  1. I understand removing warp signs will always be unpopular, but I love they’re gone and support the Admins,     +1

  2. So how’s the server changed in the past 2-ish years? Dropped by out of curiosity.

  3. bring warp signs back bruh

  4. I understand removing warp signs will always be unpopular, but I love they’re gone and support the Admins,     +1

  5. Warp Signs were a response to lag, people who are complaining about it got attached to a temporary solution, it has nothing to do with ‘subverting bandit rp’ or anything of that nature.

A good majority of ur post is filled with strawmans, so I’ll ignore those. I’ll respond to your most, valid, points I guess.

      1.   Great, I appreciate that you’re here to respond to the valid points in my arguments. I really like that, as it means I can respond to yours.

Lag has been fixed for people who don’t use the wifi at McDonalds.

      1. The original point I made to warrant this argument is this: “The lag hasn’t been fixed for everyone, and there’s no reason to not have FT.”
      2. I copy and paste another one of my forum post arguments here: “Chunk lag hasn’t been resolved and even if it has, connection to the server has still been spotty for many people. Your experience of chunk lag is also different from players who have worse computers than you, or worse internet connections than you. The lack of empathy for others who don’t have access to better WiFi and a good computer is pretty common among the anti-warp sign crowd.”
      3. To those reading these, DeusVult openly confirms that there is no empathy for people who are not experiencing clear connection to the server. Maybe he has spotty connection and so he feels warranted to dismiss other’s valid complaints as being sourced from those who play LotC at McDonalds.

      5. I’d love to get to a location with better WiFi, but that pesky pandemic! To close this argument for the onlookers here, even if you aren’t buying that the lag that had warp signs implemented is truly gone for everyone, DeusVult still refuses to answer the claim that warp signs are worth keeping solely on their own merit

Why are warp-signs so important for casual players?

      1.  It’s my impression after reading the original thread that warp signs were removed through, and talking to the new players that I try to help on the server. The general trend seems to be thinking that the removal of FTs will make it harder to casual players to find active settlements, as we have many fluctuating hours of shift activity between differing areas of the map.
      2. A casual player is less likely to be vote every day for a month in a row, and thus is locked to even less soulstone slots and SS cooldown times.
      3. Casual players rely on accessing the RP they want faster, and are more likely to experience burnout through the feeling of having their time wasted, something that FT prevented them feeling.
      4. Here are some more points of players agreeing with these sentiments.
        1.  I’m not going to find any good rp in the middle of the road between CT and Haelun’or, or halfway through Korvassa trying to get to one of the settlements there. I will find the rp either in the city itself, or right outside it. Taking away fast travel simply means I have less time to rp with anyone.”
        2. Welp, now if I don’t see people when I log on around me I might as well log dab dab.”
        3. ”Bring the warps back as it helps new players find nations quicker. We know people want some bandit RP but warp signs benefit for regular players and new ones.”
        4. The positives of warps are:

-Promotes activity in smaller or more far-flung settlements.

-Aids new players in locating roleplay and picking a spot they want to establish themselves.

-Avoids drama and inconvenience often associated with road roleplay.

-Lets people do what they’re here for, roleplay (not running and jumping), faster and more easily.

-Encourages exploration of different settlements, promoting character growth and diminishing clique-like mentality.

-Broadly, makes more players happier.  “

        5. ”Having warps allows new players to get to big nation hubs easier and helps keep them on the server, the first hour of roleplay for a new player will decide whether they stay or leave”

        6. “Convenience isn’t bad. It doesn’t hurt roleplay to make it slightly easier to find a place to RP. Personally I’m not a fan of fast travels to every city gate, but it’d be mad convenient if certain distant parts of the map were linked up to CT.”

Also-keep crying about being banditted, that’s pretty much what your post is.

@Unwillingly It’s clear that no-warpers have no intention of meeting us at the halfway here unless we change raid rules. We’re cowards in DeusVult’s eyes, and I think we should try to push for a Your View on FT’s returning in an altered form so that the attitude of abdb898f9bd95efc696c44d4b8f7b9aa.png this doesn’t wind up working.

@GavinH Thanks for your well-written input, GavinH. It’s clear that even players who are not involved directly in the warp/no warp tug of war for the playerbase’s “legitimate forms of travel” have an interest in voicing their opinions on this subject. It seems to me that the removal of warps goes far beyond the balance of bandit-side road RP, or simple convenience. Many of us came to see the warp signs as not just temporary fixes to lag, but as staple mechanics that allowed us to navigate the locations on the server smoothly and without need for cumbersome strolls through the grass. I am confident that the staff will see that many players have a more complex and personal relationship with warp signs because locomotion is such a big RP factor in how the server feels. Despite my dismissal of road-side taverns and bandit RP as being good reasons to remove warp signs, I still think there is a crowd of people who very obviously misses something they used to have: experiences while travelling.

Maybe we could see some staff paying attention to the fact that many players seem to either view travelling as a good way to find RP, or an encumbrance that gets in the way of their gaming, and try to balance these aspects with some of the other solutions proposed that aren’t just having a free instant no-cooldown warp to nearly every populated place on the server, or just returning wholly to 4 slot soulstones.

