hello! i've seen other people do this, figured i would do so as well!

as of today it has been exactly one year since i was whitelisted, and it's been a rollercoaster since. special thanks to folks like @Destructokeith@Zaerie@carebear@frenchfrogss@PlutoPhobia@Lapidary@ScoutTheWitch@Tremerus@tilly@Apricette@Rhettthecoldone@tezzaract@StingyParrot@Cheese @LordMJOand so, so so many more (who's forum tags i can't find) who have made my experience on this server a million times better each and every day. you guys, and more widely the entire communities of petra and hohkmat have made me feel accepted, appreciated, and given me so many laughs.

special thanks to @mothstheticwho got me on this ride in the first place, who encouraged me to be confident, and who i love very much

i don't have much more to say, but feel free to ask questions if you've got any!

My question to you would be - how do you think LOTC compares to the other roleplay mediums we've participated in previously? What are its strengths and weaknesses in comparison to them? Is there anything from one medium you wish could be incorporated in the other?

good question! if i had to make one huge change to this server, it would probably be making consented roleplay standard (aka, the ability to just deny a roleplay interaction for any reason). it’s the standard basically everywhere else, and i think lotc would benefit from it too. that said, the culture around lotc currently is very much ingrained around this not being the case, so i see why it would be a difficult transition as well. i think it would help make things be a little more about story, and a little less about groups butting heads. but that’s just my personal opinion, i’m not gonna say it’s objectively right or anything, or deny it would be difficult to implement at this stage

 

i think i’d rather be an average person 500 years from now, i would somehow stumble into death very fast in 1524 royalty or not

i would think one of the things lotc has over other RP mediums we’ve been in is how insanely and wonderfully spontaneous it can be! one of the things i’ve always loved most about lotc is that, due to its size, you never really know who you’re gonna run into or what you might stumble into. it’s very authentic and cool in that way, early on especially it allowed a very immersive experience for me of exploring the world. in other RP mediums things are usually more preordained and you know well who you’re working with, which can definitely be a good thing for a multitude of other reasons as well, but there is a unique benefit to how sandbox-y such a big server can be.

 

on the other hand how huge lotc is can also have downsides, and like i said in my other reply i think if consented roleplay was incorporated into lotc like it is in all other RP mediums, it would ultimately be for the better

okay, question time, and this is pretty specific: how different do you think atticus would be as a character to write had he successfully joined the church, rather than being picked up by mages? do you think he would be a very different person, or do you think he would be fundamentally the same, save for obvious differences?

congrats on your one year. i haven’t been around very long either, my 3 years passed last june, but i’m so so glad i met you!!! you’re such a great roleplayer and a great figure in Petra’s community.

i think being made to roleplay in minecraft has made my writing a LOT more concise, which can be a good thing! i’m generally known for maybe overly-long prose, so being forced to get my point across in a limited number of characters has been a trial by fire for improving my writing in that sense. i think how i write inside of LOTC and outside of LOTC remains very different, so i wouldn’t say it’s changed my overall roleplaying style much beyond that, but i have enjoyed getting to mess around in a more shortform medium

 

i think i’m always gonna look back fondly on my very early months on the server, where everything was new to me and i had a lot of fun just exploring! in terms of specific moments, there’s definitely a good range. i think i’m always gonna love the time atticus got ‘napped by an evil mage and their followers, that was some really fun RP, as well as just the various moments of character development with his family and friends that i’ve gotten to build upon piece by piece over time

im so sorry nescaffier i shall not make the mistake again (genuinely, you were also a very positive influence on my lotc experience so thank you for that :D)

i do actually think about this one a lot! i think his guilt issues would be a little better but his emotional repression would be a million times worse, if i had to throw out a vague guess. but honestly lotc is so unpredictable that it’s hard to say how it would have changed him/how it would have gone without actually playing through it, as it’s hard to say what specific influences he may have ended up under. atticus as a character is very much a product of his environment, which is funny because he is of the firm belief that this is not the case

you’re too nice to me thank you :,) the kindness and welcoming you and the rest of theonus offered me as a new player will always stick with me, and you’ve been an amazing friend ever since, i’m really glad i met you too!!!

 

i think aevos’ overall socioeconomic status is good because it’s surprisingly easy to climb the ranks of economic class and also i’m a cheeseburger guy (i don’t know anything about economics)

Honestly the quality of your roleplay made me think that you'd been around for years and years and years when we had our first interaction - I learned quite a bit just from reading your emotes. 
My question for you is:
What got you into LOTC? Did you find it by chance, or was it recomended to you?

awww thank you so much!!! i have been writing for a long time, just not on lotc, and i’m happy to hear you’ve enjoyed them :D your emotes are incredible as well and i’ve had so much fun writing with you these past months

 

and i actually got into lotc through moth! they started playing on the server a month or two before me, and were talking to me around this time last year about their new character (wilford) and how excited they were about playing him, and how fun the server was. they also told me about an npc character in wilford’s backstory who i found interesting, so i asked if i could pick him up as my own character if i decided to join the server. this is how i ended up with atticus! i did end up getting convinced to make a whitelist application, and the rest is history
