Concerning THE SOUTHERN PILGRIMAGE of 1937
 

 

 

TO THE CITIZENS OF THE PETRA,

 

I write this to you today not in my capacity as Archduchess, but as a child of GOD. A sinner who has led a flawed life, one full of regret and strife.

 

It is no secret that I am a flawed woman, and that I have made many mistakes over the years. I inherited the title of Archduchess when I had just barely celebrated my thirteenth summer. The responsibility laden upon me at such an early age and the frivolities of my youth led me into sin. It is for those past mistakes that I have sought penance from the Holy Mother Church, that I might receive a renewed mandate and be reborn as the ruler of a proud and prosperous realm.

 

And thus, at the behest of the Holy Mother Church, I walked to the sea. Clothed in rags and bearing a metallic ball symbolic of my spiritual burden, I traveled on pilgrimage from Vallagne to the southern coast that I might seek my redemption, to wash away the mistakes of the past to be reborn anew under the watchful gaze of my people. 

 

You too have walked with me, watching as I humbled myself in the sight of GOD and became one with the mud of the earth from which we came. For as I am a servant unto GOD, I am also a servant unto the Commonwealth and unto my people.

 

What we have built over the last decade, we have built together with common purpose. While a gazelle may be able to run from the moment it is born, the sons and daughters of Horen must first learn how to walk. The Petran people have overcome the odds to arise from the ashes of the Phoenix Cycle and build something new for ourselves. We have risen from the calamity of the Petran Civil War to become a bastion of prosperity in the Meadowlands, and a pillar of stability within the Heartlands.

 

Now born again, I shall take up the mantle of Queen of the Petra as I rise from these waters. I will be anointed as such by our Holy Father, the High Pontiff, to reflect our growth as both a realm and as a people. Like a shepherd, I shall defend them. And like a lioness, I shall provide for them. I shall carry Owyn’s Flame in my heart and support the Holy Mother Church when called to do so, in word, in deed, and if need be by the sword as GOD commands me.

 

This road has been long, but it is not yet over. I look forward to walking this path for many years to come, hand in hand with the people of the Commonwealth.

"Let's go Renilde!" A red-headed Norlander cheered for her fellow red-head.

 

"Oh Albert. Your mother became a queen!" Elaine Novellen d'Petra said to her husband, Albert.

 

Ceceliya Halcourt was proud to serve her queen.

The Queen's goddaughter smiled brightly at the missive from where she sat between her mother and godmother.

Dame Catherine of Furnestock smiled as she gazed down from the Seven Skies above. A single tear of happiness streamed down her right cheek, which she simply wiped away.

 

"I knew that you would choose to be a lioness," She muttered, before returning to eternal bliss.

The Lord Chamberlaine grinned upon the news of his realm’s success. “You’ve done well, Your Majesty..”

Calla von Theonus read the missive from the Theonus Keep, sipping on her tea while her 4 children play loudly around her. "Wonderful news! I'm so happy for Renilde, perhaps we should invite her for tea sometime." She hummed to herself, head snapping up as Aster and Sorrel von Theonus fought over a toy and Lillian von Theonus played with her bug collection. "On second thought, perhaps when the children are older..."

Philip Tiberian read the missive as he warmly smile at his friend from the far East getting recognized for her worth. The former Riverguard Marshal draws out his quill as he wrote a short letter for the now Queen of Petra.

The letter is returned posthaste to Sir Philip Tiberian of Stassion, it being delivered by a young blond man who expected compensation for his deed - and wouldn't relinquish the letter until he was paid as such! The letter was much less formal than the noble knight's, yet held an air of familiarity befitting a good friend more than a former colleague.

Though your time on my River Council was far too brief, the impact you made in kickstarting the Riverguard was a tremendous. You left the military in good hands, and not a complaint has been said about the way you departed; the office was neat and the paperwork was done and filed. I thank you for your commendations, them being incredibly humbling each time I think of what I've overcome in this life, and during my reign. 

 

I hope to see you again soon, my friend. Be sure to venture out of that castle atop Fredericksburg every now and again to visit your old friend Renilde. You've my respect for life.
