Tirenas 677 Share Posted September 10, 2014 I personally don't think the changes were needed. Status updates and reputation is harmless, really.

Katherine1 362 Share Posted September 10, 2014 I don't mind the loss of reputation. I think status updates should have been more strictly policed rather than take them away entirely.

DecoLamb 959 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Bring back status updates. Its how a lot of us advertise small things or share links. Unless of course you want is to flood the forums with threads linking our twitches, arts, and gyazos of funny or cool stuff even though the thread is only viable for five minutes or less.
KarmaDelta 969 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Having statuses gave people places to vent their frustrations that were not big enough to constitute a forum post. Also, as Drake keeps saying, people advertised their roleplay, applications, etc. so that they may have a form of attention rather than people sifting through topic upon topic about things. If rep is taken away completely, that is fine. No one besides the rep hungry men and women of this server, along with those darn jokesters, wanted it so they can feel cool and edgy with what they think and how it showed off how "popular" they are. As many were saying as well, -1s would be somewhat of a good re-addition. Though, it could hurt someone's feelings in a way depending on use, though I am sure we are all mature enough to not stoop that low. Also, since the visual representation of rep is gone on our profiles, it would mean nothing forum wide. With rep gone people don't have to always carry around a shame tattoo of how much negative rep they have outside of the topics people disagreed with. Also, if negative rep is added in, make it so that if you +1 someone, you could change your mind and -1 immediately after if you didnt mean to do that or your view changed. Then the whole thing could be on a 24 hour cooldown timer and say if someone fixed their issues with the topic, you can +1 or -1 to even it out what you did before. That is my view, thank you.
WuHanXianShi14 0 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Bring them back I was just about to reach 1500 rep too :((((( Kidding aside IDGAF about rep but status updates were useful for advertising recruitment threads.
Raptorious 1899 Popular Post Share Posted September 10, 2014 Removing statuses and rep was a horrible mistake. Simple as, experiment or no, you should have anticipated the results. STATUSES Statuses serve no logical function, they are a source of nonsense, advertising, linking videos, banter and just mucking around. They were great. They were a great form of communication with people outside your clique (as I proved to gaius yesterday using my own statuses as an example), they are a great way of getting people's quick opinions without getting on threads. They are a great way of asking quick questions or getting a quick message across without wasting threads. They are a nice fun addition and a good way to keep up with quick and current news on the server. They are also great for brand new players who can be quite intimidated by many of the threads we have around the forums and who we dont want to make a mistake, lest they be warned by the forum moderators. Why were they removed? We're told they were removed because they serve no logical function, are filled with trolling and heated remarks after wars and are a source of horrible cyber bullying where everybody suffers. Bullshit. The cons of statuses are greatly exaggerated, they are a mild annoyance in certain periods of server drastic change and wars, problems easily solved by PROPER moderation of the status bar by FMs that are trained and explained how to moderate, like they were back in the days when I was an FM. All the removal of statuses has done, is move all the shitposting, the banter, the trolling and all that, to threads, threads hidden inside forums and subforums and miniforums, threads that cant always be found. Thus making the FM job harder, thus making more people mad at the staff team, thus cluttering the forums with CRAP and annoying everyone that posts anything. What you have done, by removing statuses, is taken the crime and the criminals from the wide open field where everyone can see them and hidden them amongst the crowd. That was dumb. Dont take away statuses, ensure that the forum moderators and global moderators that want to moderate the forums, actually know and learn how to moderate and not just throw punishments at the accused. Teach them what is a joke and what is trolling, what is banter and what is insulting, how to react to situations and how to quell uproars and uprisings. A little effort is a far better solution than taking away the communities toys because it's easier. REP Rep also had no logical purpose. But it was a nice thing to have, a nice thing to look at and think "Hey I guess my posts are pretty good." Accumulative rep is good to determine the overall quality of your posts and ideas, upvotes are a good way to convey a simple opinion without typing up an essay, something people rarely want to do and sometimes it is something that people arent allowed to do due to the nature of the thread. It is once a gain a nice little thing to have that makes people happy. Why was it removed? Because apparently people shitpost and troll and are mean and insult people for the ONLY PURPOSE of gaining rep. Once again I will repeat. Bullshit. People do not post mean things and insult people and shitpost for the sole purpose of rep. People that do that enjoy rep because it shows them how many giggles they get. But we still have upvotes, so they can still see that regardless. People that troll and shitpost are always and I literally mean ALWAYS in a skype group with a clique or friends, they do it for their sake, to get laughs out of them and to be funny. Removing accumulative rep has solved nothing and has improved NOTHING. It is yet another example of taking away people's toys in the hopes of making moderator jobs easier. But it has solved nothing and will solve nothing. I did this, not for rep or for giggles, but because it is the truth and in all my time on LoTC I have never seen something so ill advised and badly thought through. Even if it is an experiment.

The Druidic Order 200 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Druid Puns or Riot!! Looks like this is a poplar opinion! I'm rooting for their return, and honestly stumped as to why they were removed at all. Seems like you can't cedar forest for the trees. Call me a sap but ultimately it's your deciduous. With fronds like yew who needs anemones? Oak, maybe that one was a stretch, I'm going out on a limb here so I'll stop now before yew get sycamore of these puns. Just give us back status updates, I willow you one.

Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Keep statuses out. Everytime some random event happens (wars)that cause people to throw forum shitstorms they'll use statuses to make childish passive aggressive remarks and attack other players. What's going to happen if new players who haven't even joined the server yet see this? He's going to see the toxic behavior and walk the other way. Even if you did delete such posts, the damage is done and we lost new players. Remove upvotes as well. Removing rep alone isn't going to to fix anything and you'll still see people making **** post for upvotes. Keep down votes out because we cannot trust the community to use it the way it's intended. We'll still see a repeat of the Derrick incident and back then, the community wasn't as nasty as it is now. If you're going to bring back downvotes make it so it shows who is down voting the person. everblue2er101 906 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Return statuses for the sake of trivia. And people having a place to post their random stuff. We've seen what happened to Off-Topic already, it wasn't pretty. Rep is a toss-up. Yes, it does in part lead to people posting purely for rep but also gives a nice mood boost.
