Devastation

Background

The Great Ideological War and Before Devastation

The World of Aestival has been one of strife, war and bitter struggle between individuals, groups and empires for many millennia. Conflicts for land, resources and manpower have ever motivated the strong to prey upon the weak, nations rose and fell with the sands of time allowing for blocs of power and economics to form from the ashes of many conflicts. This was the status quo from generation to generation, fathers passing on their stories to their sons and so on, until the May 10th 1957 B.D what many see as the end of the Great Ideological War between the United Emritan Republics and the Fujian Federation. Said war began as a conflict between the ideals of individualistic freedom and capitalism and the strange mix between the ideals of fanatic eastern philosophy of collectivization and equality contradicted around a cultural Monarchy that has stood for centuries.

D-Day or “Devastation Day.” became infamous across every nation on the globe, the Emritian Republics deployed what came to be known as the Korolov Device against their enemy, a bomb that before or since has not been met in its destructive capabilities. Developed from the fuel that allowed for technological progression in the 19th Century B.D known as “Nephilite” that is refined into fuel. Once the Korolov Device was deployed, many thought it would lead to the Emritian Victory in the war, however it stirred something else to wake. Four hours after detonation ground zero of the blast was assailed by a creature of gargantuan proportion given the name “Kaiju” derived from the Fujian tongue and it attacked the Emritan and Fujian forces immediately requiring both sides to withdraw from ground zero of the Korolov Attack. From this day forward the calendar of all nations changed to the dates of “Before-Devastation” or B.D and “Post-Devastation” or P.D.

Devastation Day was merely the beginning of what became commonly referred to as the Devastation War, no Country be it a Superpower with the reach that was felt across the known world, or a minor state simply trying to weather the storm of the great powers. Kaiju began springing up from the vast oceans of Aestival, smashing their way inland and wrecking havoc among the peoples of the known world attracted to the residue left by Nephilite based technology leading them to attack power plants and other vital infrastructure leaving thousands dead and millions displaced and fleeing inland in a vain attempt to escape the Kaiju and their path of destruction and death. At first the response to the new Kaiju threat was divided, with each nation individually defending itself offering no help to neighbours or those in need, even for the Superpowers of the world it was leading to defeat after defeat.

This however was not to last, elements of the Chrysian Military lead themselves into a mass desertion from their nation lead by Prince Cornelius Draken forming the Order of the Drakengard and taking with them the finest of the Chrysian Technology namely the Icarus Suits, highly mobile single pilot mech suits that can be outfitted with a vast array of weaponry. This proved to be a turning point in the conflict, many countries seeing mass defections to this new independent Military order leading the vanguard against the Kaiju incursions throughout the known world. Victories began to snowball for a time, Prince Draken being both a competent Military leader but also an Icarus Suit Ace leading his own wing against Kaiju and their smaller counterparts. As the war raged on, newer innovations were being driven by the Order as after each battle the larger Kaiju kept growing in size and endurance, it was evident yet another type of weapon was needed.

Through the mediation of Prince Draken the nations of the known world formed together to create the Alliance of Nations in order to create a unified front against the Kaiju and to drive them from the shores and back to the seas. The combined minds and engineering capabilities of the Alliance was able to create yet another weapon designed to be used against the Kaiju, this came to be known as the Atlas Suit, a titanic mech standing between 250-300 feet depending on the exact design pattern. Once this had been done the war was winding to a stop, while Kaiju populations hadn’t seemingly dwindled their attacks through to the mainland were lessening over time. The period of the Devastation war lasted from 0 P.D to 34 P.D with the Alliance of Nations officially stating the war had concluded.

Post War and Reconstruction

The Current year is 40 P.D six years after the official conclusion of the Devastation War, in the time since the war ended there was much to rebuild and the Alliance of Nations managed to hold together for the time being, the Order of Draken is at present stands as the watchers for Kaiju activity and acting as peacekeepers maintaining garrisons in most nations as per the Alliance of Nations founding charter that gives the organisation oversight and acts as the enforcers of charter laws. The superpowers found themselves still in their relative positions of power, though now greatly weakened with the potential of the emerging great powers to surpass them in power, wealth and prestige. Following the official conclusion of the Devastation Wars many nations have begun to decommission Atlas Suits and other anti-Kaiju weaponry, while the Kaiju threat has significantly lessened it most certainly has not ended. But with the protection of the Drakengard the smaller nations are able to refocus on the reconstruction efforts.

The impact on society from the war was significant, wealth disparity and class divisions were heightened as a result of the war. Many civilians were relocated from rural regions or smaller urban zones to the cities, leading to a period of mass urbanisation effectively creating megacities, with most nations consisting of at least one megacity and several other smaller yet densely populated cities. The rural regions were cleared for mass agriculture that runs off of automation requiring few human workers to maintain, leading to mass unemployment for large swathes of the population in the world. National leaders are called upon by their people to find some form of resolution to this problem as to avert unrest, though at the same time appease the international business interests that contribute significant taxes, technology and resources both from the Devastation War and the Reconstruction period.

The Three Superpowers

The United Emritian Republics: Out of the Three Superpowers that sit at the head of the Alliance of Nations, the Emritian Republics can be considered the only liberal democracy backed by a heavily market orientated economy. Being at ideological odds with the Fujian Federation both in the respect of the Fujians collectivist and monarchist sentiments and resenting the almost feudalistic nature of the United Principalities the Emritians consider themselves the only modern superpower in the world. While espousing its supposedly liberal and democratic ideals the legislative body of the Republic has become mired in lobbyist groups and general disorder which in turn has allowed the executive body to amass near tyrannical power. The Office of Supreme President of the Republics has been held by George Edison for thirty six years through an executive order known as the “Kaiju Emergency Order”, effectively becoming a dictator in all but name.

The Fujian Federation: The most unique out of the Three Superpowers of Aestival, the Fujians have historically been an isolationist people but in more recent generations opened itself up for trade and cultural exchange. Many Fujian philosophers came across the writings of Herbert Trent who wrote the book “A Critique on Markets”, adapting the philosophy to their own cultural belief system it sparked a movement known as “The Young Fujian Movement” lead by Zhang Wei, Zhang Cheng and Zhang Huang known as the three Zhangs. Successfully petitioning the then young Emperor of the Fujian Empire it led to modernisation and federalism throughout his empire but most importantly Fujian Syndicalism. Allowing local workers unions to administrate respective federal prefectures, however when this was tried in several Fujian Colonies they broke off largely influenced by the Zaibatsu which controlled them. To outsiders the mixture of Syndicalism and a Cultural Monarchy is a strange blend but thus far throughout the Devastation War the syncretic combination has not failed them so far.

The United Principalities of Chryse: Something of an anachronistic anomaly at least at first glance when looking at the Principalities from the outside, in reality Chryse is a mostly centralised state that is lead by a Grand Prince or Princess who is elected for life among his or her peers. Behind many of the advances in technology before the Devastation Wars and beholden to what some might consider to be outdated philosophical ideas in how to use said ideas. Despite this the Princes and various nobles of Chryse have been patrons of the sciences for centuries leading to the Chryse Institute of Technology creating various technologies such as the Nephilite Reactor, Icarus Suits and the Elysium Interfacing System. For many years exporting this technology to the other nations for their own benefit, this all changed during the Devastation War when a leading Prince of Chryse deserted the Military with a large portion of young officers and many soldiers along with the blueprints for many Chrysian technological secrets which he handed out to every nation in the war effort against the Kaiju. This forced Chryse into the war, while condemning the Prince and the other deserters they were and are powerless to do anything about it after joining the Alliance of Nations which officially sanctions the Order of Drakengard as a peacekeeping and charter enforcement organisation.

