An Inconvenient Truth; A Call For Action

Recommended Posts

Letters are sent out across the realm, however not to the explicit addressee's, but rather left pinned for public viewing in taverns, to the doors of churches, in the windows of clinics and posted through the visors of sleeping gatekeepers.

People of Arcas; men of the cloth, wizards of Llyria, knights of the Imperium, druids of the Wilds et cetera.
I bring ink to parchment today to reveal an inconvenient truth, concerning the recent death of one Cassian Colborn, otherwise known as the Cardinal Omeryn.

T’was in the aides of the Sun’s Smile that I, a concerned witness, did observe mister Colborn’s execution at the hands of the Xannite Order of Paladins.

The crime warranting this execution, I have learnt from various eye witness accounts, interviews and my own research, was not only mister Colborn’s harbouring of the dreaded shade parasite, descended from Iblees himself, but also titling himself as a ‘shade father’; a possessed individual who prides themself in spreading the curse to other new victims, and a wielder of black magic.

It is believed he was acting in league with other known shades, such as the Llyrian forest-elf guard Vas Vincrute and the former Warhawkian chief, Lockezi, to infiltrate the holy institution known as the Church of the Canon and avert its gaze from the known heresies of the Llyrian Concord. Irregardless of if the former information I present is to be believed, objective crimes attributed to the concord hidden by the faux Cardinal are recorded as including, but not limited to:

-Knowingly harbouring the demon Zhukar as a member of its guardforce.

-Knowingly harbouring the shade Vas Vincurate as a member of its guardforce.

-Knowingly harbouring the shade Cassian Colborn as a member of its upper council.
-Knowingly harbouring the warlock Karrysmov as a citizen.
-Knowingly harbouring the warlock Cyrene as a member of its upper council.
-Knowingly harbouring the witch Sloane as a citizen.

-Knowingly harbouring the witch Athri’ante as a citizen.
-Knowingly harbouring the warlock Aische/ Maya as a citizen.

-Permitting all forms of magic, from the neutrally chaotic to the fundamentally evil, within its walls as part of its ‘scholarly’ culture.

-Permitting all creatures and magicians, from the neutrally chaotic to the fundamentally evil, within its walls as part of its open door policy.

This letter calls upon his High Holiness, Daniel VI, for the excommunication of the late Cassian Colborn for such crimes, as well as the subsequent illegitimacy of the Llyrian Empyrion – Crumena Ilyiar’s – baptism and any claim that the nation might be in any way a ‘Canonist state’.

It also calls upon his High Holiness, Daniel VI, to see any acolytes and priests associated with the late Mister Colborn to be re-assessed and investigated on suspicion of being themselves possessed by the shade parasite.

Furthermore this letter is addressed to the Llyirian Concord’s upper leadership, including one Empyrion Crumena Ilyiar, to come forwards and confess to any knowledge held of the faux Cardinal’s possession, have himself re-baptised, plea forgiveness from the Church of the Canon for such sins, deliver the aforementioned heretics to the Church of the Canon for respective judgement and ensure that no such corruption is permitted within the Concord in future.

Addressed finally, with respective requests, are
His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Alexander of the Holy Orenian Empire,
His Majesty, King Adrian of Kaedrin,

His Majesty, King Peter of Curon,

His Majesty, King Andrik of Haense

His Grace, Duke Leufroy of Lorraine,
His Grace, Duke Adrian of Adria,

His Grace, Duke Stannis of Courland,

And the various other respective powers amongst the realms of Men,

To whom I humbly ask set aside their differences and assist in Fennic and Urguani efforts to put pressure upon the Llyrian Concord, recognising the above truths, in meeting out demonology and witchcraft in the realm and imploring – and where necessary supporting – its Empyrion and citizenry to better uphold the standards expected of all respectable nation, excluding and punishing such crimes against nature that they are where fit.

This is not an address to the world to swallow the Concord and what innocents remain there in fire and blood, nay. The crux of the missive is these requests three:

-TO denounce the late Cassian Colborn , otherwise known as Cardinal Omeryn, as a shade and an ally of chaos.

-TO lift the protections the late Cassian Colborn had given to the sorcerers and creatures listed above within the Llyrian Concord.

