Republic of India

 

The disease was a curse upon India. High population cities were hit hard, and the countryside was rife with the sickly. Health care was given, and quarantines enacted. It was too little too late, and the disease spread and spread and spread. President Devi himself was ill, and had to lead from a hospital bed. The Army holed up in their bases and ships, and kept all away at threat of guns. Indian territories given in the treaty of Versailles are hit less hard, being more spread out in population. They get a good portion of available help however, in hopes to placate them.

 

The Indian army reserves are sent back home, as the war is over. The Oceanic Empire  was a titanic threat, and India sought to fix that. Offering a military alliance, the government hoped to forget the past and form an alliance as Devi came closer to death. The Indian navy sets sail to protect trade routes, and stay away from infected people. Even though the Imperium was a hopeful ally, the borders were less guarded then they should be, and infected poured into China, spreading the infection through the nuclear land that is.

 

The growing empire in Africa concerned the Indian government. They had been given a portion of the middle east out of trust for their moderate behavior. The African's were opposite, though they preached golden rays of words. The Africans were imperialist, and the worst was they were predating on their own kind. Non violent aid is sent to rebels  and refugees of the United African Empire.

 

Indian trade is opened to any who would have it, and a company is formed of trade ships. Planned to be modern, enormous, and functional yet cost efficient, Indian trade ships called Waka's would offer their services. Research into the relatively easy project begins ((3 pages?)) All nations are offered the ability to have the Indian ships transport their goods for them for a varying price depending on conditions.  Not only would this be more cost efficient, but they would no longer have to tie up ships of their own for transporting or guarding ships and goods of their own.

MOD POST

 

Virus-H1N1346 "Creelitas"

 

The precautions came too late. Slow. There would be no end in sight, at least for now. The disease spread rapidly, mutating and changing as it passed from person to person. First signs were strange violet rashes followed by pupil dilation and insomnia. Then the cysts begin to form, and that is when the end has come. Within 36 hours of the formation of cysts, the organs begin to shut down and the victim dies. The cysts then burst, a thick white puss pouring from the wound and causing the disease to spread in areas where bodies are not properly disposed. 

 

As of right now, the disease is on every continent, nearly every country is reporting at least one case and no cure has been found and any progress is incredibly slow due to the rapid mutation which the disease sees. There are several world leaders infected, including President Devi and due to his refusal to let his son go immediately, President Baker has come down with the disease. 

 

The nations most horribly infected are the United Kingdom, Mexico, the United States, and India with Indonesia, France, and Germany at high risk. The African continent has been relatively free of the disease as not many have traveled to the region. Cases that have been reported there have been quickly dealt with by local officials mostly because of experience with ebola and disposal of such corpses.

Italy Reaction Post:

Italy quickly shuts down all border activity within it's Empire, not allowing anyone to enter its nation. Any signs of infection lead to deportation to Corsica which has been turned into a small island for infected people to try and function as a group. Airdrops are dropped everyonce in awhile but only with goods, no non-infected humans touch any of the infected that live on the island. Riots quickly break out but are beat down by police, instituting martial law, they would not fall into the anarchy!

The president cried, to roars of disdain; the throngs of people - a relative sea - had flooded into the square mere hours after the speech had been prepared. Lesotho had fallen the day before, trampled underfoot of a surprise advance in Commune militarism. Now they had come, waving the banners of the South African nation to celebrate the triumph;

 

"Slaves to government! They obey! Needlessly shambling through existence! The chains offered sanctuary and safety, yet they still carried the brand of their master's contempt."

 

Cheering, amidst the masses. 

 

"I do not offer safety! I do not entertain sanctuary! I offer will! I offer choice! I offer freedom!"

 

The President boomed his voice across the square, allowing for a temporary stillness, to his mind; the masses remained, their voice singular, one; a booming bass to the orchestra of victory.

 

"No longer need we court the parasite, who would demand, take, and take! From Johannesburg to Cape Town, the shackles of government are broken! I offer you South Africa! I offer you the Commune! All you need do is have the will to take it!"

 

"The will to shape nations! The will to climb! The Ladder beckons! We are all climbing it! Do not content yourselves with the bottom rung or risk being trodden over."

