A thorn in our sides.

Recommended Posts

Flyers are hung about Atlas, publicising an unpleasant pair of lists:
"Know this, various cultists and zealots of Xan, Aeriel, Tahariae, the Aspects, the Spirits et cetera: we are foes. Those loyal to the ways of Umbrage will never share in your tenants nor stand at your sides in battle, nor do we expect or anticipate such treatment from yourselves, but we've a common enemy. For too long have the Frost Witches practised their stolen arts beneath their innumerable disguises within their foreboding fjords beneath their malevolent Banshee Queen: Lux. For too long have the Shades of Iblees - their very souls twisted by the Betrayer's dark magics - spread chaos and untamed havoc upon the living and unliving with intrigue and Machiavellian acts. And so, through much deliberation I have concluded what must be done. The efforts of the Synod and its allies will not suffice in the Thaw, nor in the Cleansing that must be brought to these wretched beings; we implore those with the common goal of ridding this world of the untamed filth to heed what follows:

The Thaw of the Frost Witches:

Spoiler

Known Frost Witch Abilities:

The freezing of water to form ice.

Manipulation of ice to a greater extent than even the most powerful Shamans beneath Akathro.

Disguise - their true forms tainted blue with white hair, glowing blue eyes and sharp teeth - a Frost Witch might assume any form woman (or speculated feminine man) within the limits of her general size and mass.

Cannibalism. This acts as less of an ‘ability’ than a dependency, Witches require the flesh of the male sex to survive. Those who sympathise with the dire wolves would try to tell you they subsist on flesh preserved from great battles, though be fooled not! They explicitly require ripe flesh, the still beating heart of a man granting them youth, permitting an eternal lifespan for the once-daughters of Horen in their ranks.

Resistance to the cold. The Witches are unphazed by freezing temperatures as permitted by their frostborn boons. Frost Witches are usually clad in skimpy attire of a whorish nature for this suspected reason. This has also rendered them especially weak to heat, the application of such in extreme cases undoing a Witch’s magics (including their disguises, experimentation on captives proving such). It is recommended women suspect of Witchcraft be non-lethally branded to expose their true selves.

Frost ‘Mothers’ act as recruiters who may spread the curse. Only those who have ascended to such a rank are able to do so, according to our informants.

Known Frost Witches:

It is acknowledged by the Synod that the root of the Frost-Witch problem is spawned from the ‘Heddwyn Coven’ headed by the Banshee Queen Lux, though we’ve been unable to distinguish between most members and rogues. Its base of operations has been proven by the Synod to be a Bakery in Fenn, the Princedom are suspect to be aware of this and even potentially responsible for feeding the gluttonous whores in exchange for dark artefacts (though the latter theory has yet to be proven).

Lux, Frost Mother. Zinnina, Aster, and Celandine are the personas of this Witch. Zinnia is a white hair mali'aheral who wears red and grey robes. Aster in similar fashion, and Celandine is purpled haired - shouldn't be too hard to find that one.

Svette, common Witch. Athri and Ysmay are the personas of this Witch. Both are mali'aheral women with grey hair and blue eyes.

Ituri, Frost Mother. Charolette is a common disguise, also a red haired dark elf whos name is unknown.

Sif, Frost Mother. Often seen wearing armor made entirely of ice. She also goes by the name Taliyu at some times when in Haelun'or.

Aki, common Witch. A young easterner girl seen around the witches, who is a witch herself. I am unsure of her disguises and where she can be found now a days - most likely attached to Lux.

Ciana is a frost witch who is often seen as a pale blonde hair elf with blue eyes. She also is consistently referred to as Ciana in almost all of her disguises.

Vivian is most often seen around the Serene family. She holds ties to Ethel Rose and Quillian Serene. She is often seen in blonde disguises and wood elf disguises, that is about all I know about her.

Raenah, common Witch. can also be found disguising as an Izalith. She is the first daughter of Lux. Unseen for much time.

Laethesia, common Witch. is a ginger wood elven female who usually wears an eyepatch and other pirately attire. She has also been seen as a Dark Elven female with one empty eye socket. Known to be found with her lover, a man named Sigismund who usually wears a mask to hide his burnt face.

The Cleansing of the Shades:

Spoiler

Known Shade Abilities:

The conjuring and manipulation of a dark matter named ‘Amber’. This is the root of most - if not all - of their powers. The demon within the Shade is responsible for creating this material from corrupted mana, presumably able to manipulate it with even more expertise than the host. More experienced Shades may always have this resource to hand, marking them quite unpredictable in their attacks. Amber has been seen to form weapons and shields from the Shade’s body in most cases.