-TO assist in the culling of all black magicians and their machinations from Llyria, and where able the assistance of its Empyrion in this task with priority lent to maintaining Llyrian sovereignty so that it might better govern itself going forwards.

It is with little authority though noble intentions that these requests are made, for the betterment of all peoples of Arcas and whatever lands descendant-kind might come to settle.

Msgr. Othodoric hears of the message and is overcome with shock and confusion. He takes to the Holy Primates to understand this phenomenon.

“Sounds like a crock of heeby-jeeby shite to me.” Big Al Baden tugs the silly missive free from the wall of the Brannby brewhouse, folding it into quarters and using it as a barmat for his half-full pint of Brannby pale ale. Don’t want to go staining that bar-top, it’s just been varnished.

Arik gave a short tilt of his head at the news, slowly placing down the notice. ”So, my cousin is dead. You witnessed the death of a Cardinal, and suddenly start spouting nonsense of him being a dark creature? With no proof but the word of someone throwing accusations around...curious, curious..” the man spoke to himself before starting to write up some guard notices.

“Re-Baptism? What happened to the Sacrament of Confession?” Father Humbert, O.S.J. comments. “I do not believe unless sufficient proof is given, that the Church can call the late Cardinal anything other than a faithful Priest of the Church. I am sure the Holy Father will render right judgement in this case and make a decision after a full investigation.”

The Empyrion, having just returned from his honeymoon, looks over the missive with gloom. The man grimly set pen to paper, shaking his head as he wrote:

“Cassian Colborn has been a friend to my family, and to the Church for generations. This... accusation is a grave and harsh one, and I require further proof than the word of an anonymous source. If this proves to be true, which I harshly doubt, then the Concord will respond to his death appropriately and investigate the decisions made by the Lord Chancellor during his reign.

With that said, the Demon Karyssmov was slaughtered by our guards, and his ashes were personally delivered to His High Holiness, Daniel VI. Furthermore, Llyria does not permit the use of any and all magics, and is instead harshly scrutinized within our walls.

Within Canonist Teachings, the existence of abominations and malefic creatures is one that is tolerated. It is said that sapient creatures not born of the Four Brothers are corrupt, yes indeed, but are to be treated at best with pity. They are permitted to exist provided they do not reproduce, or make use of their unnatural abilities.

Furthermore, the demon Zhukar, and the shade Vas Vincrute, are not members of our Guardforce for you see, the Traceless Order was dissolved many years ago, and the Constabulary has yet to be established. The permitance of the ‘warlock’ Cyrene upon the Consul is one based in the reality that she applies to our laws and our customs, that our culture and the Canonist faith is unimpeded by her existence. Her arts are not utilised, and should proof of the contrary be brought to me then her status within the Concord will be swiftly dealt with.

It concerns me, concerned citizen, that your disregard for Canonist Teachings and Faith are so twisted and wicked. Bring unto me proof of your accusations, bring forth more than anonymity and words and I can assure you that righteous and just retribution shall be smitten upon those who are deserving.

I humbly request and beg His High Holiness to admonish these words until proof is offered, until the faithful Father is truly shown to have been wicked. His actions, his love for the Church shall not be debased by the Concord, not until such a time as it is clear that this nameless concerned citizen brings forth something viable. As a Canonist Ruler and a servant to the Faith myself, I took an oath to the Church, and to GOD, to uphold it’s teachings, and I shall not go against the vow I made and dirty the name of a Faithful Father with such frivalry.

Regards,

Ithrendas Regis, Empyrion of the Concord.”

The High Elf gives a quiet sigh, sitting within the confines of his home, locked deep within his own thought. He knew, of course, that the actions he took would bring forth consequences. He was ready for them. Though ready as he may be, it was not any easier due to such. He picked a quill up within his fingers and wrote, sending the message out for any who might be so inclined to receive it.

“Let Lefkos Amethil take all blame. The Paladin order was unaware and had no actions here. I can say for utmost certainty that Cassian was a shade, though I will waste no breath arguing the fact, only explaining for those with a will to listen. And so I say – let the blame fall on me, the one who acted.”

And so he prepared.