Major Factions

The Order of Drakengard: Formed from the defectors from Chryse and later finding recruits from almost every nation due to the example it served by leading the vanguard against the Kaiju threat. Now directly funded through the Alliance of Nations it holds no stationary headquarters but instead uses a mobile Battle-Carrier to move the majority of its forces to hotspots as and when it's needed while maintaining small garrisons throughout most nations that include one or two Icarus Suit squadrons. Led by Prince Cornelius Draken, it remains highly independent even as the superpowers attempt to influence the inner workings of the organisation. Since the official end of the war the freedom it has been allowed by the many sovereign nations in the known world has begun to chafe against the authority of national leaders.

The Yashida Group: A Zaibatsu that held significant interest in a Fujian Colony before the Empire reformed into the Federation, it officially cut off ties from their former overlords six generations ago. Now led by its sixth generation head Shinzo Yashida it is a corporation with highly advanced technology and a lot of reach. The Yashida have always operated more like a Mafia family than a traditional Corporation, its Underbosses and Capos lead subsidiaries of the Company itself. It has gained its technological prowess from what it calls “Legitimate Salvage” through plundering through battlefields and taking any tech that is deemed salvageable and hiring the finest engineers and scientists from the Chrysian Institute of Technology. Being among the first to reverse engineer the Nephilite Reactor that powers Icarus and Atlas Suits among other weapons platforms.

The Alliance of Nations

All nations in the known world of Aestival are members of the organisation known as the Alliance of Nations, a mediated defensive alliance between all states that formed during the Devastation Wars. As part of joining the alliance during the war all states agreed to certain rules such as the banning of the Korolov Device and any similar weapons, to only arm Atlas Suits with Anti-Kaiju weaponry to avoid its use in conventional warfare and agreement to station Drakengard Garrisons in their nation. Annual inspections of Nephilite Refining Facilities are undertaken by Drakengard Officials who report to the Security Council which every four  years is chaired by a non-Superpower within the Alliance who decide the course of the organisation for their term of office.

Notable Universal Technologies

Nephilite Reactors: Powered by the resource known as Nephilite found around the world, it as a power source endures once it is given a core. Once given the core the reactor will power whatever its installed in for centuries with no real way to decommission them, this in turn has led to criminals and corporations salvaging many reactors for resale to avoid the high costs that come from freshly produced reactors. Used to power Battle Suits, Ships or simply used as a power plant. It is the only power source in the world known to be immune to electromagnetic pulses, making it favoured among the nations of Aestival.

Icarus Suits: Invented inside the United Principalities as a form of honourable combat, powered by a Nephilite Reactor these suits can be outfitted with an array of weaponry and some models and frames are highly customisable for their users. Typically regular models come with basic abilities such as flight, a main hand weapon, a melee weapon, however they can be outfitted with long range heavy weapons or be purely outfitted for melee should it be decided. While mass produced models are run of the mill, occasionally aces can join the field of battle in their own unique Icarus Suit Frames that are distinct from the typical ranks and usually are outfitted based around the personality of the pilot and their own combat skills. No matter what, all suits are integrated with the Elysium Interface System, meaning each pilot has to undergo invasive surgery to have cybernetics implanted up part of their spine reaching to the brain. Each machine has a form of AI that collects combat data and shares it with its pilot in real time, making even baseline suits somewhat tricky to handle and requiring significant training. For more advanced suits their AI will go even further, with some Ace Pilots opting to remove data limiters from their machines. Mechs are superior to Tanks.

Atlas Suits: Quickly invented and pushed out into service through the combined efforts and technological innovations from all nations within the Alliance, Atlas Suits are a marvel of modern engineering in fighting the Kaiju threat to humanity. A considerable investment for any nation to undertake it is powered by several Nephilite Reactors and requires Pilots at the peak of their physical and mental fitness, though not to the same extent as an Icarus Suit Ace Pilot. Outfitted with weapons that while is easy to turn on a Kaiju or perhaps even another Atlas suit, it is however quite ineffective against conventional targets with all its weapons designed to take on opponents of a similar size. Alliance regulations put specific rules on the weaponry allowed on an Atlas Suit, making it as difficult as possible to arm them for conventional war. While not requiring a pilot as skilled as one that could be considered an ace, it still has a lower pool of potential pilots than Icarus Suits. Making such a weapon sparing in use and only utilised when absolutely necessary.

Elysium Interface System: A somewhat controversial system designed from the United Principalities and their institute of technology, it is used in advanced mech suits to allow the pilot to have complete control of the machine they use, also giving them full spatial awareness while connected to their machines allowing for the right pilot to become almost an army in on themselves. The downside of such technology is the requirement for invasive surgery that gets increasingly more dangerous should the pilot in question wish for enhancements to their interfacing cybernetics. The basic surgery is simple and safe enough, which allows even the most basic Icarus Suit pilots spatial awareness, but it will set a limiter on what the pilot can do through capping data linking between the machine and human brain. The more advance removes all limiters and allows the pilot to tap into their full potential, the advanced surgery also slows the aging of the body by a significant margin once implanted as to ensure that a combat ace can serve for as long as possible, this is also to ensure the brain suffers as little degradation as possible. It does this through use of nano-machines that circulate around the body and further ensure the pilots brain operates at peak functionality once they are connected to their suit.

Naval Ships: One of the less complex technologies, naval vessels have developed throughout history and have been used for trade and war alike. Ships of the Post Devastation Era mostly deal with guided missile technology with the largest combat vessel being a battlecruiser. Carriers do exist but they are designed to hold Icarus Suits as opposed to aeroplanes.

Airships: Designed during the Devastation War, flying warships were made in order for a task force to reach a hot zone quickly, with freighter ships available to carry even an Atlas Suit to a combat zone if needed. Along with most forms of advanced technology they are powered and achieve their lift through use of Nephilite Reactors, removing the disadvantages purely naval ships have in regards to their limited ability to travel and their general vulnerability to Kaiju attack. These vessels can get very large, with the very largest of airships being purpose built super-carriers for mass deployment of Icarus Suits.

Ace Pilots

Ace Pilots are unique individuals who are able to fit all the correct parameters required for advanced Elysium Cybernetics Surgery and can survive the operation. Many nations and groups of special interest take great strides to identify these individuals within their own borders as to increase the potential for Icarus Suit Ace’s as they can turn the tide of battle if utilised correctly. With an enhanced lifespan at least by natural standards an Icarus Pilots aging is slowed to a crawl, aging believed to only set in after 150 years of age, with a believed lifespan to reach 200 years old. While to some it may seem advanced Elysium Surgery is optimal, it is only compatible to people who meet specific biological standards.

All Ace Pilots start off with these Stats below that both represent their Icarus Suit makeup and their own personal attributes.

Offense: 1

Defense: 1

Maneuverability: 1

Speed: 1

For each Ace a player receives they can allocate 10 points and must choose a weapons specialisation for the pilot which are listed below.

Melee Specialist: Going near all in with Melee weapons with only minimal ranged weapons often only being short ranged vulcan guns or miniature smart missiles. Wishing to get up close and personal to their foes be it a Kaiju or Human.

Ranged Specialist: Wishing to keep their distance they invest heavily into powerful ranged weapons, with only a back up melee weapon that is only to be used as a last resort.

Balanced: Keeping a balanced arsenal can be more beneficial and allow the pilot versatility in how they operate. Specialising in neither means they’ll never be as good as a ranged or melee specialist, but can instead be vital backup for Ace’s specialised in either of those.

