PETITION AGAINST THE NAME OF THE NEW ORENIAN CITY

‘SAINT JAMES’

There is already a city named with the structure 'Saint X' in Almaris: the Savoyard’s San Luciano. It is a good thing to revere those of Saintly piety, but to do so in an exact parallel to a greatly dissimilar neighbor not only insults Savoyards, but insults our subjects, who are as alike to Savoyards as mice are to chickens. The tradition of Oren would venerate men and women with a portmanteau such as Johannesburg and Adelburg. Additional examples are the Pertinaxi Carolustadt, Senntisten and the singular Helena. Some suggested alternatives to ‘Saint James’ have been Jameston and Jamesburg, which would go colloquially by ‘The Imperial City of St. James, Jameston/Jamesburg,' etc.

 

Many Orenians also simply dislike the name because it does not roll off the tongue well.

"I don't quite see the issue in having a city named after a Saint, even if another city across the continent is named after another; how people would be insulted over the fact is beyond me.  If someone is truly faithful, why would they take issue in someone else's faith too?"  Moliana asked these questions to herself, as one usually does in a situation like this where dozens of folk across Almaris start having conversations in their head.

 

"If they would wish for it to have a better ring to it, a more grandiose name fitting for a capital city - or a Saint that they think is more fitting for the role, why not make honest suggestions of your own rather than trying to form a crowd to pose against what's been thought of?"

OOC: This may be because I live under a rock IRL and hardly follow a lot of news stories, though I feel like it's a weird stretch/claim to make that a city was purposefully named after something from Epstein.  City seems like its named after Viros' character, whose been doing a lot to help around from my understanding

To whom it may concern,

His Imperial Majesty holds frequent, dedicated times for petitioners to step forth at the conclusion of every session of Imperial Court. Rabble-rousing and such displays of public discontent will not bring about any change and may in fact be seen as disrespectful and against Imperial codes of conduct expected of all right-minded citizens. Our beloved Empire is not a democracy, and His Imperial Majesty is not required to hear our complaints, yet he does. Bring these woes to a session of Imperial Court rather than silently pen your name to a brazen display of disrespect for His Imperial Majesty and the architects who have so diligently applied themselves to the design of our new city, Saint James.
