When lockpicking chests for items existed, what did you like about it? What did you not like?

What do you like about the current system? Would you like to see it changed? If you would like it to remain the same, why?

We are currently discussing the idea of bringing back lock-picking chests for RP items only. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Please keep it civil.

Make it so that the person being stolen from has to be online. That way the thief actually has to wait for him to walk away from his home...and bare the risk of him returning, being caught, etc.

Waiting till someone is offline to steal **** is basically metagaming.

it's fine okay, if it was changed it would becoming super common but the thing is is it's just not supposed to be.

Have there be an app for lockpicking, or a teacher system, maybe both?

Edit: As well, not too sure what you mean by RP items, like enchanted armor given by an Ascended or something could count as an RP item.

Just RP items is fine. Prevents them from rotting in a chest and being generally useless and promotes them changing hands like they're supposed to.

All other resources no.

What is classified as an "RP" Items? I also like the App idea with a Teaching system.

Guess I'll just have to store all my stuff in my /echest if you're thinking of bringing this back.

I vote that we bring the old system back, with the edition that if the player has been active in the last three weeks, they must be online for you to pick their locks.

Arbitrating what items can be taken won't help the issue. Hell, I'd rather have diamonds and **** stolen than RP items.

There is a configuration of LWC that when activated only locks peoples chests when the player is offline, just throwing that out there.

Personally I think a 'lockpick' item should be craftable thru some profession that people would need in order to lockpick into chests.

I like that idea.. Crafting a lockpick first... Otherwise, why did we all donate? o.o

And this is when everyone moves their chests into their basements behind iron doors so people can't get into it anyways.

It honestly doesn't make much sense to have lockpicking, because we donated in order to prevent from getting stolen from.

Unless lockpicking is going to be a donator's option only as well.

So many problems with lockpicking. Someone works or grinds all day for certain materials or does a long event line and gets an item for it and next thing someone can steal it. That would lead to a lot of arguing and crying. Also people lock their chests for a reason and those that don't get stuff stolen, one of the main reasons why people donate useless.

As someone who had a va for lock picking, the old system had some major flaws not the least of which was time it took out of Gms/admins doing their other jobs. And people waiting till someone was offline, and people putting their chests behind 10 doors.

I do agree though that RP items, such as artifacts, relics or such should be pretty much the only target of lock picking and that  letting people lockpick while someone is offline is usually a bad idea, though less so when the target is in a well populated area like a major city. The idea of making it so after three weeks the requirement goes away is also pretty good. As for lockpicks, that should be a given as even when VAs were around folks were asked to use iron bars to represent them. If this could all be scripted that would be even better...its silly when you wait an hour for a modreq on a lockpick only to have to run because someone was walking near you after all that time ((had this happen to me more then a few times during break ins when in a major city, no ones fault, but its a huge flaw in the system if we intend to stack it in the chest owner's favor)

But, this cant be one sided. Multiple doors or sets of doors should be able to be ignored after say 2-3, with the first 2-3 being able to be picked and the rest simply opened or something along those lines via gm or script.

Though in the end this is wont matter too much as people will break rp  and metagame the fact lock picking was re introduced by hiding their stuff in chests in the ground...Its a pity we can't force people to at least make it like a redstone piston hiding spot...the idea people tear up their floor boards to get at a chest that has most of their basic items or even semi valuable and then put them back spotless looking untouched is silly.. I mean back in 3.0 I used to have to tear up entire floors when searching houses in the wilds because someone who had been gone from the server for months decided to hide every chest they had under the floor back when they were playing. Its silly..

As an ender vip I still support this as long as its done with the intent to provide roleplay and a way to get items that are often left collecting dust circulating. Would love to see a black market of stolen rp items pop up in some city..
