Re: Dwarves And Magic (Ooc)

Dwain made love to an Aengul (Belka I think). So all descendants of Dwain have Aengul blood. All Dwarves are descended from Yudora and Urguan. Neither are Aenguls. I hope that answers the Irongut question thing.

The fact that you think it's Belka hurts me Dave. I know I raised you properly.

This is stupid, some people in particular should feel exceedingly stupid.

As understood by the (here is the important bit) Majority of the Dwarven Playerbase for Multiple Years (Reread that a few times just to make sure you got it) you must be a descendent of Dwain Irongut. HOWEVER (focus that However, it's the important part of this sentence) this does not actually mean you must be a participating member of the Irongut Clan. Further this does not mean that the Irongut clan can revoke your blood ties to Dwain Irongut if you were to leave the clan. By and large it is accepted that dwarves not of relation to Dwain cannot use magic however the trade off is that they hold a resistance (not nullification) to magic. That resistance is more directed towards magic that directly affects the state of a dwarf, still burns but the exceedingly painful burning is somewhat less exceedingly painful to a degree. This resistance does not enable a dwarf to shrug off mages attempts in the slightest.

Further if a playerbase feels the need to cut off it's connection to the void by and large I don't see why the Lore Team or past Magic Team should have a issue with such. Even moreso when a reasonable alternative is presented that dwarves may still be able to become mages if they make a slight effort (all you gotta do is say "I'm a descendent of Dwain" tough stuff I know) to within Lore/OOC bounds.

To stress the fact that you do not have to be a accepted Irongut I will list some descendents of dwain outside of the Irongut Clan itself

  • Aengoth Starbreaker
  • Aldal Ireheart
  • Bael Tunnelsmasher
  • Tortek Golemforge (Was a Irongut for awhile but got exiled, still was a descendent and still had the capacity for magic)

Further why is this even becoming a power struggle between Staff and Dwarves, can the dwarven playerbase not within reasonable bounds dictate some of its own Lore? Further if this unofficial Lore has been followed for a multitude of years and only infringes to the extent of requiring a player to say they in some way shape or form have descended from Dwain Irongut. What (pointless) leaps and bounds must be done to finally make this topic accepted Lore.

That he thinks Belka is an aengul is what is hurting me. This guy is meant to be a prophet?

I swear I raised him properly. I think he's been smoking herbs or something.

Ten pages? Really guys?

This is the easiest one to handle IC ever.

Every dwarf knows that non-Irongut dwarves can't do magic because it says so on page 423 of the Giante Olde Tome of Dwarvish Knowings. Therefore, all dwarves know that any short bearded axe-wielding fellow fond of drink and industry who starts chucking fireballs and casting illusion spells is either a filthy dirt-blooded double-cursed halfbreed born of the unholy union of dwarf and non-dwarf, or worse, an Irongut.

No dwarven clan is going to accept a filthy halfbreed into its numbers, and only one will accept Ironguts (guess which). Thus, a dwarven mage is left with a choice.
1. Embrace their Irongut heritage and join the Ironguts posthaste.

2. Claim not to be of Irongut heritage. Be treated by all dwarves as a halfbreed, not a true dwarf. Hold no citizen's rights because you are not legally a dwarf. Be without clan because you are not legally a dwarf. Be butchered for heresy and insult to dwarfkind should you claim to be a dwarf.

Faced with that choice, most dwarf mages will rapidly discover two things: that Hiebe is their fifth cousin and their new last name based on a certain metal and a certain part of the dwarven digestive system.

Can you stop a dwarf saying he's not an Irongut and is a wizard OOC? No, no you can't. But who cares what he or the Lore Team says OOC? It has no bearing on how your character acts. IC you know he's either an Irongut or he's not really a dwarf, for it is written and therefore it is true, and you can act accordingly IC.

If none of the LMs are ******* dwarves...

Why in the nine hells would any of the LMs give an eighth of a **** about a race they don't even play?

Evidently because it must affect the LMs in some way...

P.S.: There is a reason it was dwarven magic RESISTANCE. not (NOT!) dwarven magic IMMUNITY.