An Example of an Ace is below

Name: Joshua Sena

Age: 23 (Received Elysium Surgery aged 18)

Weapons Specialisation: Melee

Stats: Offense 4, Defense 2, Maneuverability 4, Speed 4

Icarus Suit Name and Description: Joshua Pilots the custom Icarus Suit known as Wyvern, focusing heavily on offensive melee capabilities and a high speed and maneuverability rating so it may fall upon Kaiju big and small and retreat with ease. Though lackluster in its armour it could be potentially taken out of the fight with a single strike from a Kaiju and is vulnerable to melee attack at longer range. Utilising swords it keeps multiple backup blades should any break or otherwise be lost.

Application

All applicants have 30 points to allocate across a range of attributes that will affect how your nation starts off, note that there is a maximum of 5 points into loyalty and a maximum of 10 points between size and economy. This is all explained in the rules Sheet below.

Nation Name: Tautu Republika

Government Type: Republic

Leader: President Juris Bolton

Culture: Latvian

History:

Officially forming as a united defence alliance of four smaller nations that had broken apart ten decades prior to devastation day. Their formation came in 5 PD under the Tautu Republika after a Kaiju had managed to rampage across the collective territories of all four nations stopping only after their combined effort managed to rip apart its legs before an Icarus battlegroup arrived. Initially it was a rocking beginning, all four nations had to transfer into statehood rather quickly under the looming threat of Kaijus and repairs of their respective territories. Hastily built defenses around cities and the greatest grouping of refugees in the growing city of Fredstin led the nations newly assembled council of all four governors and the elected president.

President Edgars Willow, having been the one to bring all four nations to the table, was elected at the resolution of the treaty. He would serve an entire term of 15 years until his abrupt death after falling under step of an Atlas suit during its inauguration. His successor, President Juris Bolton, took his predecessors' goals of forming a strong defensive military and excellent education programs and ran with it. In the mind of Bolton, their nation's greatest strength was the unity that formed in their plight against the Kaiju.

The council itself is elected per state with four seats existing on it, the current officials needing to be replaced every 20 years under law, they have the final say in the election of the president. Their names will not be entirely important at the start of this.

Tasked with defending the coastline and borders of the recently minted republika, the armed forces of the nation are split into a conventional branch of land, air, and naval. Each branch is led by their respective leader but all answer to the Minister of Defense, Andris Gallows. Often he butts heads with the council and even Bolton due to his exuberant spending on what many call ‘pointless time sinks.’ Though despite this many see his tenure as a godsend in the aftermath of the Devastation war, his clamor for construction of bases and defenses for the cities of the states saved many lives.

Critically the nation’s greatest strength however is its education system with a vast amount of college graduates capable of performing many of the new age jobs. However the brightest minds stay employed in the company Future Dynamics or F.D. where much of the spending from Gallows goes. Their developments are used both militarily and commercially and most of the income could be said to come from their sales sent worldwide.

For all its unity, military strength, and educational prowess the nation lacks a vision and territory for its exponentially growing population. Growing pains are already being felt as the PD Baby boom begins to show its marks on the world.

Nation Name: The Corporation

Government Type: Oligarchy

Leader: Bronislaw Lieberman

Culture: Polish derivative, mixed Eastern/Central European

History: The Corporation was not formed by one being, but rather the ambitions of many. Following the catastrophic events of D-Day on the Fujian Federation, many small arms and development companies that had been under the tyranny of the Fujian Federation saw an opportunity to escape the clutches of the militarily crippled Federation and seek elysium elsewhere. Retreating to the waters on the western coast of the continents, many of these companies had filled their pockets through commissions for the Fujian Federation and seeked to stake their own claim. However, rather than simply placing themselves on the map alone and vulnerable, these minor companies seeked a treaty between them.

Now known in history as The Absolvement, the formation of a new nation simply known as The Corporation was made where the focus of quotas and efficiency far outweighed the ethics that bound many other nations to not progress their studies. With this in mind, The Corporation formed under a bureaucratic oligarchy, electing a leader to maintain the position of ‘CEO’ over the company and ensure the ideologies that progress and investment were to remain at the company’s forefront.

With years passing by and the Kaiju only becoming more aggressive in due time, The Corporation deemed it necessary for expansion into foreign markets and the requisitioning of foriegn assets. What many would deem to be unlawful, The Corporation deems as necessary in their need of expansion and progression of not only the fattening of their pockets, but the good of the human race in its entirety.

The Spire - The collective buildup of years of progress, intuition, and generalized efforts from the millions of workers of The Corporation. A true marvel of engineering that shimmers across the The Corporation skyline as a beacon of power and opportunity. Whilst on the surface the building may seem to be little more than a heavily developed construct, that could be nothing further from the truth on closer inspection to the subsystems of The Spire. On activation, The Spire transforms into what could only be called an impenetrable fortress, entirely future proofed from Kaiju incursions as well as being heavily defended from the sky and ground through automated systems; dozens of CIWS, Guided Munitions, and Missiles Silos are only among a few of the interlaced subsystems built within The Spire to act as a point of absolute defense in case of attack on the city.

Santa Maria Station - Now serving as the main R&D development station of The  Corporation, it is a long-standing and prestigious establishment that has contributed to the development of countless world-wide studies such as the Nephalite Reactor, as well as early testing for the Elysian Interface System. Previously owned and primarily operated by the AA Corporation, Santa Maria Station fell under the ownership of The Corporation during the Absolvement that linked the many companies together. Despite its prestigious past, the station was largely abandoned after its acquisition and partially utilized as little more than a waystation for deep space missions from other nations. However, after authorization for Professor Nikoś Arden to proceed with his studies, the station was redesignated as an orbital R&D department for The Corporation to practice their somewhat questionable research projects far from where it could harm anyone.

Professor, Nikoś Arden

A leading world expert of the studies of artificial intelligence, as well as a published author of various theories, Professor Nikoś Arden has all but shed his form in search of something greater. Truth be told, if not for the complexities of lobbying and generalized world politics, Nikoś would be the de facto leader of The Corporation since its earliest conception. A devoted man to not only his craft, but the betterment of humanity's future in its entirety is seemingly  all but Nikoś’ sole reason for existence. Following the events of D-Day, at the time where Nikoś was progressing his studies within the Fujian Federation, he was left in a near paralyzed state after being caught in a portion of the blast. Severely crippled, and borderline in a vegetated state, the man was the first to undergo one of his own experimental processes of transferring a consciousness to another, non-organic, being. Although the operation was a success, Nikoś’ memory was largely lost during the last several years within Fujia and some time before. With no reason to partake further in the Fujian criminal world, he sought the freedom to continue his studies elsewhere and found himself in the employment of the now leader of The Corporation, Bronislaw, before the MegaCorp’s formation.

CEO, Bronislaw Lieberman

Powerful, stunning, lunatic; the words that many describe the man who now is the head of The Corporation. While many would seek to see his head on a spike, he had already imagined it in turn years before. Many of the :wagie: below him work not for their exuberant wages, but rather in fear of displeasing the man who had taken their families captive the moment they had signed on to their position under The Corporation. While maintaining a doctrine of fear and regular shows of force, the man named Bronislaw Lieberman is all but a hero of the people. He seeks not the glory that many other leaders do, but rather the cutthroat tactics of efficiency and spread of T h e  B r a n d’,  as he puts it. Exuberant amounts of wealth, amassed promises never fulfilled, and a sharp cunning alike to something of fiction has driven this man to the peak of The Corporation.

A bounty hunter of little name, at least for the time being, Amelia sought employment under a new kind of leader. Following a set of brief attempts of joining both standardized  and privately owned military forces, Amelia could find none that appealed to her until finally meeting the representatives of The Corporation. Now, several years on in her contract, Amelia is a privatized asset that is greatly valued by those of the security wing of The Corporation.

Invicta Battlesuit (Icarus Battlesuit, Additional) - Similar in design to the Icarus, the Invicta is a land-only variant of the Icarus. With the need for flight no longer being a subject of requirement, the suit is much more well armed and armored than the Icarus, far outmatching it in both categories. Subsystems reliant on flight and maneuvering have been exchanged for additional targeting as well as crude autonomous AI functions to allow basic guard and movement commands for the mech, however expansion on these subsystems is planned...

Along with their battlefield prowess, they are paired with a mech to allow optimal control and expertise, far exceeding the skills of all other basic pilots who utilize mechs. These pilots form the backbone of The Corporation’s security sector.

Nośnik (Carrier, Replacement) - The Nośnik-class carrier serves as the command center of all airship warfare. While not being the pride of the fleet, such as a battlecarrier, the superior systems on the vessel make it an ideal command ship, though the lack of weaponry does make it a vulnerable target if not properly supported. However, in light of its lack of defensive abilities, the carrier is capable of becoming fully submersive on a few seconds notice, as well as containing advanced radar scrambling technologies to make it borderline stealth capable once underwater.

Government Type: Private Military Company and Security Consultant

Leader: Michael Gallagher, CEO of FDS International

Culture:

PMC. Fairfax breeds soldiers with immense mental and physical fortitude. They are expected to adhere to strict service decorum. They are expected to be professional, honorable and will not turn their back upon a contract once accepted. Fairfax employees enjoy and value the personal freedom, merit, and choice that comes with their trade.

History:

Fairfax Defense Solutions International formed in the year 23 P.D., approximately 15 years ago in the midst of the Devastation War. A lieutenant colonel Michael Gallagher was discharged from the ranks of the Emritan Armed Forces, having grown disillusioned with the tactics employed, taking matters into his own hands. He had held the belief that inaction and cowardice had led to the unnecessary destruction of disparate communities across the Republic. He’d lead numerous charges against Kaiju, though won costly victories, with an unprecedented casualty rate. As a result, he would quietly be deemed mentally unfit for command and relieved of duty. For his actions he returned home a hero, decorated with countless accolades - however he viewed the slight irreconcilable.

Former Lt. Col. Michael Gallagher would not sit idle as the Kaiju decimated coastal populations, and reached out to several former colleagues, friends, and benefactors. Ambitiously, they sought about forming their own group to take the fight to the Kaiju. Beginning with no more than 55 men, he and his team would reverse engineer various battlefield debris, being able to reverse engineer a combat suit of their own in the following year. Gallagher and his compatriots strode valiantly into battle, achieving a remarkable kill ratio against the Kaiju forces. However, in the coming years, Gallagher and his subordinates would lose sight of their original values - those of freedom and defiance. Gallagher had become quite convinced that his services would come only when transferred at an appropriate premium.

Due to the global nature of the Kaiju threat, there was ample work to go around and money to be had. Many fled to the ranks of FDS International in pursuit of their own fortune, taking up freelance work under their badge. This was not limited to warriors, as Gallagher took a particularly keen interest in technology and the sciences, issuing various grants for research and development and enlisting defectors from various nations around the globe. This growth would carry FDS International throughout the Devastation War and to its conclusion, where they sit as a prominent power for hire on the world of Aestival. At the end of the war, a weary Gallagher would step down from frontline combat, assuming nominal duties as CEO of Fairfax Defense Solutions International.

CENTCOM Director and Chief Executive Michael Gallagher

Some 17 years ago, Lt. Colonel Michael Gallagher founded the Fairfax Defense Solutions International Group. He is passionate and driven, having led his unit throughout the Devastation War with distinction. However, his zeal would cause him to fall out with his superiors and eventually he was discharged. Denouncing the old regimes, he and like-minded individuals set out for a new, personal project that would serve the interests of the everyday man. Whereas he was once a renowned Icarus-suit pilot, he has now resigned to live his life peacefully and serves as the chief executive of FDS.

Ace Pilot James Gallagher is son to none other than Lt. Colonel Michael Gallagher. Born just at the beginning of the Devastation War, he would not see combat until the war had drawn nearly to a halt. Nevertheless in the waning days of the war, he served alongside his father in frontline Icarus-suit combat. He  is now an experienced commander, beloved by his subordinates, and believes that none should suffer the indignation wrought by the Kaiju or fellow man.

Dr. Frederick Engleman, Director of Research and Development

Dr. Frederick Engleman represents the culmination of everything that FDS International has achieved thus far. Having first met Lt. Col. Michael Gallagher when they both served the Republic, he was a natural choice of ally when the organization was in its infancy. He was presumed dead sometime when the Kaiju brought destruction upon the facility in which he and his colleagues conducted nephilite experiments. Engleman used this opportunity to drop off the radar, only resurfacing until a mutual acquaintance reunited the two.

Nation Name: Xi’an Provinces (might alter slightly)

Government Type: Federal Autocracy

Leader: Hegemon Zhao Hai

Culture: Fujianese, distinctly detached from the Federation. Focused more around authoritarianism/nationalism and distanced from Monarchists, religious sects, and communists.

History:

Originally discovered and settled by Fujianese explorers many centuries ago, the Xi’an Provinces provided the burgeoning state with both ample land for settlement, a growing issue due to the increasingly overpopulated mainland, and key islands and ports, necessary to exert influence in the Sea of Xi’an and lower Emiritia.

By the time the Great Ideological war had broken out, the region was one of the most valuable in the Federation, but one of the most die-hard Federation strongholds, having an intense sense of nationalism and national pride. The colonies themselves provided excellent bases close to the Emiritian homeland, and thus were heavily staffed and protected by Federation troops during the war. Still, Xi’an would see its fair share of war, its many islands and coastlines being subject to numerous Emiritian Invasions. By the war's end, a massive operation to conquer the colonies had begun and been mostly contained by Fujianese troops.

Following the Devastation and the end of the Great Ideological war, the ensuing Kaiju onslaught would prove a definitive moment in the colonies’ history. With the Federation’s resources thoroughly depleted by the war, and the remaining forces stretched extremely thin, the central government could offer little in regards to assistance to areas other than the mainland. Discontent with mainland strife and inaction, and under constant attack from the seemingly unstoppable Kaiju, the various colonial entities formed the League of Tian’an. Centered around the capital city of Tian’an, the League collectively agreed to temporarily act against Federation restrictions and regulations in order to better protect their lands. The establishment of independent military formations and bases, as well as the opening of new diplomatic lines allowed the Colonies to survive through this turbulent period, though as it dragged on, many within the ruling caste became less and less inclined to return to a subservient position in the Federation government.

Besides the devastation and distancing from the Federation government, the numerous Kaiju attacks had laid waste to many of the colonial cities, forcing many millions of inhabitants towards perhaps the most secure city on the planet, Tian’an. A glorious work of modern engineering, Tian’an is one of the largest cities on the planet home to almost 70 million people in the greater urban area, roughly 70% of the province’s population, and protected by thousands of conventional defenses, several rings of Great Kaiju walls, and enormous gun positions capable of eliminating Kaiju alone, Tian’an stood as the colony’s sole bastion against the Kaiju onslaught, and a resilient headquarters for the Order of Draken for countless years.

In recent times, the Xi’an Provinces have continued to drift away from the Fujian Federation, being almost completely independent from the Federation, in all but a symbolic or traditional sense. The government of the provinces itself has also begun to become incredibly corrupt and authoritarian. Lacking any central authority to coordinate the defense and reconstruction of the nation, the position of Bazhu (Hegemon) rapidly grew in importance, having numerous privileges and authorities granted to it by the colonies until the point it had essentially become a dictator in all but name. Because of this rapid degradation of democracy, the government has become extremely fractured, akin to that of a monarch and his vassals, with clear factions and interest groups separating the country’s leadership. However, the Hegemon still remains incredibly powerful..

