  1. Would these first rifts be possible to be created without the second? Also, as it is void translocation i agree has a limited number of uses but the uses are also so great in what they can do. However, despite it being a combative ability i do like it. The only thing id double check is how it interacts with magic since in essence you half explained a ward where it can be used to send the spell to the void and effectively negate it as that may be something the lms look it. All in all i like this, my last question is whatd be the maximum size these rifts could get and whatd happen if a living thing bigger than a small dog walked in or put their finger or even body through?
  2. As the original creator of the lore piece i will say jerry really has the closest idea of what i was going for. The void technically is where all things and all magics would originate from in our lore which would mean it being a final source for the ritual to work would make since. However in feel directly stating that it is the source defeats the purpose of the ability playing into what gladuos said. There are a few clerics druids and shamans my char taught in the past how to do this. And i feel by directly saying the void is the source could be detrimental in the neutrality of the ability and ward away many others who would be against it. That doesnt mean i dislike the addition i greatly like it and hope it to be accepted to continue spreading this cool idea. Just wanted to say this. Any questions id be open to answer within the next few days as i come.home in 2 days.
  3. We dont have lore for air evocation but generally for evocation as a whole. We do have a guide however that elindor wrote. However i do like the idea of having this if this is denied itd be pretty meh. Back when air evo was first reintroduced to the server in anthos there wasnt even a guide to it. Since then i feel the magic has come a long way from having only like 5 users. The only things i will say are to look at the current guide for air evocation for a few more tips and looking over the idea of wind and air on the server. I believe its been said that weather, rivers, climate and so forth are not bound by real life laws. In the case of deserts next to tundras and strange things like that. So its most likely be better to remove irl science from the lore in the case of air rising and falling hot air meeting cold as it seems too modern. But i may just be wrong thats just my two cents.
  4. Personally i would remove the idea of a spectral form and somply stay with your physical body. It seems kinda done before. Also whatd the interaction with holy magic mainly ascended magic be if the soul is technically twisted.
  5. Looks good my dude i for one greatly enjoy flavor lore to things like these. Keep at em.
  6. Hey, I just did as I was told. They were on the 1.9 dev server anyways. But if this lore is accepted, we won't need to worry about it. Cause they will be a thing for when 1.9 comes to lotc!
  7. A particular note would seem to find itself in the unfinished halls of Aurowind Enclave, the simple parchment waiting to be plucked and sent to one of the heads of the recent guild, bearing lavish writing that says "To whomever it may concern, the topic of Aurowind Enclave has piqued my interest though I am never quite to scribe my name down upon an application before I gather information, i'd be curious if a head or representative of this recently established guild could be dispatched to Juns' caravan of exotic things in the cloud temple docks, look for the man named Beranabus Seregon inside who will be waiting graciously for you. My thanks, I hope I may meet whomever this reaches in person soon." B.B Seregon
  8. The Flying Machine Sketches and Designs by: Beranabus Seregon Prologue: “For Millennia the descendant races have dreamt of soaring through the seven skies, over green rolling hills, mountains, forests, and seas alike. We have always looked to the skies, seeing birds fluttering through the skies so gracefully and simply in a mix of wonder and jealousy wondering what it could be like to fly for even brief moments. This dream, this surreptitious aspiration in all of us is what drove me to begin this research. In my first set of research I looked to the many in our realm that practice the mystical arts of magic in both present and past. Many archaic nations and guilds of the past, Rivellians, the Mages College, even the Aengudaemons themselves have artifacts which I had studied to begin with. Beginning with simple floatation, the grandest of these being the ancient city-state of Rivel. Consisting of many of the grandest minds of that time with ancient runes and enchantments were able to construct the grandest, and most lavish of floating cities. Through the study of these artifacts of past and present I found that something they all had that I failed to see, is the dependance on magic. An art many cannot comprehend and even more shun, and claim to be heresy. Woe is me to not have realized it sooner, but I was thinking ways to achieve prolonged flight but hadn’t even thought of the simple basics of my time in the Ministry of Contemplation.. Accessibility for all, not just magically inclined, nor those deemed worthy but /all/ anyone who wished. And so I began anew, shelving this research and starting from relative scratch by studying many of the winged creatures