The Arcane Vigil

Ever vigilant in the pursuit of knowledge

About Us:

The vigil is not an ancient, strict order of mages. Nor are we some exclusive cult. Nay, we are a casual magical brotherhood, bound together in our quest for knowledge! Our thirst for adventure and knowledge leads us far and wide, from the dark depths of crumbling ruins or merely a journey together to a distant city. Whatever the case may be, the Vigilants stand united, watching each others backs and congregating together for safety against those whom would seek to harm us. We care not for wars or power, only for knowledge!

A brief history:

The Arcane Vigil is not an old nor storied name. Yet our roots trace back to another name. The Arcane Delvers. A guild founded in the days of Asulon in a time where magi were despised and abused, much like they are today in parts of the world. Polgrath the mindlord, a master of Illusion banded together with the Sorcerer Richard Tarus to create a place where magi might live and study together in peace. A place that would come to be known as Ac’talareh. The guild flourished with Polgrath at the helm, its members frequently going off on adventures of all kinds. However Polgrath eventually left the Delvers. After his departure, the Delvers saw different leaders come and go, the guild changing slightly (and in some cases dramatically) to fit each different leaders whims. Yet still they, for the most part, prospered, growing to become the largest non nation affiliated organisation.

Yet the Delvers slowly faded away. The leadership grew feeble, and the vast numbers of members grew to be lazy. Before long, the Delvers crumbled into nothing. Years went by and they faded from the memories of most. But not all. It had been years since the words Arcane Delvers had been seen on any sort of document, yet in the year 1462, it saw light once more. An ex Regent by the name Jonathan Elers, a master aeromancer and an Ex delver veteran by the name Vuln Shadeleaf, a master geomancer met together and agreed it was time. Time to bring back that which had died. Letters were sent to all corners of the Fringe and a meeting was called for any that might listen. Before long, the new guild was steadily underway, founded on the original concepts of Polgrath. A group of like minded mages, warriors, adventurers but most of all learners, banded together once more for comradery and safety. The Arcane Delvers were truly dead. But the Arcane Vigil, had been born

Given name(RP name): You will call me 'Shale'

(Skype name if you have one): TheWafflian

True name(MC name): Darkdragon274

Race: I am an elf. What sort of elf is irrelevant.

Authentic magic user?: No.

If so what form of magic ye use?:

Do ye seek adventure, knowledge, and companionship?: Why apply if I do not?

Mageshield, Vigils or Apprentice(if other detail)?: I apply as a Mageshadow, despite your regulations. This is my area of expertise and you will, assuming you accept this, find such expertise to be suitable. This is non-negotiable.

For Mageshields only:

Do ye swear solemnly to put your life upon the line to preserve that of your arcane brethren?

What combat skills have ye? My tongue is my sword and my traps are my shield.

Short Response for all Applicants, write how ye would respond:

You come across a massive ruin of ancient design, strange sounds and lights emanate from within.

I mark the location, and send the information to somebody more suited for arranging an exploration. Afterwards, I enter the outer rooms of the site, to decide whether or not it has been looted yet.

While at a local bar you see two dark hooded figures in the corner discussing in a whispered conversation. You can't quite make out what they're saying but you clearly hear the word "artifact".

Despite the common assumption, most men of shady repute do not discuss evil plans at populated taverns. The obvious solution is to buy the pair a few rounds of heavy liqueur and loosen their lips with alcohol.

Walking down the Anthos Highway you come across a masked man with a sword threatening a hooded figure, claiming he is a necromancer.

Assuming neither of these men are of the order, I allow the situation to go on as is. If I'm particularly bored, I may stand around and watch. Other men's fights are not my own.

Jonathan scans over the application as it finds its way to his desk. He raises his eyebrows in particular amusement when he notes the instance of being a mageshadow. Reaching for his quill, he quickly pens a response and sends it off via bird to the man

Well Mr Shale, you've certainly perked my interest, however unorthodox your application might be. Come and meet me in the tavern at Alras and we will discuss your future within the guild further. Send me a bird to arrange a time that best suites. I look forward to our meeting.

Sincerely, Jonathan Elers

I'd simply ask them what they are discussing about. If they deny me to know, I would simply walk away; no need to push a subject.

I would connect to the Void with much haste and simply toss the man aside with a gust of wind. Nobody should be harmed, Necromancer or not.

True name(MC name): UsopptheSniper

Race: Adunian

Authentic magic user?: Mhm, part of the Mages' Guild too.

If so what form of magic ye use?: Electromancy and I'm currently being taught Arcane Evocation.

Do ye seek adventure, knowledge, and companionship?: If I didn't, would I be applying?

Mageshield, Vigils or Apprentice(if other detail)?: Vigil

For Mageshields only:

Do ye swear solemnly to put your life upon the line to preserve that of your arcane brethren?

What combat skills have ye?

Short Response for all Applicants, write how ye would respond:

Kalamari would make note of the ruins and send a bird to a few of his friends, forming a small party of folks before descending into the ruins.

While at a local bar you see two dark hooded figures in the corner discussing in a whispered conversation. You can't quite make out what they're saying but you clearly hear the word "artifact".

Kalamari would grin and approach the two, grabbing a seat from a different table. He'd plop down beside the two, receiving glares from the two. Kalamari raises his hands showing he means no harm and begins to ask them about what they are discussing. He'd buy them drinks and explain that he has experience in such things and be willing to help if whatever they are discussing proves to be interesting enough.

Walking down the Anthos Highway you come across a masked man with a sword threatening a hooded figure, claiming he is a necromancer.

Kalamari would watch for a bit, knowing that if the figure was an actual necromancer, he'd be able to handle himself. If no ghouls or black mist appears, he'd intervene to stop the masked man.
