Roleplay is [SCRIPTED] and nothing good will ever come from that.

This is a fact, not a rant. Every roleplay that we do is planned, and we know the result. Even if we are to meet someone, we know what will come out from it. I mean, from my point of view, roleplay simply, sort of, ceased to exist. Why? Here's why.

  • We roleplay only with one-another, that one friend from skype, yeah, your favourite LotC friend. And a small circle-jerk around it. Good example? All magic groups, and, want it or not, the druids too. Even if it has that one welcoming characteristic, it's still some sort of circle-jerk. This could but doesn't needs to stop, believe me.
  • Roleplay meet-ups are always, sort of, planned by events. Only if there's X event, there'll be Y thing.
  • Banditing is dead. People want so badly their pixels that unless you have a 2nd meta-squad, you can't even bandit people on the roads.
  • Metagaming is way too strong and no one ever bothers to solve it. An example would be "transfering skype information to roleplay information". This is really gross. "Hey, an orc killed me yesterday." - "Tell me in roleplay so we can warclaim the orcs"
  • "To win" mindset on a roleplay game

Also, I've learnt this definition on a tabletop RPG. A different meaning for PG, but it can very well also apply here, on the server.

"To power-game is to build your character completely centered around the ultimate pinnacle of power and get stronger than everyone else."

Power-gaming, you play to get power, and at a point, you get so strong that your party can't follow-up your mythical strenght.

Another thing that disgusts me heavily regarding the server, threats made on OOC about one's character and land. It's not that they are empty, but this is insanely bad and kills the surprise element of everything.

My point, in the end is: "Roleplay is planned; scripted, and there's never something new because it lacks the surprise element"

We can change this whole thing, but it doesn't starts on a player. This would have to be a massive change which would make the server much more interesting as you would see something new every step you take instead of knowing what's all along the path.

I've been attacking people around Oren, Urguan and the Mali'ame with my ghoul persona. Its not banditing, but still is a villain rp that should be noted. One day I'll get to the orcs, don't you worry, papi.

I'll highly disagree with this, it might be just because of how I roleplay (I seek to create interresting stories, not winning) or the fact that I seek out new players to help them out as they start (new players are always interresting. Even if they have one directonal characters. Their lack of knowledge will make stuff happen.) Things are planned when you bring up cliche situations. The wonder of lotc is the fact that we have up to 200 people doing their own thing all at the same time. Its a giant system that honestly manages to amaze me. If you believe rp is too planned. Make a new character, shove a few dozen interresting flaws and then go make it unpredictable. You don't need to be a bandit to create conflict, neither do you need an et to help you make something happen. Be ready to lose, because lossing is fun.

Rp is predictable if you make it predictable.

That's mostly true, but there are alot of people on this server that constantly seek out unique rp and get out of their little warm spot for more adventurous rp.

I'm not gonna agree or disagree with you, since you've said good points but I'm not 100% on board with the conclusion. I'm really only commenting because I'm happy someone else here knows the original definition of "powergaming". The actions on LotC we call powergaming is referred to as "godmodding" in nearly every RP circle I played in before starting MineCraft RP.

There's been a couple of suggestion threads recently that appear to be desiring to move LotC into the realm of Factions Server. If you want to play factions then do it. This place is and always will be roleplay. The reason the roleplay around you sucks is because it is combat based and that gets very old very fast.

Stopped reading at the second line there because already doesn't apply to me. The only roleplay I really plan is if I ask someone oocly if they got time to do a lesson or someone says they're bored and I offer to rp with them. Otherwise my time on lotc is spent logging on, looking around where I'm at to see who's about or what's going on, wandering to another town if things are boring, repeating either until something pops up or I decide to play something else.

but the closest you've gotten to the druids is attacking us how do you know what it's like on the inside

Wait a minute I seem to recall one time you guys came to attack us and we ended up sitting down, smoking and talking about our issues with eachother. What are you talking about with this "there's no unpredictability" stuff?

And yeah, there's a bit of circle-jerking going on, but that's because you're talking about a guild, a group of individuals with the same goal who work in an organized effort to reach it. It's not something that strangers can't enter, and it's not something that you can't leave. It's a product of roleplay leading to a big ol' organized circlejerk. Not the other way around,  a big circlejerk leading to RP.

Some other points you brought up I simply can't refute because I don't really know what you're talking about- Unless that itself is seen as an attempt to refute. Some others I agree with, to an extent.

seriously though, man what kind of clique are you into that everything seems premeditated man I mean I've seen the stuff you're talking about go on in places like certain noble families and stuff but dang dude to apply that to the entire server what

While a specific situation in RP may be planned, the things that happen within that situation are not. It's all completely dependent on the course of events that occur throughout the actions that transpire between characters. The result of every RP is completely unpredictable if done correctly. In my opinion it doesn't matter whether or not people are friends OOCly, but it definitely is more interesting to have your character go seek out new settings when RP seems to become repetitive.

Let's keep War claiming the Orcs so we can make them nomads like in the past :)
