Nation Mines!

You'd need diamond pickaxes or a plugin to get the obsidian.

That, or Orcs can punch them out.

Halflings wouldn't mind clay actually. Bricks are needed for fireplaces and chimneys of course.

Mhm. What day-lick said.

A good point about the Obsidian, it may make more sense for the Dwarves. But from what I've heard from GMs (I haven't tested it myself), Obsidian in LotC can be mined rather easily and quickly with a mere iron pickaxe, it's not the same as vanilla MC.

I like it, especially since the High Elves will have to deal with the Humans to get the oh-so-precious quartz.   >:)

In regard to Quartz mines... Will you be using actual quartz blocks, rather than netherquartz 'ore'..? Considering how the netherrack edges make it look like pieces of butchered meat.

I would also like to propose gravel pits, simple stone quarries, definately clay and sandstone quarries, sandpits... Maybe some large 'scavengeable' ruins, which make obtaining mossy bricks, cobble, cracked bricks possible.. Goldmines, mudpits (Soulsand). Glowstone caverns, calcium caves (endstone)..

I could make a case for obtaining other crystal-like rocks, through the use of dyes, or the like..

In regard to 'locating' them.. I don't quite feel the quartz in the human lands. I'd think the humans'd mainly have stone quarries, clay pits, gravel pits, possibly ruins. Other than that, I see humans mainly digging for iron or gold. Possibly 'silver' if it could be made possible.

In the orcish nation, I'd expect to see mudpits, sandpits, gravelpits, sandstone quarries, quartz mines, calcium caves...

The Elves aren't truly miners... Anything beyond basic quarries would be somewhat weird. Though, mudpits, claypits, and possibly glowstone caverns could exist below the forest grounds. Scavengable ruins could also possibly be located here.

The Dwarves should be gettings lotsa kewl rocks and crystals. Obsidian, bloodcrystal (redstone), quartz rock, emeralds, diamonds, iron, gold, glowstone...

Kharajyr would probably fit to have gold and lapis mines below their jungles.. Though, not particulary extensive.

I believe it's mainly about the complexity and size of the mine-works feasible for each race, which should make the difference.

Not as much a 'unique resource' for each race.

Admittedly, it's much easier to just build a different mine for each race with a unique resource.. Though, that does not necessarily mean an economy'd come into existance. Monopolies do not make for a healthy economy.

Can we please never add diamonds back in? That's going to mess with everything. It's a really terrible idea, and I was very glad it had been avoided with iron only on this server.

It's been stated many, many times that diamonds will not be used for armor or weapons.

Somethin' else, but not stabby things.

What would orcs even do with obsidian?

Hit things.

Also, I'd like to note that with these 'Nation mines' you need to keep said Nation's 'technology level' and 'interest regarding mining' in mind.

Dwarves would obviously have more extensive mines than any other nation, and use more advanced technology in regard to mining. Greed has led them to their delving.

Kha's would probably just dive down in jungle crevices, possibly something like 'cenotes' to pick up the lapis deposits close to the surface.

Orcs would have surface-quarries, and make-shift shafts down into the harder rock.

Humans would have many wooden contraptions, meant for making mining an easier/safer task, but, most of their mines'd be small.

I still don't see Elves mining. Their physique just hasn't meant them for it.

Uhm, I'm kinda unsure why Emerald, Obsidian and Lapis would be used in the mines. Emerald has almost no use whatsoever, Obsidian  can be used to build with but its not used often even when everyone on the server had the ability to get it and Lapis, well, it's just for the looks really. Other then that, I'd love to see Quartz be available so I'm all up for that being in a mine.

To be honest...

I really am not a fan of this system. I could care less about cosmetic resources; the idea is nice, but I am far more interested in having MORE iron mines and coal mines. The price of iron is skyrocketing and it needs to drop. This idea of public iron mines is not cutting it for me.

Only one or two iron mines should be in public territory. The other ones should be under the dominion of a nation, and there should be plenty of them.

Example:

Dwarves: The dwarves should have a lot of iron and coal mines; somewhat in the vicinity of 4 of each spread throughout the entire kingdom.

Humans: Humans are pretty populous, and we need a lot of resources. I suggest 3 iron and coal mines in areas where it makes RP sense.

Kaedrin - There's a mountain range, there would be at least some iron!

Furnestock - Same thing

Hanseti - WORLD'S -LARGEST- mountain range. You would think there would be SOME iron

Malinor - Malinor is not as segregated as the other races, so it's not really necessary to have so many iron mines for them. 2 should do it.

Kha - lower playerbase, 1 should be fine.

Orcs - 3 mines, one in the main village and 2 the orcs gotta fight for amongst eachother as they like to do.

Tl;dr I do not want public iron mines, I want national mines. This makes a LOT more RP sense, and will drop the 40 Mina price of iron, making iron not scarce again.

Currently, 2 iron mines does not cut it. You guys need to understand that we do not need 2 iron mines, we need about -10-.

then buy it off the orcs

Halflings buying from the orcs is clearly a match made in heaven  :troll:
