should have to make a new character to get roleplay. That is what makes independent settlements so convenient, if you're lucky enough to find an active one.
WuHanXianShi14 0 Share Posted September 14, 2014 and no one should have to make a new character to get roleplay. Case by case basis. A new high elf player might be turned off the server because she was told to **** off because she thought having red eyes would be cool. However if you're a known serial killer with split personalities you can't complain when people dont let you in to RP with them.
Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted September 14, 2014 What if they're just regular elves that aren't bothering anyone?
WuHanXianShi14 0 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Then there isn't a reason Haelun'or would expel you.
Sporadic 2844 Share Posted September 14, 2014 It is naturally a player's right to choose who he or she roleplays with. It's hard to make an objective set of rules saying this one guy is fine and deserves to be RP'd with and this other guy is over the top. The staff certainly wouldn't make such rules as it'd be awful to maintain, but each group of players seems to maintain such a list either way. However I encourage everyone to observe the "New player" notice above their persona card and show leniency to them; help them learn the ropes and mold them so they can fit into the kind of RP you provide. That is, after all, what it's there for.
