Nation Mines!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone :)

I've been considering the feedback for the current iron mine during the development of the second iron mine, which has come along rather nicely in my personal opinion, but discussion over what will happen after its completion has begun to occur as well. Nation mines will be built, a single mine for each of the 5 major nations (4 main races + Kharajyr), and each mine will have a special ore that is unique to the nation it is located in. For instance, the Kharajyr will have a lapis mine and it will be the only source of naturally obtained lapis in Anthos, which of course does not include obtaining it through trade. However, I believe it is only fair that it is discussed with you guys what each nation mine gets.

Note: Keep in mind that only a select few minerals work properly with the respawn and percent chance system, so things such as clay may not work (though with our awesome tech team we could likely get it to work, but no promises), so keep that in mind when making suggestions. Nothing is set in stone.

Without further ado, here is what the GMs have come up with so far:

Humans - Quartz mine
Elves - Emerald mine
Dwarves - Redstone mine*
Orcs - Obsidian mine**
Kharajyr - Lapis mine

* Because the Dwarves want an economy based on ore, a redstone mine may not cut it. We discussed the possibility of giving the Dwarves two unique mines OR giving them a single, large mine that contains a multitude of various ores. This will of course require extensive discussion, like all things.

** We considered giving the Orcs clay and/or sandstone initially. Clay would be used for bricks, and sandstone would allow for its obtaining without having to clear sheets of sand in the desert. However, as mentioned with the hardships of utilizing clay in the current mining system, obsidian may be a good alternative.

So tell us what you think! Keep in mind that the ultimate decision rests with us, the GMs, as we will do what we believe is best for the server as a whole, not just an individual race. However, we still value your opinions and we would like some creative brainstorming to help us decide what we should do!

Thanks in advance guys :)

What about base resources?

Iron, coal, diamond, all that stuff.

Those would be in the traditional, public mines.

Although I am a bit off-put by an emerald mine, they're rather useless...

We already have a coal and Iron mine, Rittsy is working on the second one now. Diamonds are going to be handled differently this time round.

Typical resources such as coal, iron, gold and diamond will be available in public mines, as they are equally needed between all and are the standards in MC. Thus, they shall be equally available to all, though the higher tiered ores such as gold and diamond may be a bit harder to get to.

You guys forgot gold... Gold for dwarves? It' pretty useless but it's pretty and dwarves love gold

[edit] Ninjed by Alan...

Still, I believe some other ores could be done, like clay, netherrack, soulsand, and so forth.

Clay is very important since clay blocks will be very useful in 1.6, to end the age of wool houses, and make it normal stone colored houses. (stained hardened clay blocks exist in 1.6)

OhOH! The weird antagonist place is filled with netherbrick, maybe they could have a mine as well for that?

Also I forgot glowstone, Glowstone is also very important for building.

An interesting thought Jistuma, it might be interesting to see a mine in the Antagonist World that would be extremely dangerous to get to, not to mention the hazards of the inner mine itself, with netherbrick or another mineral inside. That could be coordinated with Mau5noize and the Antag, certainly. No promises though.

i think the dwarves should have a single large mine because it would make sense rply and people will stop complaining that dwarves are 'out of lore'

Obsidian I think would make more sense for dwarves. I mean they build from it and they live close to it, since they practically live underground. What purpose would the orcs have for it? I mean would they dig that deep for it, rather than going for more valuable things closer to the surface. Unlike Dwarves who as we always know dig too deep.