Groups or places of Interest:

Tian’an, The Unbreakable City:
-Serving as the nation’s capital and administrative center, as well as the center of basically all other industries in the country aside from agriculture. Tian’an is a massive city, grown to such ridiculous sizes by the Kaiju crisis, home to nearly 70 million people, more than two thirds of the country’s population. The city itself is protected by four layers of Great Kaiju walls, the first protecting a massive agricultural zone, and the remaining three dividing the city into circular sections decreasing in size. In addition to its massive walls, the city is protected by miles of above ground and subterranean defenses, as well as a massive array of giant cannons originally built to kill kaiju, but fit for bombardment on ground, air, and sea targets.

Jade Corp:

-One of the many companies operating within the colonies, Jade Corp has found particular favor within the sitting government, paying massive sums to lobbyists and politicians in order to continuously land large contracts arming the PDA. Despite their rampant backdoor dealings, the company produces and designs top of the line armaments.

The Jinyi wei
-Sometimes referred to as the Hegemon’s Fist, the Jinyi wei is are both a secret police, and a special forces unit which serves the Hegemon exclusively, and is charged with his protection.

Key Figures:

Hegemon Zhao Hai: The reigning Hegemon for nearly twenty years now, Hai wields what are essentially dictatorial powers across the colonies. Despite his authoritarianism, he is well respected by the population, many believing his leadership was essential for pulling the colonies out of the crises following immediately after the Great Ideological War. He is the main proponent of the Anti-Federation movement, strongly advocating for Colonial independence.
(4 Charisma, 7 Leadership, 1 Martial)

Field Marshal Han Xin: Supreme commander of the Provincial Defense Army, Xin’s experience begun during the Great Ideological War, where he was responsible for the defense of the far western colonies. His leadership playing a vital role in containing the initial Emiritan Landings
(3 Charisma, 7 Leadership, 2 Martial)

Captain Yue Fei: One of the country's only two “Aces”, Fei is a massively popular figure and a rising star within the military, his unit being responsible for countless victories against Kaijus.

Basically German Engineering. In seriousness though, they are atheist people. Faith has no room for them, science is king. Don’t explain something you can’t explain with greater powers, use reason and investigate.

History:

Nestled deep in the mountains lies Exotec, a Corporate state, more a Science Directorate. Led by Friedrich von Erlenfeld, this nation is focused on neutrality, prosperity and cutting edge technology. Given its isolationist status, it was mostly untroubled by the events in the past, though still it remained a small “realm”, not expanding beyond its natural confines. This led to the nation being a small one, but rich one, technologically advanced, something the dynasty von Erlenfeld has been pursuing. In the end, despite all rights and wrongs of mankind, they were still a people in their infancy and they had to learn. Young Friedrich pursued his goals of widening the knowledge of mankind, broadening the mental horizon for them. Men and women who shared his sentiment joined him in his ventures and soon enough Exotec became what it is today.

A fresh wind blows in these years and Friedrich von Erlenfeld feels ready to bring Exotec out of isolation and take a stance on the world stage. The fate of millions rest upon his shoulders, but he is ready to take the risks necessary to pursue what is best for mankind.

The family’s patriarch is nobody else than Friedrich von Erlenfeld himself, who is a descendant in direct lineage to the founder of the family.

Nation Name: Sumiyoshi Clan

Government Type: Organized Crime Syndicate

Leader: Takamoto Sumiyoshi

Culture: Fujian/Yashida Roots

The small but dedicated Sumiyoshi clan has been an integral cog of Fujian society. As far back as the dawn of their people, this clan was involved. The Clan has always been utterly dedicated to Zaibatsu and their family honor. Any Sumiyoshi honors the house caste and traditions. The Father and Mother of any given house dominate the choices and actions of their members. Families that grow big enough can have a single Matron looking over three generations worth of growth and ambition.

It’s common at an early age for Sumiyoshi boys and girls to be trained in the arts of the clan and Fujian tradition. They are treated equally, and quite ruthlessly. Any not found up to standards of the clan get cast into outsider roles. Those who succeed and even excel receive the most attention. In this way every generation raises the next to the high standards their ancestors set for the Clan.

History; The Clan prospered for centuries off the isolationist way of their people. The Clan was always however on the outlier, the frontier. Not content to sit back in splendor, the Sumiyoshi always sought for more. This was largely how they made their way, plundering treasures from the wonders of the world. And then using it to exert wealth and power to their family. They were some of the first to shed the isolationist ways. Pirates and black market crime lords unofficially.

As time went on The Clan adapted with the technology and needs of it’s people. Always quick to strike new deals, procure new tech, invest in new methods. And it has almost always paid off, leaving Sumiyoshi a prime member of the emerging Yashida Syndicate. As colonies began to grow, this was a massive opportunity for the clan.

Uprooting from the homeland, the Clan migrated it’s wealth and power to their own little fiefdom. Far away from the prying eyes of Fujian nobility, they grew in prosperous peace. It was here that the Sumiyoshi truly became a Crime Family. Their operations were so embedded in Fujian operations, they were seen as a need. With the advent of mech technology, everything changed yet again. Now the clan focuses on making the finest mechs, and training the best aces.

Groups or places of interest: To be revealed in RP

Key Figures (3 people with points):

Takamoto Sumiyoshi; The hard line leader of the Clan. She is a matron of now three generations worth of Sumiyoshi. Elderly, but not weak, many learn to fear her. From the Clan palaces on their estate her decrees and law ecos out. [Leadership; 6 Charisma; 6]

Takashima Sumiyoshi; The darling Ace of the entire Clan. He is a skilled mech suit pilot, wielding the Unique Sumiyoshi Suits since an early age. He is a direct heir of the legendary Takamoto, her being his great grandmother. Usually leads military expeditions, and trains new mech fighters. [Leadership 4 Martial; 5 Agility; 3]

Saito Yushi; The illegitimate daughter of a disclosed Sumiyoshi Clan member. Her mother was of sufficient ranking that she was allowed to live. Saito was taken into the lower echelons of the clan. But like any child in the Realm, she was appraised for mech training. It was apparent early on her skills even matched Takashima. Though she had far less easy access, she too has risen to Ace status over the years. [Martial 6 Charisma 3 Agility 3]

Their secondary role is the use of their heavy armaments. Utilizing this weaponry they offer close aerial support to the mechs they drop off.

Takeda Suits; The Unique brand of the Sumiyoshi mech building power. These suits are one of a kind, and can only be built by master Clan mech-smiths. The suit is a far better crafted version of the Icarus suit. Takeda suits are faster, more maneuverable, and pack more of a punch. They are hand tailored to the Ikikomo Knights that pilot them, forming a deadly unique combo.

Ikikomo Knights; The most elite mech suit fighters from the esteemed Clan ranks. These Knights are trained from practically birth for the high stress of Mech warfare. They are trained to rely on pure instinct and data reading in real time. Very few graduate the schools, but those that do are already well on the road to becoming Aces.

History:

The Almaanians of Almanland have a long and exhaustive history upon Aestival. Once ancient tribes, turned Kingdoms, and eventually an autocratic Empire, Almania’s late iteration.

With much of Almania’s land bordering the open oceans, the Kaijus that appeared after Devastation Day laid waste to the old Empire - completely overwhelming any sort of defenses the Imperial Militaries could dispatch. The old Capital of the Empire, Alia, was situated upon the coast in the far east of the peninsula, and so was subjected to destruction. The Imperial Household would not survive the attack, and would be exterminated by the Kaijus. The devastation brought upon D-Day granted the Empire no respite, and a vacuum of power soon ensued - even in the face of annihilation, Man’s greed knew no boundaries.

