Esterlen's LT application

Minecraft Account Name(s):

rickynixon63

Skype:

Tsuyose has it, but I'll give it to anybody who wants it in private.

How long have you played on LotC?:

Since September 2011, so upwards of five years now.

Time zone and availability:

Australian Eastern Standard time. My availability is dodgy at the time of this application but will be vastly and permanently increased as of November the 16th, when my exams will be totally finished and I'll have a fair bit of free time on my hands.

What subgenre (refer to LM specifications list) are you versed in most?:

Human lore, without a doubt, is my area of overwhelming expertise, as well as the primary focus of my activities. I also had a significant contribution to high elven lore back in early 2012 when it was first being formed, though it has definitely evolved considerably since I left that community. I'm well-informed about general lore as well, and I have a decent knowledge of voidal magic (Though I've never actually RPed a mage, because I find it very boring).

Give a summary of any staff positions you have held on LoTC:

I've never held a staff position, unless you count my recent stint on the WT.

Have you ever written lore for LoTC? (this will not augment your chances at obtaining the position of LM.):

Yes. I wrote the striga/vampire lore a few months past, I contributed to a large extent to Aeldin lore (Which is considered canon, apparently) and have written almost innumerable histories and origin stories for various Orenian houses (Carrion, Ashford, Chivay, de Sola, de Sarkozy) as well as lore and flavour for the Church of the Canon. I very much enjoy writing cultural lore in the capacity of a world-builder. If you count it as 'lore', I document as much as I can that occurs in Oren's history on the LotC Wiki. Like I mentioned before, I had an integral role in forming original high elven lore back in early 2012 with Dio_Astore, Arche and others, however the high elves have likely evolved so much since then that my contribution is irrelevant.

Have you ever received a blacklist or ban?:

I was banned in June 2013 for some antics regarding posting Nazi figures on the forums. I was also banned in June 2015 for tricking a GM to TP me to my old mate Leric Tresery. I've never been blacklisted from anything, to my understanding.

Who do you not get along with on the Lore Team?:

I don't know if he's even still on the LT, but if he is, Jistuma. I think his lack of basic literacy, seeming incapability of coming up with new and contributory ideas (Mud maidens? Really?) as well as his exhibition of a factor I like to call lore conservatism or lore inertia (Where a LT member is completely close-minded to any new ideas and changes except their own) gives him a greatly diminished credibility as a team member.

While I believe Pyro to be competent he is also now a GM, and the LT is certainly in need of a dedicated human staff team member. As my mantra goes both before and after I got onto the LT: Our main purpose as a team should be to be the facilitators for major playerbases to turn their creations/culture into canon lore. So a +1 from me

This man is a fantastic writer, a creative gentleman and reliable above all else. His work within lore's past was essential for Human rp to grow the way it did via its traditions and, well, moral backstory.

It is rather late and I do not believe I can properly produce a coherent argument for this man without getting sidetracked or digressing, so I simply say he's better than most people.

I often go to Maly when I have a question about lore since I have difficulty understanding Mogroka at times. He's a good hombre and I think he would be a great addition to the LT, especially since he has never had a staff position before but has a lot of experience with lore. We need different folks to contribute to our mine man role play community if we wish to see progress in the right direction.

"Can you imagine what Esterlen would have been like if somebody would have loved him?" - Paul Saraliev

Caught between parental bookends with contrasting methods for player rearing—both brutal, both cold and uncharitable—it's little wonder that the lemon grove middle child of the White Rose would have carefully fashioned veneers of guarded reticence to adorn the walls he threw up. Yet it is a kind of miracle that a man so deliberately introverted could attain so much in a realm where the aspirations and activities of governance necessitate the very attributes Esterlen undoubtably lacked. He was an introvert in a world of extroverts. He was a friend to all and intimate with none.

We lie best when we lie to ourselves, and even long before his climb into the Orenian throne, it must have been exhausting, ceaselessly straining to listen for the whispers in Skype and subtext within the articles in the forums about him. Doubtless this desire to protect himself from the possibility of others casting aspersions on him played a large part in his unprecedented degree of paranoia.

Yet, it is such a rare and wonderful thing to find a man who is both good and great at the same time, and this applies to our fantasy emperors as well. Esterlen was a great politician (perhaps too good), and there can be little doubt that he wanted the best for his country and server. He deserves this office that he seeks without question and has demonstrated his capabilities to an innumerable degree. +1

Father Maly is a well-born man with good family values. He writes much better than anyone I've ever met or known in this short span of life. Commonly refered to as one of the most conpetent beings by his loyal peers. An easy choice for the position, as he will excell in such a team. +1

I really enjoy his works on the wiki! He is very knowledgeable, and its great that he's so serious about getting the facts straight. I'm sure the lore team could use a sense of strictness and realism.

I won't deny he's knowledgeable based on all I've seen. But I've also seen a pretty terrible attitude in the past about certain things, and I don't think I'd want that kind of person on the team. That's all I really have to say on the matter.
