LT Update Log - August/part of September

6.0/World Lore

Spoiler

For 6.0 (after discussion amongst the team), I am taking a slightly different approach than what we have done with previous maps. We will be writing lore for the map, but on top of that I am aiming for the team to include new pieces of world lore (e.g. new metals) that is aimed at different playerbases, along with including areas for existing world lore so we can open up niche pieces of lore to more folks rather than let it be hoarded by 1-2 people. Overall this is part of a project that I am starting to make world lore more diverse and inclusive, so we can have more things for people to interact with.

The Techlock

Spoiler

Bear in mind that the techlock is not strictly an LT thing. This is something that has been on the server for many years, the thing that ensures that our setting is medieval fantasy. With that said, I know a lot of people have differing opinions on the matter, so I will be making a your view on the techlock later this weekend so we can collect those opinions. My two cents on the matter is that we shouldn’t be working towards modern tech, but instead should be working towards crafting our own unique technology that is thoroughly LotC’ified. I’m looking forward to what you folks think on the matter.

Guides and Magic Updates

Spoiler

Last month I said we’d be working on guides and missing lore! Missing lore is going to be posted throughout this week (I believe some have already been posted). Guides will be coming out in the next few weeks. In addition to this, a rough draft of the non-mage’s guide to magic, covering things like common signs of powergaming, will be posted in a week or so. This will be passed around to non-magic users and magic users alike to gather opinions on what needs to be added and things of that nature. Similarly, we have gathered feedback for voidal magic and are discussing it amongst the team. Once this is finished, someone will be posting a lore submission covering this.

I want to address some concerns that have been raised regarding this project:

- We are not going to randomly be axing active magics, my goal here is to ensure that our existing magics are balanced and that any future ones meet the requirements that the team will be discussing.

- This is going to be aimed across the board, so every section of magic will be looked at. Next on the list is dark/holy.

- The reason for all the feedback threads is that magic is a big part of the server and I can't just rely on talking to the playerbase who uses whatever magic we're looking at. Not everyone will admit that their magic is unbalanced, so feedback from outsiders is necessary.

After some deliberation amongst the team, we have decided that people will have the capability to have a t5 mastery of all their slots across the board unless stated otherwise in the specific magics they are learning (e.g. demi-ascended would still have the restrictions as that is part of their lore). This is mostly due to the fact that it is rather difficult to moderate who has their tiers in what (e.g. unless we establish a lot stricter rules which will hinder people across the board, I won't be able to tell if Bob wants to have his t5 slots to be dedicated to x y or z and he can say it's x y z or change it up whenever without being able to be properly monitored).

Wiki Update

Spoiler

A handful of folks from the team will be working with the wiki team to ensure that the lore on the wiki is both fully updated, along with trying to beautify these pages for easier reading (the original lore pieces will be in a spoiler at the bottom, to ensure that the wiki’ified version isn’t the only one there in case something seems amiss and that the page isn't clustered with information [hence the spoiler]). We understand that newer players use the wiki a lot, so it’s detrimental to have that medium lacking in information, so hopefully once we get things up to date, it’ll be an even better resource for players. This project will begin soon, once Destinator and I have finalized the details.

Alchemy

Spoiler

Dunstan will be taking up the lead at looking at alchemy, working with a few other members of the team. They will be reaching out to the alchemy playerbase for opinions and feedback on their project in due time. The main goal here is to ensure that everything is documented and questions such as "does x need to be applied like an ointment or consumed like a drink" to be addressed. If you wish to give your feedback on the matter, please direct it to him. https://www.lordofthecraft.net/profile/73650-dunstan/ This is his profile since the @ function seems to be messing up.

Recent Removals

Spoiler

I will admit that the initial removals were handled poorly. After discussion with the administration on the matter, it has been decided that two of the removals I made were done prematurely when a warning could have been made in lieu of removal. As such, I apologize to Phil and Will, who have accepted their positions back onto the team with the aforementioned warnings.

If you want to sit down and discuss anything that I have talked about here, feel free to add me on discord (Flamboyant#8856).

Edited the wording on a few things to make it clearer.

Breath of fresh air to see staff admitting their mistakes. With as much crap that's been thrown at you, kudos on you for still trying to do the best for LT. Got my support

As in, everyone can use this unique tech and not our special circle of mages.

Yes, ideally (I would go as far to say that different playerbases could develop their own thing, e.g. dwarven tech versus orc tech). However, that's just my opinion.

caleb you forgot to write that dunstan and i are the new best managers

Caleb promoted managers that both have names starting with D.

If you put the names together you get...

Double D

Now as some of our viewers may already know this is a reference too something lewd.

Now if we weigh that against the fact that the lore team has members in it that arn't male.

I wouldn't call it a buff since a large number of people already RP'd there being no cap, nor do I really blame them as we don't have a way to moderate the tiers. I mean, we could get everyone to tell us what magics they have and what tiers they are at, which at first seems simple, right? But then that's only us knowing, so they could run around IRP saying whatever and unless reported (and who would report them if they are RP'ing it seemingly appropriately), we wouldn't catch on. We would have to force people to put their tiers and stuff in their persona card, which is a hassle in and of itself, along with drawing up issues with metagaming and things like that.