It was during this time that the Empire had completely collapsed, the old order being wiped out in the process. The Princes, Dukes, and aristocracy would flee from Almania with their wealth and escape to the United Principalities of Chryse, leaving behind a country tearing itself apart as extremists organizations rose from the rubble. The Unitarian People’s Fascists would coalesce, and the same with their counterparts, Trentist Communists - while a third party formed quietly in the background, Republicans espousing Emritian Ideals.

10faaf562e0d415294a837c9903cecab.png

The civil war lasted a bloody 14 years, from 0 P.D to 14 P.D, accentuated by the ceaseless hordes of Kaijus washing up on Almanian shores. It was not described by epic battles, but rather sporadic battling, as the major factions had fought under the shadows of the abysmal creatures since D-Day. It would be the Republicans that would come out on top, having received the backing of the Emritian Republics, as well as the timely assistance of the Drakengard Icarus Squadrons, who opened a new front against the Kaijus in Almania as the Republicans struck for the control of the nation.

Republican forces would finish the war in simultaneous attacks against the Unitarian and Trentist Capitals - one attack led solely by Almanians, and the other by a minor Emritian Expeditionary Force. The more in-land Capital of the Unitarian Party, Rikkland, was near instantly captured by the Republicans, who had dropped onto the city in their Icarus Suits from a multitude of airships. The Republican flag was planted upon the destroyed ruins of the old Imperial Reichstag building, signifying the close in one of the chapters of the war.

The Emritians held no such luck to their advantage, the Trentist held City of Huben laid near to the coast still, and the Expedition’s approach brought with them many Kaijus to the area. What ensued was one of the most catastrophic battles of the Almanian Civil War; a City with a population of over three million Almanians was to be indiscriminately ravaged in the span of less than a week. Intense carpet bombardment accompanied by Kaiju intervention would mark the death of Huben, out of the millions, only a few hundred thousand civilians would survive the conflict. It nevertheless led to the destruction of the Trentist Ideology within Almania, with many of its members fleeing to the Fujians or Yashida. The day the fighting was declared over, is solemnly remembered as Huben Memorial Day, 14 P.D..

4b597cc897ab694acec5c7cc2e5677d6.png

With the apparatus of state now in the hands of the Republicans, the Federal Republic of Almania was declared in the year of 16 P.D, after a couple years of reconstruction. States were carved up from the ruins of the Almaland Empire, and a unified fight against the Kaijus persisted. However, the Republic had its glaring faults, namely in its affairs with the post civil war rehabilitation.

In order to ensure stability in the face of the Kaiju, the first Chancellor, Elbrecht Hart, ordered for the widespread executions and deportation of any and all political dissidents in an event known as Black Purge. Though Chancellor Hart was capable of winning the civil war, he was incapable of managing the torn country that came with such a victory. His actions allowed the economy to remain in shambles, and the Almanian people continued to starve. A new civil war seemed to be on the horizon.

However, Hart would be killed by a Trentist Radical on his first anniversary as Chancellor - in a revenge plot. In the following rush for the Chancellorship, the Bundestag was threatened to undergo the same chaos it was dealt during the start of the civil war 17 years ago. To prevent such anarchy from repeating itself, a new faction made its presence violently known in Almanian Politics; the Reconstructional Federal Police.

Following the end of the Civil War, the newly formed Police had seeped its way into all fabrics of society, and also was responsible for carrying out the Black Purge. It had amassed itself a considerable amount of experience, knowledge, control, and had been persuaded to exert such onto the Parliament. The persuader would become the 2nd Chancellor of Almania, Anton Amman.

Lauded in modern times as the Father of the Nation, Anton proved himself to be a miracle unto the Almanian People. He was quick to deal with the unrest, implementing various reforms, and a strong use of secret police. The Order of Drakengard were granted full authority of the nation’s response to the Kaiju Invasions, securing its territories as most Kaijus were driven off or exterminated by Order pilots. Furthermore, in return for mining rights, Nephilite and other unshackled resource harvesting privileges, the Emiritian Republic commenced the Amman Plan - which saw the Chancellor’s ambitions for a revitalized Almania come to fruition in the face of the Kaiju threat. The Aid Plan was structured over the span of a decade, capable of responding to regional crises and needs as they occurred. It was also during this time that the construction of the Alamandian Wall commenced, a bulwark designed to forevermore dispel any Kaiju threat from the Aestivian oceans.

In the year 28 P.D, 12 years into his Chancellorship, Amman suffered both a heart attack and a stroke, and was shortly after declared deceased. He was succeeded by his successor, in an absolute majority election, Michael Stadler. His tenure saw to the eventual dispatching of nearly all Kaiju in the Almanian Region, alongside with the Order of Drakengard. Observing the doctrines and techniques of the Order used in battle, Chancellor Stadler implemented similar schemes within the Bundesarmee - molding and shaping an efficient anti-Kaiju force in his part of Aestival.

The next couple years were dedicated solely to the eradication of the Kaiju from the coastal regions of Almania, and victoriously concluding in this endeavour with the rest of the world when the Devastation War ended in the year of 34 P.D. Seeing his life goal concluded, Chancellor Stadler peacefully retired to the interior, resigning to the next Chancellor, Konrad Meier.

From the onset of his tenure, Chancellor Meier was subjected to the overburdening of the expansive Bundesarmee and the Bundespolizei. His austerity measures led to many widespread riots, which were subsequently quelled by the introduction of Icarus Suits in policing activities, by one Friedrich Haunts, Minister of the Federal Police. The previously established foreign control of Almania’s resources were nationalized entirely, leading to sanctions being placed upon the Republic, mainly by the Emritians - which were quick to be vetoed by Fujian and Drakengard delegates in the Security Council of the Alliance.

The following years saw the conclusion of the Alamandian Wall, an engineering marvel of the new post Devastation Aestival - as well as the general sense of stability returning to the populace.

Chancellor Meier would bring the Almanian People into the Modern Era, 40 P.D.

Almanian military doctrine is described entirely by its ability to maintain an unbreakable defense. Mech units rolled out are designed in ways that fit this defensive mindset. Most frontline Icarus models utilize a shield, from which they can mount their Nephilite-powered miniature railguns, and provide amplified firepower from this stationary position. Speed and agility is traded in order to augment their sturdiness and overwhelming shock and awe capabilities.

Ritter-class Icarus Suits

The run of the mill mass produced Almanian Suits. Designed in such a way to allow larger payloads and heavier armor - as well as their iconic bulwark, the shield. They are specialized for long range engagements, dispatching their targets from miles away, utilizing their shield mounted coilguns. A Ritter-class Suit typically hides a short range melee weapon behind its shield, usually a dagger suited for a mech with additional weaponry mounted elsewhere.

History: The Tsardom of Khasavo was once a part of a greater Empire and a united people. The Civil War erupted near the start of the Destruction War, As the Communist Uprising among others tore the Empire apart from the inside out. However a great many in the military and those around Khasavo held faith in the Empire and rallied under the banner of the old Emperor’s most faithful noble families, House Demidov. A large portion of the old guard and their forces swore loyalty to Nicholas Demidov I after the Emperor and his kin were slaughtered by the Communist uprising. Taking the title of Tsär of Khasavo, Nicholas was able to secure his home and the nearby provinces to remain loyal. The war was costly however and it appeared neither side was capable of warring the other to a final defeat so instead the two remained at odds in the presence of each other's existence. As the years went by and war became further and further from the people’s mind they focused to rebuild as a far greater threat existed. The Kaiju as many called them. While very wary of their neighbours the Tsär holds no interest in a war with the Communist of Kornograv while the monster threat remains a top priority. Though whispers of rebirthing the Empire flow throughout the Tsardom and ambitious eyes look beyond Khasavo’s borders.

