 Share

Recommended Posts

Recently my Character was tasked with going down south to the Caliphate. So I figured I'd actually put some effort into my reports and share them on the Forums.

To be updated periodically, Please do not metagame. these things are private correspondence from Tessa to Alicia Horen.

with that out of the way enjoy the first package of Reports. obviously the next updates will be much much smaller!

Tessa still awaits an answer to the letter she sent many months ago. She writes a new letter to Licia, informing her of the daring plan she thought of. ((Updated))

Licia finally gets off her butt and replies. It is not on fancy paper because she is lazy. The letter comes with a care package, an assortment of labelled glass bottles, two waterskins, bandages and a smaller box of dried plants packaged in paper. Included as well is a necklace made of silver chains, with a snake carved of birch attached. Included also is a copy of a party invitation. Dearest Apprentice,

Thank you for your letters. I know going out to the desert is perhaps not the best method of training, but to be frank we have few eyes in that region, and you seemed as if you wished to go anyway!

What you have uncovered thus far is surely worrying. It seems that someone or something has been using the desert's distance from civilization as a method of hiding their workings. The question is, is whatever that is responsible for all of this something old and ancient, long dead...or something new, watching and waiting?

You will have to extend my thanks to the Caliphess for providing you with more appropriate accommodations. I have included a small necklace with one of my carvings on it as a gift of sorts, if she has any interest in it. I have also gathered some medical supplies, as many as I could while I am out in the field, to be delivered to you. There are some dried herbs such as blissfoil and such, which Lady Ryder recommended, and a few pre-made salves and poultices. Try to use the latter first, as I worry how well they'll keep in the heat.

Whatever is happening in that desert is greatly concerning. Unfortunately, so to is the current matter I investigate. I do not wish to elucidate, for there is no telling who will lay hands upon this letter. But know that I have become preoccupied with a matter some of the men of Oren have stumbled into, the gravity of which I fear they do not understand.

You will see I included an invitation; I would like you to attend my cousin Alexandria's birthday ball. It is a masquerade, but I will be there and I will find you when you arrive. Then we can talk in more detail on our relative concerns. I will also be bringing Herun and we can discuss your trials for joining the Brotherhood.

You have grown up quite a bit, and I am very proud of you. But do not rush headlong into danger.

It is important to remember that while we stand as shield for the descendants, and upholders of Order, we do not endanger ourselves needlessly. There is always another option. We must always be careful not to turn the ire of the descendants towards ourselves, as well. There are things often that they do not understand; Many are the monstrosities that seek to manipulate and use the descendants to carry out their will, just as Iblees once did. And there are times when the descendants believe these things, these puppeteers, and hold their will higher than the paladins.

It is then we must approach mindfully; trim the strings upon the marionettes with care, such that the others do not raise blade against us for want of the truth that they so desperately lack.

My apprentice, I wish for you to understand this, and think on it during the ball. A masquerade proves a fitting setting for the lesson you must learn to serve Xan. All paladins wield shields, literally or otherwise; All paladins wield blades, or polearms, or some sort of weapon. We are all Xan's hands; But there are some who are specifically his eyes...his ears...We watch, always with care, not just for threats against the descendants, but for the threats within as well.

I apologize I cannot speak out of riddles; I will speak to you in person at the masquerade. I hope to see you there.

Creator guide your path and Xan watch over you,

Your friend, Licia.

Dearest Tessa,

Thank you for your letter. The drawing was beautiful too. I have never seen a city quite like this before. It is so different from Kaedrini or Raevir style architecture. I cannot wait to see it in person!

As for you and Enepay - envy is a very ugly emotion. It is not your responsibility to cater to Enepay's feelings. What he feels is his business and you cannot control his feelings. Remember that Enepay does not own you. Do you like Enepay back? If not, you ought to be honest about your feelings. It is best not to leave him in suspense. If there is niet way that you'd ever fall for him, you ought to make that clear.

Ah, I suppose I should tell you about Prince Gereon, da? He made a proposal to me not too long ago. I am still trying to decide whether or not to accept him. I know what you will say, Tessa! You will say "Of course you should marry him! He is a prince!" Sadly, it is not quite that simple. A marriage between nobles is fraught with political snares and pitfalls.

Gereon is very pleasant and mannerly. He is gentle and sweet, considerate. He is everything a prince ought to be. Yet... somehow I feel I do not know him. He seems too perfect. I cannot tell what he is like on the inside.

I am not in love with him - not yet at least. Maybe that will change in the future.

Please write again soon!

Love,
Lorina

Enepay has come to the conclusion that girls are bizzare, complicated and mysterious creatures and he now prefers to just tend to his flock. Sheep are so much simpler and understanding.

Dearest Tessa,

My goodness! You have so many young admirers, Tessa! Somewhere along the way, you turned into a very popular young lady. I am proud of you. You should enjoy being admired by men. You are a beautiful girl in the prime of your life.

But while it is nice to be admired, it is difficult to break a man's heart - especially kind and gentle men who only want to love you. Do you remember Jean from the horse barn in Owynswood? He used to be madly in love with me. He begged to remain at my side forever. He did not even care if I married someone else. But I had niet choice but to turn him down. I could not keep him enslaved to his feelings. Peter Horen too. He adores me, but I had to reject him for the good of us both. Both of them were kind, sweet men and I pray they find their true love someday. It hurt me to break their hearts. But in the end, it was necessary.

Tessa, do not be lead astray. You know what you want. It hurts to break someone's heart, but they will heal. You cannot be responsible for anyone's feelings except your own. Do not let guilt hold you back from doing what you need to do. Learn to reject men without sorrow. These men are good men. They deserve wives who jump at the prospect of marriage to them. They do not want a wife who is always thinking of leaving. Who always hears the words "what if" in her ear.

Be brave, Tessa. Always make your wants and feelings clear. Say what you mean. Never leave room for someone to misunderstand you. And if you do that, you cannot feel guilty for anything you have done.

Love, Lorina

A tan halfling spy begins to try and intercept these clear letters of treason before they leave the walls of the caliph's palace! His slingshot has so far been unsuccessful... He frowns :(
