In the ever-evolving landscape of Heartlander politics, the recent retirement of Lord Chancellor Frantzisko has ushered in a new era, with the popular and young Louis-Caspian de Rosius stepping into the formidable role. However, his selection of Friedrich von Augusten as his new Vice–Chancellor, has raised more than a few well-groomed eyebrows.

Friedrich von Augusten, leader of the Petra vassal of Hohengarten, finds himself loud in his own personal convictions, and thus makes sure that others will listen with a wanting or unwilling ear. This rather forward way of presentation has made Friedrich find himself at odds with Queen Adalia I following his controversial alignment with Aaun a few years ago; this alliance was an attempt to force her hand into war against the Coastal Coalition, a scheme hatched by King Charles II, alongside the enigmatic Mister Tiber and the ever-plotting Lord Chamberlain John Valentinus. Their less-than-clandestine conversations, a staple at that year’s Heartlandic social gatherings, including one in celebration of Friedrich’s own son, were heard by many, sparking rumors and whispers that have yet to fade after all this time. While Queen Adalia was quick to handle the turmoil with a public missive, turbulence remains to be navigated within the Heartlander Council.

Yet, this is not the only cause for concern. Lord Chancellor Louis-Caspian de Rosius has also called for the nomination of Konstantin Leon von Augusten, known mostly for his time in the Legion of Saint Godwin as a soldier, as the Grand Speaker of the Garmont Assembly, following the retirement of Lord Atticus Reinhold. This move side steps Mister Theodore Elwood, a seasoned deputy with a decade of experience and service under Lord Reinhold’s capable guidance, and raises questions about nepotism versus meritocracy within the government's highest ranks. The reasons behind this nomination are as transparent as they are troubling: Lord Chancellor de Rosius appears to be stacking the deck in favor of his soon-to-be family.

The engagement of Louis-Caspian to Lady Elsie von Augusten reeks of a calculated move to consolidate power within the Heartlands; by securing influential positions for the aforementioned von Augusten gentlemen, de Rosius is ensuring their loyalty and cementing his own standing. Is he doing this to impress his future in-laws, demonstrating that he can provide for his lady-wife's family? Or is this a ploy to ingratiate himself with the Aaunic overlords, securing votes and support to further their agenda within our government?

The irony is palpable: the von Augustens, ousted by the very Aaunites they now ally with, are being positioned as pawns in a political game that aims to spite Petra. It is a short-sighted strategy, one that may ultimately backfire and damage the integrity of the Heartlands.

It seems a curious case of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face, if you ask this humble author.

In the wake of Chancellor Frantzisko's retirement and the ascension of Lord Louis-Caspian de Rosius, the Heartlands stand at a crossroads; the decisions made in these pivotal moments will shape our future profoundly. While we hope for smooth leadership under Lord Chancellor de Rosius, the concerns surrounding his nepotistic appointments cannot be ignored any longer. It is imperative that our Heartlandic monarchs act swiftly and decisively to ensure that the integrity of our governance – ultimately, their governance – remains intact. Let us look to them, fellow Heartlanders, to uphold the principles of fairness and meritocracy that are essential to the prosperity and harmony of our beloved realm.

May the quills of justice write swiftly, and may the ink of integrity never run dry.

Yours in eternal intrigue,

Esfir, cousin to the House of von Augusten and all too familiar with life-ruining rumors, shreds the missive that was delivered to her. "To think they have the right to slander my cousins? Absolutely niet!" And at once, the Amador set off to the Heartlands.

"Nepotistic? That would mean that every choice made by any Chancellor for his Vice-Chancellor could be deemed nepotistic given that every House within the Aaunic and Petran Province shares a great-great or great-great-great grandfather or grandmother, one way or the other.." Albert-Goulielmos Dieuxmont de Rosius stated, scratching the back of his head.

The legionnaire goblin having gotten the missive at a social gathering, points at the John Valentinus name "Izi did treazonouz tingz agh wuz given ahn COUNTY! Agh now MAGH inner-politiking? Da leaderz aught to flatten or exile doez who do tingz like thiz to keep da otherz ihn line! Da Zhara zure value grizh over deedz!" he talks very loudly to others at the Adalia I's party, to anyone who cares to hear.

Theodosya von Augusten, wife to Friedrich and mother to Konstantin, let out an array of laughter upon reading the missive.

"Is it so terrible that they are fit for the job?"
her aging hands whipped out her paper fan, batting at her face with a sense of ease. "Perhaps ea was too harsh to Lord Louis-Caspian. . . ea shall invite him over at once!"

Konstantin II, the mentioned nepotism-choice for Grand Speaker, wondered where the author got their news, for it was not Lord Louis-Caspian who nominated him at the Garmont Assembly. Konny's first thought reading the panplet was one of scaredness, as he finished reading the last word, he silently vowed to do everything in his power to not let rumors befall his house, as they did during his grandfather's rule of Konstantin I.

"What nonsense is to be spewed this time?HEDWIG OF WARSOVIA asked out loud, reading the papers far from home. Even here did her couriers make her known of her stately affairs; both factual, or not. "To even assume that we, the Aaunic Crown, are plotting some superior agenda as if I have not made my life's work to unite our realms since the merge my royal father-in-law birthed. Bah!" She threw the pages into the fire, crumpling in ash.

"Albert, haven't you heard what our mère once said?"

 Louis-Caspian, the Lord Chancellor mentioned in the quill would exclaim towards his younger brother, Albert-Goulielmos in a joyous manner, his voice calm just like his facial expression while scanning the details of the parchment briefly as he quotes;

"Most of the trouble in this world has been caused by folks who can't mind their own business... because they have no business of their own to mind, any more than a smallpox virus has. But, if they so wish to have an oversight over mon business, then they should be equipped with facts, next time."

"I urge you not to bother your young mind about this. Let us go into the vineyards, hm?
"

Dame Rowena read the missive, shaking her head as it got worse and worse.

"I pray this is not true... we cannot see the realm torn apart. If it is true, we will have problems."

She sighed, putting the missive down and going back to her various meetings.

Alicia Alstion, wife to the Lord Chamberlain John Valentinus, scoffed at the false accusations brought upon her husband and brother-in-law. "They write to stir the pot, not for factual information." She murmured to herself.

Sir Karol Walewski narrowed his eyes at the missive. “Claims like this made without proof steer dangerously close to Slander.”

Emilio Varoche peered upon the missive, swiping a roach off of it as he did so before seeing it's vile lies in regards to his grand-nephew, a gutteral almost insectoid scream erupted from his mouth in rage, "They-a dare profane my grand-nephews name!? If-a I ever find you cowardice Bel Aurum-a, I shall-a pry thy eyes out and burn your fingers to dust-a!"