of our plane of existance, birds, bats, flying whales, cockatrice, drakaar, dragons, and so forth. I studied their makeups, and saw what all these things had in common which were wings. Now, we as simple descendants cannot sprout wings out of the blue so I began with my first draft of creating artificial wings.” -Excerpt from the grimoire of Beranabus Seregon- First Draft: “After a few years I had finalized the design in my head using both my experience in wood carving, as well as my study of animals I created this design after the wings of a bat giving the first incarnation of this idea a sleek, and rather appealing appearance despite it being the first attempt of many. By studying the way bats wings were, being the easiest to recreate effectively, to be made up two thin layers of skin with their fingers, and thumb set in between the two layers of skin tightly knit together which made their wings light, yet somewhat loose enough to catch air underneath in order to take and maintain flight keeping them in air. As well by studying birds found out that the innermost portion of their wings were actually moving more slowly than the outermost portion which gave birds the capability to have more sustained flight as opposed to powerful flight. So with the experience I had I had gotten to work. Firstly I began with the wings which I made and shaped using a thin, yet strong linen type fabric. Which was able to catch wind without rupturing, but was not heavy enough to prevent flight. To connect this sleek fabric I used thin carved wooden rods, made from acacia wood that I shaped carefully and pulled akin to the design of a recurve bow using long planks of acacia timber. It was shaped according to the front curve of the structure akin to a bats wings. Afterwards I had added long curved rods of wood that were thinner than the the base piece simulating the fingers and thumb that’d normally be in the two layers of skin. Tied using tight knots to keep it connected to the front of the construct these pieces were used to keep the entirety of the fabric tight along to the ends to prevent it from flailing and ultimately crumpling and folding midflight. Then finalized the structure with another long bar and two straps used like a backpack to allow this first draft to be attached to the back of the wearer like a birds wings. The test was ultimately a failure, upon catching wind I had ultimately failed, as the design was found to be unable to catch wind most likely due to the fabric being too tight and giving no slack that could be used to slow the fall. Akin to when you drop a handkerchief and it parachutes down slowly compared to a rock. In the end this draft was a failure. -Excerpt from the grimoire of Beranabus Seregon- Second Draft: “After several more attempts these past few years it’d seem I have come to a new conclusion using new research granted to me from a student of mine I was able to conclude that the failure of many of the previous designs were due to not just needed slackness, but both a rudder to stabilize the balance of the machine, as well as upwards motion to counteract against the downward motion of falling. This new draft is designed after the body of an eagle I had been studying. Utilizing a pulley system The device above shows where a man could actually lie into the machine. His waist would be inside the ring just below the wings, his hands would hold the two sticks coming down from the wings for directional control and a flapping motion would be powered by the man forcing his legs downwards with his feet inside the two spurs. You can see this in the small insert to the left of the main picture. This design took away with the backpack in place using the ring to stabilize the person utilizing the machine. This design was far more complex however, by using the flap of the wing to I had theorized one could in turn catch up to speed to allow them to stabilize and maintain prolonged flight. By forcing downward on the two wooden spurs attached to a thin rope, as well as contorting the body into an upwards curl one could theoretically catch the last bit of air to make a stable semi horizontal with a slight angle of decline to slowly descend to the ground. However, this design required me to be at a greater height, making the first test needing to be done atop a cliff leading to a lake incase of failure. In the end this too was a failure however, instead of the first the machine was able to at first catch wind though the flapping motion proved fruitless and the bulkier design made moving upwards to stabalize flight far too difficult as the hardwood used was too heavy and ridged ultimately leading to my descent to the lakebed belly first. Luckily I was able to escape from the loop binding me to the machine and swim out relatively unscatched, excluding bruises acquired on impact, as well as deep gashes from the jagged rocks on the lakebed.” -Excerpt from the grimoire of Beranabus Seregon- Completion: “After an arduous year long time period which I delved into deep study, I was able to finalize a design I believe could be fruitful in my attempt to achieve prolonged flight. This design utilizes both machines’ positives while excluding both of my main drafts’ flaws that ultimately caused their failure. This newer design now utilizes a curved appearance, using the same fabric material I have used through my studies