My final thoughts before I go off for the night:

  • This is a roleplay server. If you DON'T /WANT/ to roleplay battles, and instead use mc mechanics then why are you here? Roleplay not PvP...
  • If you feel pressured and that you aren't good enough at roleplay, then LEARN to roleplay because this is a roleplay server.
  • And finally learn to be just damn tolerant and nice.

Obligatory "read the thread" comment. Even in the past few pages, everything you brought up has been addressed.

For your first point, that's just a moot point and doesn't even deserve a response as it has already been responded to by many before me. For your second point, you contradict your third point by encouraging us to be tolerant yet you make a vehement remark about how everyone should be good at role-play. Not everyone who joins has done this for a long time, it's natural for some to be nervous in RP fights, especially when you're essentially browbeaten by some with extremely detailed emotes, or emotes in quick succession.

The problem with RP fights: The standards of quality an RP fight requires has come to the point of people not trying anymore.

I myself first joined LotC quite a while back, in summer/fall 2011 during Aegis. I played for a few weeks, quit until a couple weeks in December 2012, then I went inactive again because of other stuff. I came back a month ago to hopefully stay for good, and being away from roleplay for so long, RP fights have been pretty intimidating for me.

I recall a couple weeks back, I had to go AFK for something, and when I came back 30 seconds later someone had RP killed me. They let me live and fight back, but they just kept coming at me with "Blablabla thrusts his sword straight through you, crippling your arm" and **** like that, and I got the impression that I really didn't have the opportunity to fight back against this person due to their obviously greater skill in emoting and typing, and their attitude of their character being a godlike fighter. It was very distressing for me.

There is quite the trade-off in having PVP instead of RP. It brings new issues forth but also shoves some of the previous issues into that shredding machine in the corner.

IE: You cannot kick male characters there to cripple them, you can only click faster.

IE: The clever tactic of having one person distract the person while the other comes behind with the bastard sword of justice is no longer there.

IE: You cannot make a retaliation to being impaled on a sword in the last second, you will be dead in MC before you can.

IE: You cannot do what I did in Asulon when I grabbed a sword between my hands for a few moments to save someone, only to get slashed across the chest immediately after.

IE: You cannot make sneak attacks with a crossbow as to assassinate the King of Oren during an important political meeting to throw the thing into chaos, giving you time to escape the premises.

I'm not saying that PVP-default will remove these moments completely, but I am saying these beautiful moments will no longer be as common as I would hope. I say this in the fact that I don't have confidence in the community as a whole to take the time to emote a battle and instead to the easier way of just spam clicking thy opponent into submission.

I'm not saying this as a complaint or a pointed phrase but more as a concern for the future of memorable moments in combat RP that can change one's world.

Kind of offtopic but I just realized that may be incorrect. Was it Aegis or Asulon during that time?

Aegis was like May/June (2011) - December (2011)

PvP doesn't include weapon types; one could RPly ask for "Light iron armor" or, a Iron dagger...adn RPly you would charge a lot less for an Iron dagger then an iron broad sword. Yet in MC mechanics both are one and the same.

This is getting changed with Telanir's new plugin.

Amusingly Hunwald, in your own unofficial poll, more people voted RP default than PvP default. And that's without the third option. Don't start saying that more people from PvP default would be voting for the third option here...

That's entirely irrelevant. I voted on the official thread, but not the unofficial one. Since the same amount and group of people didn't vote for both, there's no direct correlation.

Could people stop saying that Gaius' option counts for Default-PvP.

This is not the case for Gaius' option is a mid-way point and plenty of Default-RP have voted for it. Surely, which ever wins will be subject to a second vote between that same option and Gaius' and you will notice that Gaius' will win.

If Default-RP wins the poll, all Default-PvP will vote for Gaius' option.
If Default-PvP wins the poll, all Default-RP will vote for Gaius' option.

Quite simple.

The server will never be Default-PvP because there is only so much mechanics can do. Even with a magic plugin, magic cannot be simulated properly.

Take conjuration for example. Conjuration can be used for combat very proficiently and with great outcomes. You cannot simulate conjuration with mechanics though.

And a last try at convincing that RP-fighting is more detailed. The fact is that it is. I prefer to be able to stand a chance and fight my way through people instead of being clicked to death by someone who has trained PvP to be better. I have watched to video and although it would be great to have in wars, it just doesn't cut it for RP fighting.

Telanir, when I say each hit counts, I'm being much more precise then a successful click on the enemy, even with your plugin. Putting things to be judged by a randomiser and equations just doesn't cut it to simulate RP properly.

Might as well resolve large battles like in those Risk games, rolls and bonus'.
