In my opinion, because of the server load and the fact that it kills mob spawning and breeding, I think adding an admin shop for animal goods would be helpful. Where you can buy white wool, ink sacs, leather, rabbit skin, eggs, things that are generally difficult to get when the server is on high population and it bottleneck the animal spawns.

Yes, I generally frown upon the minas voting scheme but there's little alternative.

What systems, past or new, do you think could work for mina generation?

Mob Drops are generally the best as it requires an investment of gear to get going, simultaneously generating minas wealth while depleting iron stockpiles that would otherwise collect dust and suppress prices.

What concerns do you have with voting, or other forms of mina generation?

Voting lacks much RP logic and often sees players amass fortunes over the longevity of a map, however it is somewhat required to both incentivize voting and to give players some pocket change. My ideal is mob drops as the major generation of minas, with a little stipend from voting so regular players have some purchasing power.

Remember the caravan system from atlas? yeah please bring that back, we need caravan rp again and it's a good way to get mina.

Whatever option the Admin team ends up going with I hope there will be a cap put on how many minaes you can earn a day. Don't turn this into Hypixel Skyblock.

LATE POST:

The Mina market absolutely needs to hinge itself upon the voting system. It provides LOTC with advertisement, no matter how small, and it is a consistent money source for new players / new personas. The more you vote the greater the reward, especially with regards to the secondary reward offers such as Soulstone Slots, Renames, ETC. As has been seen in the past, it doesn't matter how much voting provides - the market will scale based on the amount you earn per day.

The problem with Mina is that, towards end map, it becomes so inflated that it becomes worthless. Further, the only reason one would need to farm Mina is to pay for pastes, tiles, bankers and other settlement related needs. The lone player has no use for Mina because it has no value to the individual merchant! Including more systems to acquire Mina will only cause it to inflate more, given that the current mina sinks benefit only governments rather than players.

What LOTC really needs is a varied Mina Sink that can appeal to different types of players. IMO the best way to get rid of the influx of Mina is to offer rare materials and items in exchange for large sum of mina. Not only would this delete the excess Mina to stall inflation, but it would also directly tie Mina's worth to usable, lore-backed items. Further, this would enable more players to interact with the market because, as of current, those with valuable items want trades rather than Mina. By having a server-backed means of acquiring high demand resources, players can exchange mina for these goods, which can then either be traded or used directly. This would also provide a degree of player safety from being scammed and could even replace the terrible node system that we currently have (IK you bandits want conflict). Given that Mina inflation would be curbed, the rate of producing these rare items would be low given that 5k or so would be need to be spent with each purchase.

we need a mina sink instead of more mina - theres already so many ways of getting mina irp "Run Bar" "Get rare Ore" etcetera.

In all honestly I’m not someone who is crazy about mina. If I have it I have it if I don’t I’ll go and try to get it. In my mind making a really complicated mina earning system just adds unneeded stress. As a broke college kid already I’d rather not have to deal with being broke on mineman at the same time. If anything like others said, figuring out some plugins that could be more interesting in regards to getting mina like limited resources or how @WestCarolina brought up the food expiration plug-in. Something that is more rewarding and worth the “struggle”.

maybe no mystery tax on the mina. having hundreds of mina drained from your bank after inactivity is just silly.

bring back auction house.

At LEAST bring back something like the vortex bears and boars. Some simple PVE thing players can do at any given time for a little reward that you can exchange for minas at shop locations.

Don’t even make the trade in shop a CT thing, something like fur trading posts randomly placed around here or there with an NPC where you sell the items would be nice.
- Yes, it is a roleplay server but communities can easily add roleplay to PVE, and people have liked PVE events anyway

- Another upside is it gives people yet more reasons to get out in the world and explore besides holing up in a nation which will be nice when activity checks cease to exist how they do now.

Also on the “hunting” node idea, make nodes where cows, sheep, and chickens spawn more often or just animals in general for the materials that they drop.

You could also add in the ability to trade in resources like wood for minas at locations like a “trading post” idea

- I don’t see an issue in a small grinding aspect like what we already have for materials for PVP gear or building blocks. And when it comes to mina it’d be nice to have the ability to sell some of those materials just because you can

On the Auction House that’s both hated and loved depending on who you ask:

- Nations should run their own rp auctions instead of an auction house. Want to sell your beloved money making green tag item? Black market rp or something

The idea of being able to get small bits of some materials like ST minerals (if that’s what you mean) would also help with the idea of people being able to camp nodes to hell n’ back again so its incredibly hard for players that arn’t in certain groups to obtain them.

Simply just make it so the ST node turnout is more rewarding while having a more drawn out system to use minas to obtain pieces or something similar sounds quite interesting.

Abandon the mina system and let players figure out a physical currency to barter with. Let voting mina be converted to a small selection of materials (iron, gold, etc). If you want to control for the amount of currently available physical currency, limit the amounts mined in the mine world/overworld, depending on how you're running it.

Any attempt at a real economy is just going to be another flip to players complaining that this shit is too hard, that they hop on to roleplay and not to grind, etc etc. Minecraft is a resource abundant game, so the effort to instill "realism" will also change how people interact with the game in a noticeably negative way. Just model the economy towards behaviors that are conducive to roleplay. If you're transferring tons of iron as a payment from city to city, for instance, have it so that a large amount at one time weighs down the player and requires a mule/military escort. Set up opportunities for bandit ambushes.

I dunno. I think the huge problem is that voting for the server is such an essential activity that there may never be enough of a mina sink to counter it. At the least, physical currency can be easily forgotten about, robbed, or despawned after death. Certainly more so if you stop propping up currency with an NPC banking system that is artificially secure.

We've been at this for many, many years. Too little results by playing things too carefully. Just go wacky and see if you can make something work in the spirit of making conducive roleplay.

Whilst I voted yes, making minae is not the problem.

I only make money by selling steak, porkchops and iron/gold blocks at my stall for like 0.1 minae and that's only because it's what people need and they won't buy it for a single decimal point more, and by voting and trust me that makes me and my rp family more money than we know what to do with.

We only save up minae to pay taxes and paste in shit for our nobility tile. There's nothing to spend it on because everything for sale is trash that shop owners won't even bother to engage in rp to sell it to you. (I ALWAYS buy from actual roleplay sellers, no matter the item, if only to encourage good behaviour and as thanks for giving me roleplay)

Making minae is piss easy, if you do genuine rp you WILL make mountains of cash. The problem is finding things to spend it on, which is sweet nothing. There is literally nothing for you to put your money towards unless you're nobility or super generous.
