~ The Burning of the Basilica 1836 ~

It had been years since the unnatural fire devastated the House of God nestled within the Imperial Capital of Providence. Many citizens poured into the streets to view the horror claim what was considered among the most sacred of ground. The blaze itself spiraled and churned with an intense fury that felt as though it would render the beautifully spired Cathedral into naught but dust and soot. All those brave enough to attempt to stay the destruction were driven off by the unbearable heat, while the rest observed in pure shock. It was a day that many most likely will never forget so long as they live.

After the carnage subsided, the grand seat of Orenien faith still stood. Blackened and warped by the horrific fury, not much had survived within though the skeleton of the building persisted. The devastation was severe and unprecedented, never before have the peoples of Oren and the children of God abroad seen such an affront to their place of worship. Countless relics, tomes, and frescos were undoubtedly lost while countless more lay under piles of smoldering rubble. Though amidst the wreckage His miracles persisted. The most obvious of such miracles was the astounding survival of the grand wooden cross mounted over where the holy dias had once sat. But other demonstrations of God's will shone through the destruction as well. Visages of Exalted Owyn, the Purifier, were left virtually unscathed- neither dirtied nor burnt while so much else around them was left unrecognizable. A clear message from the almighty God that his flame was truer than whatever demonic machinations that tried to render low a dedication to His glory.

Even in the face of such a catastrophe, the will of the Orenien people persevered. In a cooperative effort with the Holy Pontificate, the nation's brightest architects and engineers set to work on restoring the powerful symbol of Canonism. The damage done to the foundations had fortunately been minor, while the major structural elements of the building had too survived the hellish heat. There was much that needed to be done to ensure the future stability and integrity of the monument; and through many great labors of mind and body it was made so. The Church too had proven an invaluable contributor to the Cathedrals restoration, commiting the late Cardinal Basil as the Chief Architect. The Cardinal, surely guided by God's will, was able to surpass the original splendor of what once stood before- in direct defiance of the grotesque destruction that had wounded every Canonist across the world. It was yet another of God's miracles that the final designs of the Cardinal were finished and delivered to the Archchancellor of Oren before he was unceremoniously assassinated in a foreign land.

Another year had passed since then, every detail of the Cardinals plan was painstakingly implemented, down to the inch. No matter who might oppose her peoples, what pathetic abominations might assail her faith, or what travesties might oppose her destiny; The Holy Orenien Empire will weather it all and return the favor in kind.

Anders Cardinal Jorenus would walk throughout the Mother Church in awe, but after doing his full tour he would note quite a few absences such as the conventional iconography of the Exalted. He hopes that amendments are made to accompany such.

"May the Cardinal Basil rest in peace. I had hoped to meet the man once again... but sadly fate had different plans. I hope he rests well in the Seven skies and looks down on us, seeing his great work." would state the Duke of Adria, signing the lorraine.

"The restoration of the Basilica shall be in name of Cardinal Basil. Even if he did give us trouble during his life, his intentions were always to further the good word of GOD. May he rest in peace." Count Erik Othaman signed the Lorraine over himself as he muttered a pray under his breath.

"Niet matter the scorn or the jeering of the unbelieving, the Orenian shall always believe in the supremacy of the Lord. Amen."

Louise Antoinette choked on her wine while looking at the missive of the rebuilt basilica.

"For the love of GOD they made the house of GOD uglier! Can't anything be made to honor him correctly?"

The canonist woman whined before throwing the missive into the fire of her chateau.

Julian signed the lorraine about his chest, the movements with the beads of sweat dripping from his forehead as Captain Erik Othaman stood just over his shoulder, menacingly dragging his blade across a grindstone. "Err, Captain, how long must I stand like this?" @grnappa

Primrose Gendik passed by the newly restored Basilica on her way home. A warm smile grew on her lips as she held the basket full of fresh vegetables tighter.  "Good as new, it seems. How wonderful!" She mused, turning down the alleyway shortcut home.

As Cardinal Francis enters the restored Basilica, he gazes up in awe. A bright smile forms upon the aging face of the Cardinal. "It's wonderful to have you back, old friend," he sounds, his voice echoing around the Cathedral's vaulted ceiling.