Nation Name: The Sky-City of Avar

Government Type: Oligarchy

Leader: The Conference of Skylords

Culture: A nation built around the singular ideal of mental purity. A nation of witnesses to the Truth, a phenomenon that elevated their people to the Chosen. Obsessed with maintaining that streak of Knowing, they use clones and digital uploads of their consciousness to maintain their population. Their ranks can never grow, for their offspring would be Unknowing, and those who are Unknowing must be purged. A racial hodge-podge - the only thing that matters in Avar society is the Knowing of the Truth.

History:

Avar came into existence long before the Devastation War began - for much of its long history, the region was a famed university town, and people came from across the world to study in its hallowed dorms. This would, however, change with the coming of the Devastation.

When the Emiritians activated their Korolov Device, much of Avar's population say something in the sky that night - a natural phenomenon, an incredible display of lights in an unbelievable series of beautiful patterns. What the people of Avar saw that night…. Changed them. It was as if a switch had been flicked in their minds - those who had seen the display became the Knowing, the Chosen. The unfortunate souls who had slept through it we butchered in what became known as the Great Purge, as the Chosen ran riot, killing any Unknowing they could lay their hands upon.

Then the Skylords rose to the fore of the Chosen, leading and organising the hectic movement. Varuak organised the scientists, the soldiers, the engineers, and set forth on an almighty quest to ascend to the skies, to be closer to the miracle that had blessed his people. As the Devastation raged, the people of Avar forged their destiny in the air, building their mighty Sky-City, and swiftly boarding it, and rising to the heavens.

By this time, the Avarians had perfected the miracles of their cloning technology - it became possible to clone a body, and then to digitally upload the consciousness of another into said organic frame. Children became an unnecessary burden - they were born after the Miracle, and could this only be Unknowing - and swiftly, the artificial bodies of the Avarians became sterile, capable of carnal activity, but incapable of reproduction. Of the Chosen, there were only a select few, and they were irreplaceable, but they were provided with as many clones as they needed.

By roughly 36PD, the war was dying down, and Varuak had made his preparations in great secret, hiding his activity behind the massive and ongoing war efforts. Varuak sent his fleets forth, beginning a brutal campaign of genocide and destruction against the unbelievers. Unfortunately, he had misjudged, and the Avarian Sky Fleet was crushed, and crushing restrictions were placed upon the Avarian military. Varuak fled, and spent the next four years in hiding….

But the Father of the Sky-City has since returned, and he rules now from the shadows, backed by the Conference of Skylords, until it is time to reveal himself once more….

The T477-Powered Infantry Armour is an exceptionally high tech suit designed to make the average infantryman into a one man, mobile warmachine. Equipped with high power hydraulics and boosters, the T477 is capable of extreme high speed and height manoeuvres. It can be armed with a flamethrower, an autocannon, a high calibre machine gun, flares and powerful rocket launchers, capable of firing AA, AT and anti-personnel ordnance. The armament is decided on a mission by mission basis. Machine guns and flamethrowers are internally mounted. The T477 is designed as drop armour, and it is specifically paired with the V12 Attack Dropship, in order to perform incredibly precise, coordinated and destructive air cavalry assaults. The T477 is remarkably small, standing at 7 feet exactly, allowing it to pack an incredibly powerful punch in a relatively small frame.

V12 ATTACK-DROPSHIP (2 slots)

The V12 Attack-Dropship is designed expressly for the purpose of delivering the T477 to the battlefield and providing it with extreme close air support. The V12 is incredibly fast, allowing for rapid deployment, and it is armed with a series of heavy rockets, cannons and coilguns, designed to wreak absolute destruction upon ground targets. Additionally, the V12 is equipped with a specially designed system of armour, which camouflages itself against it's surroundings in much the same style as a Chameleon, in order to confuse the naked eye. In terms of personal defenses, the V12 has flares and radar distortion systems, rendering it a largely stealth aircraft.

Rapture’s Hand

Government Type:

Totalitarian Theocracy

Leader:

The Prophet

Culture:

Rapture’s Hand is a totalitarian, theocratic psuedo-state predicated on complete secrecy and fanatical devotion to the belief that mankind has been judged by whatever gods or divine forces control the universe and found to be sinful. The Devastation, or as they know it “the Rapture”, was a holy event, but it is incomplete. Until all face judgement, the “Angels” will continue to assault and destroy all men equally, not just the sinners and heretics. To this end, the Hand is dedicated to an apocalyptic crusade to topple all pre-existing nations and instill the world with unshakable faith in their cause. The Kaiju must be aided in their divine mission to destroy the sinners, and as many souls must be saved as possible by bringing them to the true faith. None shall escape judgement.

History:

The Devastation was a massive blow to the collective psyche of all Aestival, from which some never recovered. Longheld faiths evaporated overnight, and others that clung on struggled to maintain and air of legitimacy for their believers. Lives were ruined, and religious conviction shattered. The origin of the idea of the Kaiju as a divine punishment is unclear, and likely to have developed in many places simultaneously, but it was in the vast areas of land abandoned by the surviving nations that this idea propagated and flourished. Scattered sects and enclaves joined together under the banner of survival, a banner that in time morphed into an insideous, totalitarian ideology predicated on total faith in the Prophet – a figure of unknown name and origin who galvanised disparate nomad factions, dissident churches and social revolutionaries into the doomsday cult known today as Rapture’s Hand.

Over the decades since its formation, the Hand has established numerous underground cities and decentralised enclaves – both to escape the wrath of the “Angels” and those who would see their ideology as dangerous. From these hidden bases, missionaries are sent forth to evangelise in the lawless regions of the world, providing food, comfort and spiritual aid. Rumours of pogroms, brainwashing and wilful baiting of Kaiju packs into the settlements of unbelievers abound, but in the absence of proper protection, the cult is often the best option for millions. Rapture’s influence is not limited to no-man’s land, with the Prophet ordering the faith be spread into the fortified nations of the world. Hand ideology sees these nations as bastions of sin, remnants of a world that must finally be destroyed for the Devastation to end and the holy mission of the kaiju to be complete. Only when all are judged can mankind truly be saved.

Nation Name:

Kornograv SFSR

Government Type:

Authoritarian Soviet Dictatorship

Leaders:

Comrade Grand Marshal Bernd Sanderski

Comrade Grand Marshal Ieremiya Korbinov

Culture:

Kornograv is a nation where absolute devotion to the state and its leaders is demanded, although whether the people actually give such loyalty is a different story. In either case, the SFSR is a rather repressive regime, with dissidents, reactionaries, and the disloyal often sent to work on sea walls – or worse, thrown into the ocean. Those who do believe in the revolution are generally either overzealous or ravenously ambitious, and it is rather difficult to tell which is which among the leadership of the Republic.

History:

The history of the Kornograv SFSR is one of suffering and conflict, both of which continue to this day. Borne out of the more kaiju-exposed east of the vast Tsardom of Khasavo, the SFSR began as a mere social movement. As great, hulking monsters tore through cities and towns, the peasants and workers of what was once known as the Grand Duchy of Kornograv became increasingly agitated at the lack of protection – never mind welfare – provided by the Tsardom, focused as it was on ensuring the Imperial heartlands were best secured.

Local unions and syndicates were the ones leading the efforts to rebuild after Kaiju incursion, and to ensure that poverty and disease wouldn’t finish off the survivors. A dual power began to develop in Kornograv – that of the increasingly unpopular Imperial authorities, and that of Kornograv locals increasingly taking matters into their own hands. The Tsardom at first seemed quite happy to allow this state of affairs to continue, given Kornograv was able to start rebuilding and paying taxes without having the Demidov regime sending a single ruble. An enormous blunder, given what happened later.