however, now doubled the layers sewing both fabrics together on their seams to make an interior more likely to catch wind and sustain flight. This time I has used the design of the wings of a hawk which gave me a sleek yet longer base to stretch the fabric along along a wider surface than previously yet kept the lightweight and singular design of the first draft. The entirety of the sleek draft was made using a plethora of smaller curved rods of a mix of both birch and acacia wood. Using the birch for the long slender rods to stretch along the now curved wings with the acacia as supports to prevent the birch from snapping mid flight, allowing it to keep under the weight. I kept the rudder to stabilize flight, but did away with the heavy ring and rudders of the second draft, ultimately doing away with my dream of having more control movement, in place for a lightweight aspect, and actually being able to maintain flight. This time for the handle I used a long curved rod of wood, attached to the ends of the rod would be triangular handles used for holding the machine during flight in a comfortable way, whilst having the bar to be held whilst on the ground. The test was more than I had hoped to accomplish in this design, keeping up in air I was able to after getting a running start and jumping off one side of a hill, glide across (albeit at a slow pace) the air to the other side of a neighboring hill. I couldn’t have asked this to work better, as I have achieved the first step of our people's dream of flight. The only issue I see with this is due to the removal of the rudders it is no longer as controlled as I hoped. Only allowing the machine to glide across in a straight path, gusts of wind proving the bane to this lighter device as it easily topples the glider mid flight causing it to fall. -Excerpt from the grimoire of Beranabus Seregon- Publication to the Community Though still in its’ more infant stages these excerpts and designs by Beranabus Seregon are published to the general populace of Vailor to allow further study and publication of future improvements to the general design to hopefully one day achieve sustained flight for all of descendant-kind. I ask any who wish to learn, or take on these studies for themselves to read through these carefully and make alterations and improvements as they wish. Thus is the reason for open publication such as this in hopes to achieve technological improvements for the betterment of all of the descendants. ------- OOC: Jistuma told me to write lore about hang gliders in the upcoming minecraft update that will be added to the server, so I did as my Lore Master overlord told me to do like a good little boy.. The lore is rather general, and what I hope to be as an introduction to hang gliders on the server. That is it thank you all!
  9. As a none druid i support this. Generally these changes you want are none combative amd really make sense from a lore standpoint. Though I personally would want to see it a bit more and allow druids to strive to learn it. I as a none druid have only interacted and learned about shapeshifting on one occasion ever. Its a cool ability that i have always supported its addition ideas but think general players should be exposed to it to a degree so they can get a feel about it.
  10. I like the idea, it is something i attempted in a way to do with my conduits of enlightenment lore. However i think of accepted itd be something that wouldnt be an official magic but more like an ability. What i feel magic has that is an issue, is the fact that all magic has to be either its own magic or apart of an already existing one. It would be refreshing to see an individual ability that is just a simple ability. The only issue with this is that in the past all ideas similiar to this have been denied for fear of meta gaming.
  11. The reason why the ascended do it is also cause in character they are a higher order who follow a patron of good. You can't just let random people who haven't seen or have been vouched for into an order. It makes sense from an IC standpoint though, the only thing it really hinders is OOCly they are a small group of people since each person needs to be meticulously chosen. Hope you guys take a more religious role this time though.
  12. I like it, kinda reminds me of davy jones's curse in the pirates of the Caribbean, though they have a lot o weaknesses. It'd be cool to see another possible strength. It can be as simple as being able to preform water evocation more easily, or something of that sort. It'd be cool to see this a thing though so +1.
  13. Nah I mean with the magics you mentions this has been done before using Conjuration Evocation, and Alteration. Kinda like a semi perminent primordial though it does take a while to create these things. However, I do like the way you phrased it and created the lore. So, i'd much rather these be the main if not only way to create the atronachs/elementals. The only question I have is if this is accepted as canon if mages would be able to know or think this up. Or would it work like a magic and start for example with your character and spread outwards. Hopefully the Former! (Also air atronachs)
  14. I like clarification for the creation though possible already I hope this be accepted so more people know about it. Though you forgot Air Atronachs Darkdragon, how can you forget the Air Atronachs!