Incapacitated Shades can regain consciousness (often in the form of their parasite) faster than most as a defense mechanism. One should avoid being off-guard around Shade prisoners, therefore.

Minor healing of the self and others, described as sharing similar extents as a ‘bandage’ of amber, able to stop a Shade’s bleeding in most cases and prolong the touch of death on injuries a pure man might find fatal. It is presumed this may be done to greater extents by more powerful Shades.

Their abilities seem amplified by low levels of light, empowered at night time especially.

Descending into monstrous ‘Daeva’. A feat not attainable by all Shades, these beings forged entirely of Amber serve as leaders to the possessed. Whilst most Shades have mortal bodies made from flesh and bone - sharing in most mortal weaknesses, therefore - the Daeva are nigh unkillable, fatally afflicted only by the arts of ‘holy’ cultists and aurum.

The creation of further Shades is a feat any of the Iblees-spawn might achieve (a Daeva’s involvement unnecessary).

Known Shades:

It is acknowledged by the Synod that we've heard no name for any sort of Shade 'coven', though what we know of Daeva implies them to heed the overarching structure these daemons abide by. It is therefore assumed that they either all act of their own chaotic accord with a loose respect for the Daeva or act on the malefic behalf of the Daeva in unison. We have no knowledge on their supposed base of operations.

Thalon, Daeva. His form usually resembles that of a Dark Elven male. In this form he has pale purple eyes and black hair, the sides of which are usually shaved.

Lorien, Daeva. His form usually resembles that of a High Elven male. In this form he has green eyes and black hair. This Daeva has since supposedly ‘fused’ with the High Elven male Alliard Izalith. This new guise presents white/silver hair and pale eyes (as expected of the Izalith line) though recent intelligence suggests his eyes to have alternated to bright blue.

‘John’, Daeva. His form has been known as a Human male. In this form he has green eyes and ginger hair. Little information is known about his true identity.

Rilath Izalith, common Shade. His form usually resembles that of a High Elven male. In this form he has pale grey eyes and silver hair. Often seen wearing a ridiculous kilt.

Erendriel, common Shade. His form usually resembles that of a High Elven male. In this form he has pale grey eyes and silver hair (features akin to the Izalith line of Haelun’or). He also uses the name Hemnel from time to time.

Quadeer, common Shade. His form usually resembles that of a VERY FLAMBOYANT wood elven male. He has dark hair and dark eyes.

Skale common Shade. His form usually resembles that of a High Elven male. In this form he has pale skin and red hair. He is also known to be bound by some form of dark contract to protect the ‘Heddwyn Coven’ of Frost Witches.

Cahir, common Shade. His form usually resembles that of a High Elven male. In this form he has pale skin and red hair. Suspected son of a ‘Hauxir’

It is the wishes of myself on behalf of my beloved Synod that the knowledge painstakingly acquired and listed above goes not to waste.

Hugs and kisses and happy hunting!"

The missives are signed:

"Matorak 'The Toad',

Barrowlord of the Third Synod and Keeper of Phantoms,

Highlord of the Pale Legion,

Devout of Umbrage."

"I'm a Druid. I'm an Archdruid of the Mother Grove. Druid."

"Oh no, you've ousted the frost wit- Oh wait, they can shapeshift." Vitriol scratches his chin. "If you actually intended to hunt these things you wouldn't spread the information all over and give them prep time to change or disguise themselves. There goes the element of surprise, way to go. Not to mention a few of these names aren't even accurate."

Ro'ya blinks, before sighing, her family blatantly outed.  "It seems Ben was right, there is a war brewing with the shades."  She murmurs to herself.

"...well... that escalated," The Azure Sage of Ruin would note as she reads the parchment. She places the parchment down and leans back, sipping some mocha. "Darkness against Darkness. Light against Darkness. Light against Light. Atlas has surely been a battleground for a range of different wars and I fear this shall continue on."

A name catchers her attention and she leans forward, putting her cup  down. "Although they got one piece wrong - Skale is no longer a shade. I remember fighting him in Haeuln'or in Axios once, or was it another? Ah well. As far as my records go, he's with the druids and serves as an Archdruid... I best put out an alert on that before people takes things the wrong way and hunt down the poor fellow."

[!] Soon another piece of parchment, although smaller, would join the many posters hung around [!]

"Skale has been deemed no longer a Shade and he is a full druid in both connection and body. Please rid his name from this list and do not seek to harm him for a past he once bore. He has moved on, therefore harming him will not be needed.

- Signed, The Azure Sage."

((Just adding the letter part since Skale is no longer a shade and I have a feeling folks are going to go for him. So gonna help ya out here, @Skale ))