Once the local unions, syndicates, and soviets began taking the matter of defending against the Kaiju into their own hands, the fate of Khasavo was sealed. The people no longer looked to the Tsar for protection, for leadership – instead they looked to the two main faces of Kornograv’s growing second authority – Bernd Sanderski, and Ieremiya Korbinov. After they organised a defence of Pavograd, the largest city in the Grand Duchy, they declared the decadent Imperial state to be not only oppressive, but obsolete, and the time for action now. From the smoking rubble of Pavograd, the revolution was proclaimed.

As the Pavograd soviets formally assumed authority and began extending it by military force throughout Kornograv, more joined in the fervour. The cities of Norevtopol, Veliky Azhaisk, and Meryabinsk all flipped to red, and joined the forces of Kornograv. Before the Tsar had time to transport troops to Kornograv, most of it had fallen to the growing armies of Sanderski and Korbinov. But they did arrive, and that was when the Civil War truly began.

At first, the momentum of the revolution propelled it across northern Aestival and towards the heartlands of Khasavo. It was during this time that the Imperial royal family was even assassinated as they visited a city that had been infiltrated by agents of Pavograd. What would normally have been the nail in the coffin proved the saving grace for the Tsardom, as bolstered by reactionary resolve, they rallied behind the new Tsar, Nicholas. His assumption of the throne proved a turning point, though it was not the sole cause of the turn. The Red Army had overextended itself, both militarily and administratively. Defending and governing such a vast amount of land was impossible for the nascent socialist state, and as Imperial forces began to push back harder, they began to withdraw back east.

Eventually, the Imperial push also slowed, and the whole civil war devolved into a debilitating grind with no progress made by either side. As the war dragged on and on, and both Kaiju attacks and the Alliance of Nations began to put further pressure on Khasavo and Kornograv, a ceasefire was eventually declared. As of the present day, no peace treaty has been signed, and both states remain in a cold war with the other. In the years since, both have recovered and rebuilt, but neither has yet tried to resume. Kornograv, seeing itself as the “liberator” of all the subjects still under Imperial rule, awaits any opportunity to do so.

The Supreme Soviet of the Korngrav SFSR

Based in Pavograd, the capital, the Supreme Soviet of Kornograv is housed in a vast, almost labyrinthine brutalist complex. For all its pomp and grandiosity, very little is actually decided in the Chamber of the Congress – it is merely a rubber stamp for the absolute authority of the Grand Marshals.

Culture:

The Harmon’s are a hivemind of sorts, in which the Harmons rule as an interconnected hive of evolved humans who each possess some level of personal sentience despite being connected. They in turn control the Striia, which are the majority demographic of the Alpha and are completely slaved to their wills. The Harmon’s follow a strict adherence to the laws of nature. Weakness is despised, and physical deformities, if they are not deemed to be evolutionarily advantageous lead to a quick death by burning, to prevent anyone from consuming such flawed flesh.

In war, the Harmon believe in the consumption of the flesh of worthy foes. It is an honor to have your flesh consumed, for it is to be considered worthy of being incorporated into the Alpha Species.

In terms of outwards politics, the Alpha Species see all other humans as inferior, flawed and outdated, for the world has moved on, and left their feeble flesh behind. However, at the moment, they consider them beneath their notice, and focus on the hunting of Kaiju, the true prize. For therein lies the future of the Harmon. The Kaiju DNA must be harvested, and the Harmon must evolve.

The Harmon do not practice any religion, but they consider the Kaiju to the incarnation of Evolution itself, and come as close to worshipping them as anything else. However, their worship is centered around the Hunt & the Consumption, two ritualistic moments in which these divine beings are hunted, killed and consumed, to further their own evolution.

History:

The Harmons are born of small villages on the coastlines that were affected by tides full of Kaiju blood. Ignored by the authorities and hit during starvation seasons, they were forced to drink contaminated blood and consume kaiju flesh to survive. Most died, but some survived...

Ziggoroth is an aberration. He was created when a Hivelord accidentally grabbed him and put him through the acid baths that are used to change humans into striia. This caused the Harmon to become a horrible, warped striia-harmon hybrid. While his mind was shattered by the transition, he retains a vicious, animalistic sentience. However, he is barely slaved to the will of the Harmon, and is carefully avoided by most, as he is capable of horrific levels of violence in the search for evolutionary material.

Cable is the face of the Alpha Species to the outside world. He is their only envoy to the AoN, where he wears simple, borrowed robes. His evolutions give him superior hearing, a useful tool amongst diplomats.

Point Distribution:

 Mil 10, Tech 10, Size 10.

National Idea:

The Striia: The population is divided between drones and kaiju-esque creations, named the Striia, and the small human/harmon elite. The Striia are bound to the wills of the humans, who themselves share a mental connection. (Harmon, 5%, Striia, 95%)

Hyper-Evolution: The Harmons and Striia are able to eat man and beast alike, to gain their traits and memories.

Biological Ascendancy: Tech slots are replaced by evolution slots. The Hive researches evolutions to its units through this means. Cannot research artificial technology.

Strains: Each type of unit has two strains, which add a trait to this sub-type of unit. Strains are instant research at first, but changing one removes it for two turns, until the new one is developed. All units are replaced by a biological equivalent.

The Master and the Bond: Atlas are replaced by Purebreed Kaijus. (Unique unit for description.) Cannot build Icarus suits. Aces are replaced by Masters, who enter a meditative meld with their chosen Purebreed from a distance, and become one with the monster. Over time, they often gain mental and physical traits associated with their bonded one.

Harmons: Harmons are the evolved meta-humans who have shifted their DNA with Kaiju DNA in the quest for evolution. Their specific genetic makeup and capabilities can very within reason, depending on the individual. Due to their mind-meld, loyalty is not necessary.

Evolutionary Zeal: Inability to trade or build artificial constructs. Heavy Foundry yield x2. Population gold yield x0.50.

Uniques:

The Purebred: Kaiju grown from the cells of fallen beasts, these purebreeds gestate within massive eggs, fed by a carefully regulated stream of evolutionary augmentations, in an effort to achieve purpose made monstrosities. Each one is usually unique, and can have traits that have not been researched, but cannot be applied to anything else. (For example, acid spit without researching it.) They come in three categories:

-Class 1 ‘Dancers’: The smallest. 50% the cost of an Atlas, 50% the size. (No research needed)

-Class 2 ‘Warriors’: 100% the cost of an Atlas, 100% the size.

-Class 3 ‘Titans’: 150% the cost and size of an Atlas. The epitome of evolution. Massive beasts of immense strength and power.

Class 2 Purebred, ‘Lord Shatter’ & Master Apexis.

The Strikling: The size of a large St. Bernard, the strolling is a vicious, semi-sentient creature entirely slaved to the hivemind. Without its control, it reverts to primal, predatory instinct. A horrible intermixture of kaiju and various animal dna strains, it is a fast-moving creature with claws and teeth strong enough to rend through steel. It’s jaw is so strong that it can snap steel beams. However, its armor plating is weak, and is only capable of holding back limited calibers and small amounts of small-arms fire. (Conscript tier, 25.000 per unit.)

The Hivemaster: A large beast seated on four high legs, the Hivemaster has an armored shell into which it can retract, along with heavily armored appendages extracted from turtle DNA. It lacks any real offensive capabilities and is quite slow. However, its belly has a multitude of low hanging, writhing tentacles which will grab at any non-harmon or striia, pulling them up screaming and kicking into its belly, where they are bathed alive in an acid bath that mutates their DNA and turns them into warped and broken striia, bound to the mind of the Harmons. (Tank unique. Turns humans into striia.)