@Callum Tavern roleplay certainly has its place on the server, but that’s not a good enough reason to just outright remove all forms of fast-travel. If this conversation was only about the singular instance of warpsigns we had on this map, fine, the billboard of instantwarps at CT was a little reductive. But condensing the entirety of our playerbase that has a positive tie to fast travel as being lesser-than in their desires for convenience compared to your need for tavern RP is tonedeaf and ignorant. You can understand why we don’t care about these roadside taverns as much as we can understand why you appreciate foot-travel; warp signs don’t remove foot travel though, they reduce it to the population that actually wants to bother with it. Your interpretation that this “kills tavern RP” doesn’t carry any weight, if tavern RP was so good on roads, the players would have voted with their presence at those locations.

@argonian Guess we have to agree to disagree. Looks like this fast-travel thing really divides people on the server, we should probably get a Your View and a poll so we can make a decision that accounts for everyone’s opinions, rather than just yours and mine.

I will say though, it’s a lot longer than 3 minutes to get to a lot of places, and I personally enjoy the warps because they reduce how often I have to hold a key down on my keyboard, which winds up hurting my finger joints a lot because of some simple medical factors. That’s just another personal reason I enjoy not having to stroll through the server on your time.

So far it seems like the anti-warp crowd just really wants me to like bandit rp and walking places, but why should I bother doing that? I’m just going to keep SS’ing between the locations that I have my SS set to now, and I have no intention of ever hitting the roads. So much for those taverns, though!

      @TheAlphaMoist

It’s pretty clear that the people who don’t want warp signs aren’t going to put together a list of reasons to defend themselves, they’re just going to assert that their way is the right way and we’re weak for wanting the signs. There’s no benefit to arguing, so I think if we pushed for a Your View and continued to post status updates regularly about our desire for warp signs, it would wind up being more effective for our agenda in the long run.

Players who don’t want warps are relying on us talking to them to approve our ideas, but we have more than enough proof that they have no desire to sympathize or listen to the things we’ve said. At this point, the non-staff anti-warp players are just playing some rhetorical game to make it look like they know what’s best for everyone, and that this decision is “ultimately better for the server”. We should focus on gathering more testimony as to why the warps wound up keeping us on LotC instead of us just logging off.

Eh, whatever warps kill was meant to have been dead. I have no problem continuing to lobby for warps until the day the server dies, and the trade offs for FT vs ‘realism’ are basically a bad joke in my eyes. Sure I might be a little too mad so sad that FTs have been temporarily taken away, but the things people are saying for “what those dastardly warps did” just seems pretty made up and self-aggrandizing. Who cares if a tavern owner goes without RP? I really, really don’t. Just because RP is present and available doesn’t mean it’s what I want to play with, and you don’t deserve to have RP at a tavern just because you spent some time to build it. Just don’t take warps yourself if you really wanna pretend that holding W is a good use of your time.

      @DeusVult

The lag hasn’t been fixed for everyone, and there’s no reason to not have FT. Let road RP die, only city RP really matters. If you can’t accept that, than you’re married to the dead RP of 2016. Sorry, the meta of LotC has just passed the point where players get anything from walking on roads to get places, unless they’re raiding. If you yourself really, really love pressing W and pretending that’s RP, you can be my guest to waste your own OOC time, but I have no intention of ever being anywhere other than the actual locations I want to RP at. Having to navigate the server at your whims just doesn’t tickle my fancy.

And again, just because I’m attached to something temporary doesn’t mean that the admins can’t bring it back. All it takes to reinstate warp signs is like 50 chat commands and 10 minutes in creative. Hopefully they’ll be brought back because these “People who like warp signs are just pampered babies” takes are honestly boring and arrogant coming out of people who also spend their entire day playing on a Minecraft role-playing server.

Do you have any intention to respond to the numerous well-written points by the huge crowd of people that benefited from, enjoyed, and found heightened creative experiences through the warp signs, or are you just going to continue your life in Anti-Warp headquarters trying desperately to make people who don’t think holding W is RP be bullied into silence?

And warp signs might be bad for the RP you like, but I really don’t care. If the RP you like dies to get warp signs, it should have died. Warp signs are more important than whatever we have to give up to get them, even if it means swallowing our pride and admitting that not everyone is as die hard of an RP fanatic. The casual player matters 100x more than the people who think road RP is LotC’s saving grace.

sorry @KeatonUnbeaten i actually do like villain rp but bandit rp doesn’t jive with me. i preferred the convenience of warp signs over the potential for robbery rp on roads. maybe we’d have more villain rp if we made harder decisions about the direction to take the server with things like guardforces and metgaming, but ripping out warp signs is the easy path – you force conflict out of the disruption to ease of travel. that is a cheap way to create meaningful villain rp that winds up just annoying people, and what, you really don’t think warp signs will ever be re-added? what then, bandit rp just dies again? if you like bandit rp, then you have to find ways to make it happen that don’t contrast against the ease of access features that casual players like. does that make sense?

why the **** would anyone play a villain or an antag for someone to RP with? they’ll get dogged and lose and if they get plugins to win people will just cry, there’s no point playing someone to dislike anymore because literal dozens of people will show up to swamp you and take your time

villainy and antagonistic rp are in the biggest hog-tied nut-vice double bind ever, if you loosen up the rules for villains to be played, no one will be free to do anything as the largest groups on the server just take your time and stuff, and because of how strict the rules are now, we basically have kidnapping squads and that’s it.

oh and some plague-towns under a few cities but guard-discords spam alert each other whenever anything suspicious goes down. the amount of OOC planning it takes to provide even a sliver of fun villain rp is so not worth the 50/50 shot you have at getting gunned down, your IC name and IGN plastered into google docs spread around the entire server, and basically having a perma-locked character slot

so legit ask yourself why you think no one wants to play the ‘common enemy’ on this server
