How many players do you think can work in an event?
Based on only my time as Undead and some Monk events I think only a few members can truly make a grand event. When too many people are added in to help, progression and coordination becomes a tremendous issue and ultimately leads to the failure of many events. To be more blunt, I'd say 5 people max could pull off a really great event, anything more will cause too many people to feel uninvolved and uninterested. As an example, the Undead in athera all sort of hated each other. The different sections of the Undead didn't get along, and a lot of the players that made up the Undead had ooc issues with each other, although none were truly discussed among the full group, it was mostly just ooc blabber in the ears of the lead roles it felt like.
Did you like the old 'bounty board' monster hunting events?
I will leave myself out of this one, since I have had no experience with the bounty boards.
What is your opinion on PvE in events?
PvE events are definitely essential for filler, and as much as people don't like filler it is necessary for large plotlines, without some filler events for the larger ones to come, the plotline will really feel empty and most won't even care about it. I think the largest issue with Undead from the inside pov is that people were too scared to speak about their PvE events or events in general. We definitely need PvE events frequently to keep things interesting, throwing in prizes really helps too I've noticed.
What do you think of allowing some events, such as dungeons and fights, to be repeatable to allow different groups to experience the same event?
I do like this idea in some aspects, but when it comes to main storyline I don't think events should be re-played. But things like dungeons sounds like it could actually make for some entertaining rp.
What is your opinion on large event storylines? How can they be improved?
This one I can't stress enough.. and I hope you take what I say into consideration at least with this question. A main storyline is truly essential for a roleplay server to thrive, and for new players to start up. A main storyline makes for wonderful stories explained by old roleplayers, and there is a connection with all players that can't be broken unless it's by the administration. I think the Undead were way too uncoordinated and we did not do enough events. When we did do events however we worried a lot about criticism and then things became stressful and it ended up becoming a chore for us all rather than something we really wanted to do for everyone. IBLEES is a staple in our lore, and with a proper rewrite bringing him back seems ideal. Just like George Lucas, rewrites are your friend lotc. There is a lot of potential with Iblees and honestly the Undead and all that is not a bad idea in the slightest, but how it was pulled off ended up causing problems.
As a side note, roleplay battles between undead and real players was a real struggle. Personally when it came down to it, PVP was the way to go during Undead events, and roleplay battles never worked out in the end. People will always get mad about losing their items but then again they were the ones who wanted to fight the server's Antag. And we did die all the time so it was more than possible to kill us. We were OP but I mean... we were supposed to be for a real threatening fight to occur.
This fight occurred outside of our base, and it was essentially Ascended VS the Undead. Now the Ascended did not have a PVP plugin and we did, so when we ended up PVP fighting there were some issues. We wiped them all out in a few seconds it was quite unreasonable and it would not have made as much sense in a real storyline. To fix this, maybe a one on one pvp fight would have been best, and I do remember those were very fun for both sides and I do mean that. Too many people causes for unorganization and no fun.
And this is what you don't want to do to your friendly Antags.
THIS WAS AN RP FIGHT and of course I died and was overpowered but I was unable to really respond to anyone, and my emotes were sloppy and ultimately I couldn't pull it off in the slightest (just to note, I was expected to roleplay the whole thing and respond to each person rather than fight with mechanics) (anyone who remembers that I'm sorryyyy <3). PVP is the way to go with more than 1 or 2 people, I could not handle that.
I think we just need to learn from our mistakes, and really try again instead of just giving up on the main storyline. As long as we don't make the same mistakes twice, a really good storyline is just over the horizon.
