On Conflicts of Interest

While vague and brutal in a way, I think that this is an important step to make to reduce issues that have been seen in the past with staff members using their influence and pex as a staff member to their nation's benefit. That being said, I think that it needs to go further to flat out reject Story Team and Community Team members as well. Certain people being exempted due to being admin favourites goes against the whole point of reducing conflict of interest, and these sorts of people would likely have even more influence to leverage if they were being granted an exemption to begin with. Story Team and Community Team are like the #1 teams you wouldn't want involved in nation leaderships. There is already backlash against ST who use the benefit of their pex for their friends, why should we allow them to use it for nations they help lead? Likewise with Community Team members who help with onboarding who may guide players towards nations they are involved with. No mercy for the staff teams, if staff members complain about it limiting them then you know it's doing a good job. A staff member's job isn't to assist in leading nations, it's to make sure that rules and systems are being applied fairly and equally regardless of what subcommunity they're apart of. If they want to be in a position of leadership, they should step down from a team that is inherently a conflict of interest or vice versa. I don't want to see another post about a staff member abusing their pex to see if their servants for court RP are active. There are plenty of more humbling roleplayers willing to be serfs volunteers for staff teams.

Came here to say this.

Every staff role has the ability to be abused and the history of lotc shows that people can't be trusted. Yes that's generalising and throwing everyone under the "you can't be trusted" banner, but thank the people who have abused their positions before you.

(You not meaning you, crevel.)

metaplay enforcement is a complete and utter joke when the admins are acting as nation leaders and messaging other NLs OOCly and pushing "proposals." This is the exact kind of behavior you all specifically outlined as metaplay!

What kind of message does it send to the community when admins are freely engaging in what they ban players for, only acknowledging it once they've been caught? You all praised hogo for stepping down when he found out he was in proximity to metaplay, where's that energy for the admin actively committing it?

I think I covered this in the context I gave, give it a full read if you haven't already as well as the spoiler with Kaiser's message. I was not trying to push a specific RP proposal OOCly, I was attempting to gain clarity on what the mechanical outcome would be under a certain RP scenario. The core issue here is the conflict of interest that I was in having both the RP position where I was acting on behalf of the realm, and control over the team that makes the decisions over realms.

This policy update is so long overdue, and I at least appreciate the effort to put it out there.

My question is that to what extent is someone considered a leader of a nation/realm? I could see the argument of a council of people falling under that thought, but at what point is the line drawn? There's always the argument that there could be a staff member that offers legit and authentic non-biased advise to a nation leader-- is that considered against the rules, and by proxy is that NL guilty by association?

I think these policies should be fleshed out more than just a sentence or two, so players are not wondering what is against the rules and what's not.

Make it all freebuild, and then we don't have regions to discuss OOCly 😈

Just make sure it doesn't happen again gang

Yeeaaah, i've always found Staff being in leadership to be odd. It creates a power imbalance within & between nations, weather or not it is your intention - you having a blue, red, orange or green name has people interacting with you differently. TBH half the reason i've been putting off being an ST.

So while it feels like this rule came late, i'm glad it finally has come.

When it comes to government positions - I COULD see a staff member being a Steward or Military head or one of those positions which deal with more within nation stuff & holds little to no power in diplomacy.

6 bans, entire community leaving, haelunor vassalizing, A man obsessed with a nation putting his heart on the line to admit fault but doesn’t accept the same repercussions?

The ball keeps rolling down sisyphus, you will never reach the top. You haven’t suffered enough.

Moderation removed me for immaturity but has had so many people demoted and blacklisted for worse recently and I gotta say like it’s super funny to me watching with a bucket of popcorn as you make things worse instead of better by thinking of self preservation over what should’ve been a priority which is setting a standard and holding urself to the same expectations as a player. Give yourself metaplay ban, enjoy the break. I say that sincerely, put Greehn in charge and let yourself breath.

What happens when a Story Team member creates prophecies and multiple powerful/meaningful ST objects and MArts for a realm that they happen to be the heir to? Seems kinda biased

Um actually anyone can be a demi djinn . It's a very open CA with plenty of users. It's player accessible means

It's more than one community that's left over the past 7-9 months. One thing is for certain though, the ball will keep rolling
