THE FAEFOLK COMPENDIUM | VOL. 1
Mamimiux replied to sarahbarah's topic in Northern Geographical Society
Eirene finds a small slip of paper in her dorm at the NGS building. A poorly drawn smiley face and flower are etched into the paper. Attached is a copy of the compendium: faerie dust cake, both the paper and the book. -
OPENING PRAYER Sancta Iulia, uxor Horen, preces tuas benignas nobis concede, Benedicat animas et corda nostra benignitate et pace uberrima. O Deus sancte, Pater omnium in hoc plano, aures nostras sapientia tua in maximis necessitatibus placa. Amen (Common Translation) Saint Julia, wife of Horen, grant us your kind prayers, May she bless our souls and hearts with her abundant kindness and peace. O holy God, Father of all on this plane, please grant our ears with your wisdom in our greatest needs. Amen ୧‿̩͙ ˖︵ ꕀ⠀ ♱⠀ ꕀ ︵˖ ‿̩͙୨ Preface: I, as a vowed monastic sister, wish to further my contribution to the Holy Mother Church and use my monastic vocation to obtain the priesthood so that I might combine the two to continue my work. While Mysticism is associated with wicked-doers and sorcerers, mysticism can be interpreted as a physical manifestation of power and a personal spiritual manifestation. The center of this spiritual power is in the heart. “And I have also breathed life into your heart, and the hearts of your children” (1:5, Scroll of Virtue). We see here that our God granted descendant-kind life through the heart. It is without a doubt that God’s intention was for the heart to become the centre of faith and worship. The importance of the heart continues, “And so I have placed into your hearts the blessings of abundance: the virtuous wealth of the spirit. And as I have given to you this blessing of My Word, you shall also give unto your fellows. For I have placed into your heart a wealth of virtue, and I have created for you a garden of abundance” (2:5-7, Scroll of Virtue). The Scroll of Virtue is one of the shorter scriptures of the Canon, but it mentions the heart six times. God made it evident to Horen when he revealed this knowledge that the heart is the center of worship and virtue. The evidence is within the scroll itself. However, the heart is not incorruptible, as one’s heart is the most vulnerable to mortal sins, “But the evil of Iblees hides in men’s hearts, for all bear the mark of their forebears’ sins” (6:3, Scroll of Gospel). To prevent this, we must not allow ourselves to disconnect from our heart, but become attuned to our own and that of our peers. For the man who ignores the feelings of his brethren is a man who shall find no love. The faithful must fend their heart from the evils of this world, for our hearts are a sacred gift from God. The Canon reinforces my opinion that one's heart is the centre of their divine worship. It is an individual's mystical spirit, something that can not truly be taught or taken. Guidance and teaching are important to the Mother Church, but not everything can be taught. The faithful must answer their questions at times to truly decipher the mysticism that they have within their heart. Yet, the spiritual energies within a believer will be their teacher to the solutions they seek. It is said in the Scroll of Spirit, “Verily, brother, the Lord GOD put many powers into the hearts of men” (7:3, Scroll of Spirit). The address to the Magi in the Book of Spirit solidifies the point that God placed the appropriate amount of power within our hearts, and yet many strayed and sought power through means of bodily corruption in the arts of Iblees and other entities of abhorrent evils. However, the men and women of the holy cloth, who act as sages for the word of god and his prophets, are the masters of the heart, and it is they who encourage their flock to imitate such holy power that lies dormant behind their breast. The Canon makes it clear that the heart is the center of devotion and worship, for there is no power greater than god, and he imbued his most beloved creations with powers of the heart. Our heart manifests love, kindness, empathy, sorrow, and yet it is corruptible. God knew this, and yet he placed faith into us all that we might overcome the temptations of sin. A gift is meant to be savoured, and so the devout of God must guard their hearts. So the heart is a fountain of mystical power granted by God.

Seeking Disciples: The Way of Malin
Mamimiux replied to The Order of Malin's topic in Elven Realms & Culture
A scholarly and astute Maehr sat in her room, a piece of parchment sprawled out in front of her, a quill in hand. She began to write as she touched the quill to the parchment. "To the Temple of Malin, I, Velythvulla Ilicaeryn, a woman of Velulaei's lineage, seek to honour the way of our forefather. I ask that you write further to me, so that I may indulge in the wisdom offered here and provide my own wisdom. Regards, Velythvulla Ilicaeryn -

Mutilators, Kidnappers, Liars—A Safety Warning
Mamimiux replied to Monty Cobra's topic in Human Realms & Culture
A bold and proud Elfess sat on a bench, surrounded by the beauty of Caurost's nature. "Yet they mutilate the ears of Elves, tusks of Orcs, and beards of Dwarves with delusions of righteousness? It is an abomination that they should feel free to mutilate the rest of mortaldom. You can not have it your way, without receiving the same treatment." -
A cloaked woman knelt before a shrine, pulling the hood back to reveal dark brown hair and sunken gray eyes. "So a warrior of our blessed lord perishes. Now to be reborn to pits of glorious flame and holy screams of agony... He will continue to serve, far beyond this simple plane..." She bowed her head a moment, praying silently to herself. Leaning forth, she blew out a candle, and all light faded in the room, leaving it pitch black...

But... Humans in the lore are the most POTENT of all the Descendant races. So it makes the most sense that humans would be a majority of Aevos' (and all future Maps henceforth)...

