I never joined this server over a year ago hoping to PVP.

I know, I know. :/ It's been said many-a-time. Sadly, a server which has powrgamers (which I could've sworn they agreed not to powergame on their whitelist application), lead others to turn their face away from rp fighting and go with PvP, some people have really weak mindsets and cannot bend over to lose or wake up to their loss. Sooo... PvP changes everything... And... ACTUALLY helps... I really hate myself for saying it... PvP as a default combat setting is seriously the only way to sort out the server's issues.

 

It's a bloody saddening thought, really.

With the current difference between RP fight wishers and PvP fight wishers currently at .76%, with the PvP wishers in the lead, we should seriously consider a compromise. Gaius's system was quite good... if only it received a few votes. 

Since Gaius' system counted for RP-PVP (just PVP default with a few restrictions), PVP is in lead by 61 votes. That's quite something.

You guys can keep saying that. You're just showing how closeminded you are. PVP default leads to more roleplay.

Because spamming a button is more RP than actually RPing. I am not close minded. Due to my financial situation, I am unable to get good hardware, and I lose in PvP because of it. And if clicking away with a sword is more interesting to you than actually RPing, I am astonished.

I would actually vote for Gaius system, but I have to vote for rp, because between pvp and rp, I perfer rp, and gaius system is not going to win, so I have to help rp, since I don't want pvp.

Okay-

RedPK, DarkJames, Relgard and Demonxerov2. If you have nothing new to add then please move on, you 4 are just throwing the same arguments out and bickering... this is a thread to learn what the community wants, not who can shout the loudest longest. We understand your views and ask that you let others voice their opinion without being beaten into the earth for having a different view. 

 

If you continue to post without adding new ideas/perspectives to this thread I will issue warnings.

Rhia, tell me. What is wrong with having a harmless debate? Where a debate between players will help future players in deciding the upcoming fate of this server? It really hurts where certain players cannot voice their concerns and refute statements, which is typical in an intelligent debate.

It's not a debate when players are just saying "OMG GO TO PVP SERVER THIS IS RP" over and over again.

Then keep players from saying those, not others who are trying to have a little civil discussion.

It becomes an issue when someone posts an opinion and everyone opposing jumps on them or when their posts become snide and completely unhelpful. If they can't act the way they should when posting then they don't get to post. 

 

Im only restricting players that have spammed their opinion 1,000 times.

I've been on the server for over two years so I believe my input has some weight.

 

Most of you guys have never seen Aegis. To you, a war is a complex warclaim system, not a spur-of-the-moment skirmish.

 

Only a few of you will recall the lurking fear you felt when travelling down the Kings Road with an inventory full of diamonds, hoping, praying even, that bandits wouldn't show up. 

 

You staunch non-pvpers act as if there was no RP in Aegis (where PVP was the default way of handling conflict). I would argue that there was much more. Five, maybe ten, minutes of roleplay then a short battle to decide who lives. Pure RP with very little OOC involved. Now, we have Five to ten minutes of roleplay, followed by thirty minutes of RP-combat, metagaming, OOC bickering, and ban reporting. 

 

I have been a staunch RP>PVP believer since day one and I voted for PVP because I know, in the end, it will be better for the server. Less bickering, less ban reports, more fun.

Last time I'll be posting here, but allow me to just list a few of my problems, so that perhaps someone can present me with a counter-argument to them, so that I may be slightly less bothered by the idea of PVP default.

 

-How do we factor in the skill of a character with PVP? It is simply not realistic for a novice 17 year old swordsman to beat a highly trained and experienced knight, even if the person is OOCly a better PVP'r.

-Isn't it unfair for people who can't afford good hardware? I used to only use a trackpad, and it made PVP impossible.

-Won't it be abused? I can easily see bandits doing a single emote to signal PVP, and then beating the poor sod to death without real rp. Although this won't be the majority, it will happen.

-How will this cause less conflict? I can't imagine that people /won't/ get mad about losing all of their stuff. Some people will always be 'victims'.

 

If there is a PVP system, I would like to see it integrate rolls somehow, to at least make it a bit more fair. For example:

 

Player1 rolls 3/20

Player2 rolls 14/20

Player2 hits Player1 3 times.

 

Or something along those lines. I'm not really sure how it would work, I just want it to be fair.

I don't really want to vote for any of the options, as I'm not really sure that I'm fit to make any sort of well formed opinion.  I will however say that I am a very large fan of long role-play fights over Minecraft PvP, more than likely because I'm not very good at that.