  15. Sadly, all that is said in the lore is possible and has been done with the subtype under alteration (Transfiguration) magic which is transmutation. And with the limitation of requirement of contact to preform the act. If the disintegration magic you wish to add simply does that in turning something into dust requiring physical contact as well as in-depth knowledge of the different materials making the object then it'd be essentially what Transmutation can do. Though transmutation can besides just disintegration as well heat things up cold things, change its' state (Ice -> water) (Water -> Water Vapor) color and so on. The reason though that this lore differs with Bathrugmans' is that Bathrugmans' lore allows it to be cast at a distance not requiring physical contact as well as preforming it in a different aesthetic way. Anyways hope this comment helped Dohvakin, if ya need anymore info on Alteration feel free to contact me or just refer to the guide on the forums. :) That being said if your character looked into this, would it not be plausible for you to make a MA (If you plan for your character to learn this) for self teaching for transmutation to be able to preform this spell? I think that'd be pretty cool and whimsical.
  16. Basically what Bnk and Hydra said, all things are basically made up of mana, he is not wrong in saying that in the lore translocation lore has touched upon it similiarly. Though, I greatly like the concept Bathrughomie, I think we talked about this in character a few times. Though I think it'd make more sense to combine this into either void translocation or possibly transfiguration since it seems like it uses aspects of Transmutation, voidal translocation, and even air evocation to some degree. I wouldn't mind it being a single magic though personally but I think it'd fit more as a cool addition for one of those two magics, though because I use both magics i'm just gonna abstain from saying anything further, wanna remain unbiased. But nice concept hope it gets accepted.
  17. As someone who enjoys your lore BNK I have to agree with Whim, I feel like a lot of these additions add more than the magic itself is really coming from someone from the outside. Though yes it may be a combative magic in nature. I feel like it'd be best to make it so it doesn't directly interact with people, instead just on the user itself. Besides that, I also feel as though it is rather complicated. Reading over once I had difficulty grasping what each spell does. And just how some of the things will interact with other people may be a bit complicated as it may cause issue in just how some players could react with these spells. I will not deny it is written well and I like the concept of some magics having spells. I just feel that Voidal Shifting should remain as it is, as a blinking magic about the caster being mobile in combat, or to escape. This doesn't mean that some of the spells that interact with others couldn't be brought into other magics. Or even go as far as to make a magic in itself in the manipulation of speeds and or gravity or something. Get what i'm trying to say homie?
  18. As someone who likes both sides rp I don't mind this addition too much. This seems fine to me.
  19. Soo, does that mean it's still feasible with enchanting? Cause i've done that with the magic for a while now. And did the research and RP ICly to crete it. But not this exact design or how it works. So it'd still be different. Even still I do like a written up way for mages to communicate with eachother. Not a fan of birds.
  20. Uhh, I thought this was possible already with enchanting.. If not.. Uhh.. My bad Mat :) (Excluding the projection part atleast) Ps: Whether it is or not I do like the idea, it'd be cool for /all/ mages to be able to do this.
  21. I support this lore greatly! The only issue is about a year or two ago me and kaun made lore similiar to this and brought it to an lm though were told it would most likely not be accepted due to it having a possibility of meta gaming. Though, I hope the stance has changed since then.
  22. Thought Sagwort made lore bout this in like anthos and got accepted. I think he taught some of us Icly back then. Not sure though was like two years ago. Atleast that is what the lore is based off of somewhat ryay or nah?
  23. In the lore I wrote that characters can innately be brimming with energy or turn it off like a switch be it consciously or not. Basically meaning it is up to the person OOCly whether they want their character to have the presence or not. And I said it works like a double edged sword. It can be cool especially for very powerful mages almost emanating a magical presence but at the same time others will be able to tell that they are a mage or not. So short answer nah, if your character is a strong magic user that doesn't automatically mean he is brimming with energy. And OOCly up to you whether they are or not. Or in some cases ICly.
  24. Like I said in the post this was made for a type of clarification since there's no lore written on it on the forums Right now it's in a state of ambiguity for many players whether they can do something like this or not.
