As someone who was a void mage looooong before becoming an Ascended this is not true whatsoever. I'll also note that holy orders can actually maintain a functional guild for more than two months.

But no seriously, times have changed, void magic isn't as broken as it used to be and who was talking about guilds? Guilds don't have anything to do with how properly the magic is RP'd, it's just a group of magi, nobody is threatening to remove your guild through making everything neutral.

 

It's supposed to be beneficial for all.

This is no different than saying "Want to fix war salt interaction? Eliminate wars". Anything confrontational will be controversial but confrontation is the life blood of plots. Besides, if you have a magic meant to counter something, it's going to be confrontational. I guess you're saying to change the countering. However, I think that would neuter holy organizations.

you've two forces inherently at opposites ends w/ one another & w/ how lotc's gone for the past 5 years factions evidently cannot comprehend positivity to their opposition. it's p much natural even in irl circumstances; in the event of this scenario, it's who can complain about who has what. holy folk will complain about how op dark magic is and vice versa.
