It had been a while since she'd been outside, but today Rajiya felt well enough to walk about the city. On her stroll, she spotted Malik Kharadeen leaving the palace in a hurry, wiping his eyes. She frowned. They had their own little past, but she still felt bad for him. He had suffered much in his life, and had little consolation from it. Deciding she would make sure he was okay, she followed him.

They left the city. Raj thought that Malik was only heading to his home right outside the gate, but instead he crossed the river and trudged into the distant woods. The young woman's lips pursed, and she followed him over hills and through the forest for a while until they came to a wide open field, the tall grass waving in the wind. In the field stood a lone figure.

She stayed on the edge of the forest, hidden in the shade of the trees. The wind carried portions of their conversation towards her: "Fight.... dishonorable scum... give up...!" Her eyes widened as she heard the clash of swords. She squinted her eyes to see whom Malik was fighting.

It was Adil.

She couldn't believe it. It had been at least two years since she'd seen him. After the war started, she had only seen him once at home. The man she once called her lover was fighting her emir, and a former friend. Her heart skipped a beat as she watched hit after hit - a slash at a leg, another at an arm, a stab to the stomach, several punches...

All at once, Adil brought down his sword and cut Malik's arm clean off. He was brought to his feet, and as Adil realized what he'd done, he told him, "It didn't have to end like this, Malik. You could have joined me..-" Suddenly, Malik lunged forward and clamped onto Adil's nose with his teeth, and with a scream it was torn clean off his face. With a gasp, Rajiya stumbled from her hiding place in the forest, moving through the grass with tears in her eyes. The men looked at each other, thought not with the hate she thought would be there. Regret was in their eyes, but it was too late now. Rajiya screamed, "No, Adil!"

With a final cry, Adil drove his scimitar into Malik Kharadeen's chest. He stared at he who was once his brother in arms, and he fell back into the grass with a dull thud. He was dead.

Rajiya let out a scream and stopped in her tracks, not ten feet away from them. She met Adil's gaze only once before turning and running for the city.

Today, on the 17th of the Amber Cold, 1543,

Malik Kharadeen, Sultan of the Caliphate of Khalestine,

died in honorable combat.

May Allah watch over you, Rafiqi, and give you rest.

"Daddy..." he sighs, wiping his eyes as he lets out the loudest scream almost the whole city could hear.'

"This is the end.. Qalasheen society is going to be over. Albaqi fi qateat, baaban, wasawf 'ahabbuk dayimaan watadkhar li." he cries.

Gar dips his head quietly, somewhat dismayed by the news. "A shame," he utters simply, eyes clouding over with angst. "He was a comrade, after all. . ."

Malik's long winded suffering was now over. His grieving and his sadness now wiped from the face of the planet. A breath of fresh air would seem to roll over the city of Al-Wakhrah, Malik's wishes of piece soaring through the streets. Malik's loss was hopefully a meaningful one, even important people do pass on. Instead of plunging his scimitar into the enemies of the great Caliphate, he now stands alongside Allah, the first of his family to make it to the sanctuary in the sky. For now, he watches over his brothers, sister, father, mother, and all of the young ones of the Kharadeen family. His eyes would land on a notable figure from the sky, his love, his habibi, Saharfajhari. Even though betrayal hurts, the love in his heart remains for all that have ever been there, including those men who fight in rebellion against his family. Long live Kharadeen and hope that one day the wonderful family may find peace within itself. "Ma'a salaama, rafiqis, hopefully one day you'll walk alongside Allah with me."

Having been looking for Adil during the time of the duel he knew nothing of, the news gave Nafis an unsettling feeling.

"I was hoping people would have forgotten you during this war." He mumbles to himself.

He knew Malik wasn't perfect, but he wouldn't have changed a thing about 'The Iron Shiek'. Nafis thought back to the times in Hallowvale when the others would gang up on Malik in the wrestling ring and how Nafis finally intervened to help Malik win a match so he could be oathed.

"Rest easy in the Seven Skies, rafiqi."

Spoiler

"Adil, you were once my brother, now you have turned into an enemy of the state? I challenge you to a duel of honor. You versus I, only one man walks away and he will walk away." -Sultan Malik Kharadeen, letter addressed to Adil prior to the Honor Duel, 13th of the Ambercold.

Only one man did certainly walk away the 17th of the Ambercold, 1543. With a branch as a crutch, the Qalasheen man known as Adil limped through the forest north of Al Wakrah. He hummed quietly to himself, walking a long path back to Ard Ghorrock alone, drinking his own canteen of Candilan de Denesle wine.

Adil didn't want to do it. Malik was once like a brother to him even through numerous times of strife, they stuck together. He knew when they met each other on the field, he needed to do it. For Decimus, for Nafis, for Hallowvale. The former Champion of Hallowvale took Malik's challenge, and walked away the better man.

"Malik, I know you look down upon me now from the Seven Skies, know what I did was out of justice. Justice for the Qalasheen people, for the Vanders betrayed by this 'Vanderguan'. The rest of this ride is for you, Brother. I won't disappoint. Know the White Riders of Hallowvale well, Kharadeens. The Winter of Khalestine will be over soon, and a Qali Spring to shower over it."

As Faiz Kharadeen sat there, overhearing the news of what had happened to his beloved son, Malik, he could not but forcibly excuse himself out of the room in utter disbelief...

He kept his gaze low as he wandered the hallways, his mind boggled as he found himself in a daze. Was he under the influence of a drug? No.. His heart was also heavy, as his gut was twisted so severely he thought the pain would have caused him to collapse.

"My Malik?. . Dead?.. " he could not believe it, he didn't want to believe it.

Before he knew what he was doing, he found himself knocking on the doors of the bedroom that once belonged to Malik. He looked towards the double doors before he collapsed upon his knees, his forehead pressed against the door as an overwhelming amount of tears pour down his cheek. The old man was now sobbing unconditionally, his own child that he loved and raised was now gone... How could this have happened? Why did it happen?

As Faiz kept on thinking on it, he found himself to fall into a state of depression. To lose his own child was something he'd never thought would ever happen to him, never in his life... Faiz had found himself weeping and weeping until his eyes dried up, preventing him from shedding anymore tears.

His mind started to go blank as memories of Malik's childhood began to swim within his mind. The first thing that came to mind was the day he and his sister, Ceto, were born as twins. He remembers the days within the Fringe, where he would take Malik and Arlen to buy pie and cake within Kaldonia... The days he taught Malik, Arlen, and Ceto how to wield a blade and bow... The funny times when Arlen and Malik would play pranks around the household... The days where he fought alongside his children to fend off against the horde of Iblees and the blood mages of Aesterwald.. The smile upon Malik's face as he interacted with people he could call his own... The love within Malik's eyes had when he wedded Sahar... The happiness that overfilled Malik the time Faiz told him how proud he was of him... So many memories with Malik, was it all now coming to an end?

Faiz decided to trek into the mosque in his deeply sadden stage and pray. It is said he never left the mosque for an entire month, praying every day and hour he could before passing out through loss of energy.

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'oon... Rest in peace my son, know that I love you very much and am very proud of the man you had become... In time, we will meet again within the seven skies, Allah willing..."

A new portrait of Malik would find its spot within the palace after sometime, titled "Malik Kharadeen Al-Musharraf[The honorable]".