ʅαɮʊαʅɛʅ αɛȶɦ ɱαɛɦᵲչɦeʅ The Cuisine of The Maehr ♫ ♩ ♬♩ ♫ └─────────────────┘ ȶhe Exodus of the Mali’ker (or Maehr) to the subterranean environment of Aegis in ancient times began as a culture shock for the newly diverged group of Mali. The once lush and vibrant forests that they once inhabited were miles above their heads. Adaptation was necessary for their survival. One of the prime challenges faced was food. The fauna and flora of the Underdark were starkly different from that of the surface, with moles and strange mushrooms, moss and multi-legged insects. However, as proven before, the Dark Elves were a resilient people and quickly overcame these challenges, creating a distinct and unique cuisine amongst the descendant races. The Foundations of Maehr Cooking Water in the Underdark was mineral-rich, being collected from subterranean rivers and lakes. Scholars suggest it was the mineral-rich waters that gave the Dark Elves the nutrients they lacked due to the absence of sunlight. Like many cultures, water was used for hydration and cooking, but also plays an important role in food preservation and distillation. The Four Pillars of Maehr Cuisine In Dark Elven cuisine, there are four elementary pillars: Pickling Fermentation Distilation Drying The origins of the four pillars come from the Maehr’s desire to preserve their food supply, but over time grew to become culturally important. The dark and damp environment was the perfect condition for pickling, fermentation, and distillation. While drying was achieved through smoke-emitting vents in the caves. It is noted that the first three are often connected and have been referred to as “The Three Sisters,” while drying has been coined “The Brother.” This has been referred to as reflecting the children of Malin, symbolising the ancient connections of the Maehr foremother. Common Ingredients Below is a list of common ingredients, though this does not represent everything utilized in Dark Elven Cuisine: Moss Mushrooms Roots Lurker Eggs Spider Meat Cavefish Mole Milk Ferns Rat Meat Freshwater Plants Bat Meat Pickling Various things have been pickled by Dark Elves: various root vegetables, mushrooms, and meats. While a practical method of preservation, pickling grew to be one of the main forms of flavour enhancement amongst the Dark Elves. Fermentation Through fermentation, the Dark Elves were able to preserve and expand their culinary horizons. Through such things as Mole milk cheese or various spirits. Distillation In Dark Elven cuisine, distillation has been used for the production of spirits and alcohol, using the mineral-rich water as a base. The beverages crafted by the Maehr were more reliable as they would not spoil and provided hydration during prolonged periods away from a body of freshwater. Drying A legend goes that Maehr discovered smoking accidentally by leaving pieces of rat meat near a natural vent of smoke. Over time, Maehr began to use fire for this process, making it more efficient. The drying of meat kept meat from rotting and was commonly used for soldiers, but was still used in more cosmopolitan cooking. Popular Dishes There are a plethora of dishes in Maehr cuisine. A few notable examples are: Maehr Mushroom Soup The soup is a delectable and hearty dish, with mushrooms and various kinds of meat (Usually beetle, spider, mole, bat, or rat). The broth is prepared by boiling bone, then adding a fermented mushroom paste. Chunks of mushroom and meat are added shortly, with the common pairing for this dish being sourdough bread. Roast Mole Skewers A mole is roasted over an open fire, with dried herbs and fermented pastes rubbed around. The skin is to be crisp, while the meat is typically moist and falls off the bone. It is common to see couples, friends, and families share a skewer. Dried Cavefish Cavefish are dried in bunches and are a common snack shared amongst a community. Pickles A traditional Maehr pickle jar is not solely one type of item, but a mixture of many. However, one will find an abundance of roots, mushrooms, and moss in any respectable Maehr’s jar, with meat or fish being a less common, but not rare component. Pickled food is considered to have a connection with family and one's ancestors. One story states that a daughter of Veluluai maintained her jar for a thousand years, before dividing the mother-brine among her children. Lurker Egg Omlette Lurker Eggs are a rare and special delicacy, due to the difficulty in harvesting the eggs. But when turned into an omelette, it is described as fluffy and creamy. Mushrooms, beetle meat, dried moss, and sprigs of fresh herbs are added for further enhancement. Smoked Beetle Beetles are smoked in large quantities, with their exoskeleton still on. Once seasoned and properly smoked, the insects are displayed to a large group, with there being anywhere between 1,000-1,500 served at a given time. Grilled Spider Spider is often grilled and glazed in vinegar, it is often served with fermented mole-milk cheese Written by the Xutha, Penned Year 226 of the Second Age

The eager scraping of a pen against parchment echoed into the small cushioned corner. A giddy elfess wrote a letter to Liriana, "Miss Liri, I would love to join the: The Cedar Archives, The Verdant Whispers, The Thorned Compasses, and The Tree-Singers. I hope to hear back from you soon." Asuleyu

Zamdetula, far to the north, sat in her rooms, deep below the surface, consults the Black Scrolls. Her fervour for the word of Iblees and his chosen speakers is a testament to her journey of overcoming her hubris. -
A regal and refined Maehr read over the contents of this newly implemented concordant with approval. Her fingers ran along the parchment as she read it's contents. "The Dark Elves will see prosperity with this, we shall see a golden age for our people once more." [!] The Elfess signed her name as instructed

The Aged Vanir Woman sat on the side of her bed, a single tear falling down the wrinkled cheek. She had outlived Eleanora, Petra, and now her beloved cousin, Emma. Margot couldn’t help but wonder when it would be her turn when her candle would blow out, and she’d fly to the heavens amongst her family. She had stood aside Emma and watched her children grow into strong, and capable Princes and Princess… Now realizing that almost everyone she ever knew, had passed. It filled the little old lady with sadness, a great sadness that would haunt her for the rest of her days.
