It was supposed to be a normal day, a festive one at that, in the Principality of Talarnor. Of course, there were always risks of attack, but everyone thought the glistening skyline of a city to be impenetrable. That was, until it was done. Yet no one had expected it to be the midget menace…

The Death of Eyvind Kvitravn II

His youth had been marred by war, by those of the Orenian Empire who sought world domination, to end with the Dwedmar, who his people had once called “comrades in arms.” Many times, Norland had risen and fallen from grace, thus he was whisked off into the Far North to grow into a man, where many young ones had never made it to. Eyvind knew of the plight of his nation and its growing isolation. Yet, it was only after he had grown and accepted an invitation from his brother, Dominic, had he realized that Norland was alone. That would be the theme he would find himself in for the first few months after arriving in the new capital of the nation.

Alisgrad, the Phoenix Forged City. Where the ashes of the disgraced Kingdom could finally start to be melded and hammered into something new, something great. A man could go there, a bastard and nameless, and become immortalized for deeds great and small. Eyvind went there with nothing but a brother and legacy to try and uphold. Not many moons had passed, but he had already established himself as a capable soldier. Many of the Ashguard respected him, but that wasn’t saying much as there were so few. A peaceful nation needed not the huge armies of the South, but more needed for a show of unity and a way for men to make a living. After establishing himself, his brother came to him in the dead of night, bearing news that would change the freshly minted soldier’s life.

“The Adunians of Cartref Mor are planning an uprising against the crown.” The words hit him like a horse bucking him off into a brick wall. Some drinks later, he went off to find them, where they declared war against the Kingdom after firing upon members of the King Council. Later, they rode back once they heard of the capture of High Keeper Grigori.

Then, The Battle of Cartref Mor. He braved the arrows and found a weak spot in the defense, calling to the Freysson loyalists, “Forward lads!” Him and his brother climbed the walls, quickly followed by the force. After finding yet another way into the keep, they stormed it. A massacre ensued, where every Adunian loyalist they could find was killed, with High Keeper Grigori being rescued. Eyvind was commended for the battle, slaying many of the Adunians himself. Their swords bounced off of him, coming off with almost no injuries. With minimal Norlandic casualties, his brother retorted to him, “It’s almost as if you are made of iron.”

Things then settled down from there. Life went back to normal. With that, he took his retirement and went back to the Far North. He rebuilt his cabin, only talking to his brother when he visited, and never again went back to Norland. That was, until she came.

Hilda was her name. He had gone fishing, and was venturing back to his cabin when he saw her frozen in the snow. He hesitated, but brought her along. He may have been made a monster by war, but he wasn’t cold hearted. He raised her the best he could, bringing her up with knowledge of wildlife and warfare, until she remembered her name, and his face dropped. She was a Freysson. He rushed to the capital, though was panicked when he saw it in flames and dark elements roaming. He quickl;y retreated with her to the stronghold of Savoy, where she finally met her kin.

It was okay again. After the Failor War, which lasted very shortly, they settled in Solheim. Everything was nice. He attended the coronation, watched her grow up into everything he had always dreamed for her. Nothing could go wrong, until everything did. An incident turned international, with the comrades of the Dwedmar turning against Norland in the blink of an eye. Eyvind knew what had to be done, thus he rallied his sword, until he fell sick for a year and a half. Upon his return, he went to attend a feast of friendship. Little did the veteran know, a joyous day would be his last.

The Dwedmar showed in numbers, breaking through the gates of the High Elven city. The infrastructure was strong, but not easily changed to be defendable. The Royal Families of both Norland and Talarnor hid, as Eyvind went to stand his ground. Though when the time came, the guards of both companies fled, leaving him alone to face off against the Frostbeards. The Frostbeards were honorable, and instead of jumping him in mass, they offered an honorable duel. One versus two. Eyvind stood up, and immediately went into the fight. Sadly, his old body failed him, and he was slain by the two dwarves. One of them was honorable enough to give him a clean death, whilst the other savagely marred his body via decapitation.

Thus was the end of Eyvind the Ironborn, Hero of Cartref Mor.

Spoiler

It's been a ride. This has been one of my coolest characters development wise and action wise. Norland has been so great, and I have no words to describe how much development I've had in short amounts of time on this character. Thank you to @Javert @ichigomaster98@AnonymousAlexa for making this character memorable. And thank you to @fluffycopfor giving this character the ending he deserved. This is getting too long, but thanks!

Hilda rest wearily in her bed, exhausted and worn from the series of battles she had fought that Ashen Day alone. The abrupt arrival of a courier awoke her from her moment of respite. With a shaky hand, she unfurled the letter delivering the tragic news: Eyvind had not made it out alive. "Why him?" was all she could manage to choke out, through the sobs that followed.

Dagius knows Norland needs him, even if they disagreed on a lot of things, they still took him in. "Dad would have wanted me to stay." He sighed and walked back towards Norland

Loys remembered meeting Eyvind when he was sworn in as a full-blooded member of the clan. The one thing he noticed of Eyvind was the distance & silence he created. From that point on the two didn't speak often given this distance, but.. Eyvind was still a Kvitravn. This had been the second relative to die, and in such a short time it seemed.

He wept for the elder of his clan within his chamber, and he prayed that it wouldn't awaken his young babe.

Andrei curled up in his bed in Haense... teary eyed at the news he had poured a drink out to the man, one for himself, one shot of spirits untouched on the nightstand

"To a man I did not know well, but a loss to me nonetheless. Cheers Ironborn."

Dominic Kvitravn sighed as he heard the news of his younger Brother's death. He reflected on all they had been through together - their Father's death, the Cartref Mor Uprising, the founding of Ravnhamlet, the raising of their respective families, all of it played back in his mind. He thought back to when they were both just kids living in their Father's Cabin and he silently wished he could relive those moments again.

Still donning his Helmet, Dominic put his head in his hands and wept for the passing of his younger Brother.
