August Monthly Update Log



New Player Data

As usual, Humans were the largest division between the races and made up slightly over half of the accepted applicants. Elves came in second again, their numbers being slight over 1/4 of the entire chart. The amount of new Dwarves were the third largest group again, and doubled from last month. Orcs were not very abundant, but they had more new players than Halflings and Khas combined. Unlike July, we did gain a single new Kharajyr. Woo.

Subraces were interesting to see this time around, as we are now actively recording Snow Elves. Starting with Dwarves, about 3/4 of their new population have chosen to be Mountain Dwarves. The remainder decided on no specific subrace. Elves were quite evenly distributed-- there were 8 accepted Wood Elves, 8 accepted Dark Elves, 7 accepted High Elves, and 7 accepted Snow Elves in the month of August! 3 of the Elven applicants did not specify a subrace. The majority of accepted Human applicants picked the Heartlander category. The amount of Highlanders were equal to those who didn't specify a subrace. There was a small new Farfolk population as well. The great majority of Orcs didn't pick a subrace. There was 1 Olog, and 1 Goblin.

Our acceptance rates have been very high, with over 80% of applicants being accepted onto LoTC! With a total of 164 applications (with a small amount of these being alt apps), exactly half of those were immediately accepted and whitelisted. Another 30% of wandering souls were placed on pending before eventually being accepted with help from our team members. Unfortunately ~20% of applications were inevitably denied, with about half of those being placed on pending before denial. This is a lesser percentage than the previous month. When we do automatically deny someone, it's typically due to broken rules such as plagiarism or wrong application format. I will soon be looking into ways we can alter our reviewing process so that more people get a chance at acceptance more often. One idea I've been considering is removing automatic denials completely for any reason other than being an alt of a banned player. This is something I'm going to discuss with my team members soon.

As usual, lots of Americans/Canadians- almost 3/4 of the entire amount. Europeans made up roughly 1/4 of the accepted new player time zones, and there were exactly five new people in the Oceania time zone.

Member Additions and Resignations/Removals

I am not going to write a special thing for each new member this time around because I'm too lazy to do that each month, but know that I love and appreciate you all. Everyone chosen to join the team has truly stood out during their initial interviews. We also recently said goodbye to a long time member and manager of the team, @Cooliomafia. This is the person that personally trained me when I was a new member on the team, and I wanted to take a moment to thank him for all he's done. Taking his place is our newest Application Team Manager, @LordCommander.

Team Data

Commencing immediately, we've decided to keep the team on the smaller side, at 9 members. This also means there will be an increase in quota throughout September and onward. The August quota remained at 5% for members and 2.5% for managers, though it should have been higher due to the team being small as well as us losing members in the middle of the month. Nonetheless, the majority of our remaining members did a great job at keeping up. As you might note, I personally reviewed 12% of the applications. I only take applications that are sitting for over 10 hours at a time, which was the case here unfortunately. I make it a top priority to not keep new players waiting too long.

Members that joined within the month were not required to hit quota. Our overall biggest contributor was @Pieman, our very own application machine. Throughout the month he reviewed a total of 50 apps! MrMineLoveDude, Allieice, and LordCommander also far exceeded quota. Keep up the great work guys. Two of our current members just fell behind their quota, and will be spoken to individually about their activity on the team and how it can be improved. The rest of the people of those who fell behind the dashed line are members who left within the month. Overall, I'm very proud of my team. With our new members, I'm optimistic that application wait time will improve greatly.

Team Projects

 

• The New Players Discord has become active once again, thriving with helpers and dedicated AT members alike.
   
• I've recently updated the LoTC Skin Archive with 93 new publicly available MC skins for the use of new players. All thanks to the Tailor's Guild members!
   
• Tutorial Island has finally been released! A long while ago the concept of this project was created by LegoXBOX, taken over by the GM team, built by Ang, and then finished by Harold and Kowaman some time later. I assisted a tiny amount with approving of the little details and helping out with the finishing touches to the project.
   
• Planning on making more Your Views (there's going to be one up soon regarding Tutorial Island), as well as updated guides for new players.
   
• I've commenced in the revival of the settlement guide project. Will need the communities help with this one! Check out the hyperlink on my signature if you'd like to find out more.
   
• Will be continuing in the gathering of player retention data.
   
• With the addition of forum clubs, I'm going to be creating one for new players.
  
  I'm going to be adding the player retention report for the month of July on a separate thread, since it made the last monthly update log too cluttered. So stay tuned for that. Hope this information was useful, have a wonderful September everyone.

Glad to do my part in helping, however, I firmly believe that @Pieman is not a mortal man, but a programmed machine to run through applications. No evidence has been given to go against said claims, and all the evidence and science only proves the mechanical nature.

 

We must shut down the machine before it replaces us all.
