The Hangmen

 

The horses of the Hangmen moved across the marches of Arcas with good pace. Their stallions strained at their bits, arching their short necks and squinting around at their riders. It seemed that the war-horses were trying to nip at the knees of their riders, braying for the hunt as much as the men atop their saddles. The lead rider, clad in the leather-studded vestments of his outfit, put his horse into a fast trot after reaching the rise of the hill. A chain of dogs flanking the horse, it takes a long canter for the man to turn to face his comrades. They reached their objective; the old Dwed-Krug war-camp ravine, in less than an hour. With some horsemen striding through the undergrowth along the peak of the slope, the captain dropped down into the ravine, cautiously avoiding the pits in the stone. Every few paces the old captain peered up, looking through the visor of his helmet and catching the clean-cut figures of a dozen men of his outfit.

 

“‘e’s not coming.” came the shout like a cross-bow bolt from the other side of the bridge.

 

The captain sharply looked up once more, watching his men turn their stallions with whips raised. As quickly as his rally had assembled, it dissolved.

 

COMPETENCIES

 

With the rise in conflictless wars, the Hangmen serves as a mother-company for the numerous previously established mercenaries. Unlike those professing to have steeled their expertise through the minor skirmishes of the previous three-decade war, the ranks of the Hangmen are from those who spent those wars seeking conflict instead of waiting for petty bandits to arrive at their gates.

PAYMENT

 

As with all soldiers of fortune, it is the duty of the Hangmen to facilitate their duties to the highest bidder. Should a contract be taken and the opposing party be outbid, they would accept the higher payment. Cash remains king.

 

CONTRACT AGREEMENTS

 

• We demand half of all promised payment up front if payment is to be a lump sum.

• We demand two week’ payment in advance if payment is to be weekly.

• We will notify other mercenaries if a client does not pay.

• We require the client to spell out exactly what will satisfy the requirements of employment in writing.

• We will fulfill all requirements of employment unless the opposing side is proposing a higher payment, in which the mercenaries will gather their belongings and pursue the riches.

• We maintain confidentiality concerning who hired him and what he is asked to do.

• We only work for competing employers after 1 week of a contract’s expiry.

• We will not harass citizens of the opposing side unless the employer specifies such. If specified, there will be additional fees on top.