 

"The face of this plague, I know, brings cause for concern,"

 

Murmured agreement. Solemnness, now; they all knew of the sickness. They all feared the sickness.

 

"The era of the individual is upon us! Yet we must take steps to counter this foul pox, before it scourges us from the face of the earth! This is the time for Man; his solutions! His innovations! Not for Government! Their stumbling bureaucracy, their inept flailing; their sick, ambling attempts to contain an illness when they are the only true plague!"

 

The roaring. It wrung deafening yet sweet; a cocktail of the senses. The president dared a smile;

 

"You shall have more than was promised! You shall see liberty!"

 

And with that he strode from the stage, into the rafters.

Commune Actions

 

• All industry outside of the locality of Johannesburg is sold off to private investors at a discounted rate; intended to encourage foreign capital to pour into the Commune.
• A large series of state grants is offered to the man or industry that can devise some vaccination or cure for the rampart virus.
• Every state service including gas, healthcare and transport are sold off in 'parcels' to separate companies; intended to encourage competition, the measures may well gradually develop into a monopoly.
• Attempts to institute a sort of 'National Service' whereby each man over the age of eighteen is trained and drilled in order to form the army reserve is passed.
• An envoy is sent to Ethiopia, inquiring as to the nation's intent and inviting their President on a state visit to Johannesburg to discuss the 'future of Africa'.
• An envoy is sent to Great Britain, offering renewed Commonwealth alliances and trade agreements to better  protect one another's positions, as well as encouraging British capitalists to invest in what the president promises to be a 'South African boom'.
• Attempts are made to compile a list of symptoms of the illness, to be relayed to a central meeting of cabinet. Borders remain open, but sea ports are under heavy guard.
• The President tours every major city giving talks and speeches; a national campaign is launched attempting to encourage militarism and nationalism, calling the assent of the Commune the 'second national awakening'.

Republic of Ethiopia

The President looked over the federal balcony of the Ethopian parliament building. Many had gathered to commemorate Ibrahim's victory in the recent elections. Adorned in a robe with the colors of Ethiopia he spoke out.

 

"For too long, we have been suppressed by society! Ethiopia was once an empire, an empire I say! It can be so once again but not if we remain pacifists in a world gone bye of this tradition. To thrive now, we must go to war, but not as mongerers to stretch our ego and oppress others - no, as liberators, as liberators of the Nigerian menace! They will never stand against them, and so it is only right that we absorb them into our land and offer our protection so that the marching Nigerians are driven off! Will you join me or will you turn your back against me? You voted me as your leader, and I intend to make it count! I will see you all with a throne of your own to sit upon!"

 

 

With that, he displayed a map of Somalia, Eritrea and Djibouti to his advisers. Small, weak countries in the far East of Africa - bordering countries that must be subjugated if Ethiopia is to defend itself against her enemies. No declaration would be made. Advancements would be quick and decisive as troops occupy the three countries and easily subdue their meager military.

 

Three theaters would be formed from the HQ in the capital. Three theaters named Adwa, the invasion force for Somalia, Alitena, the invasion force for Eritrea and finally, Agaro, the invasion force for Djibouti, the smallest and weakest of the three countries. The forces would be commanded to strike at night - fast, and decisive. An abrupt end to the war, with orders to take civilian prisoners if civilian resistance was met. No civilian casualties unless absolutely necessary.

 

In response to the South African envoy, the plans for the wide invasion of East African countries is not revealed and instead their intent is said to be the prosperity and glory of Ethiopia - and of course, the expanding of the Orthodox Christian church. President Ibrahim prepares for a journey to South Africa and Prime Minister Samuel Raha takes control for now.

Greater Germany

 

In the first month, borders were closed and flights grounded. No one but military and medical personnel could enter or leave the country. Scientists began studying the disease from a case imported under quarantine from the United Kingdom. No advancements were made - the virus would mutate too quickly. 

 

In the second month, the first cases of the disease popped up in Munich - a family of British-Muslim descent had immigrated to the city, living in an apartment block. The mother would stay at home, whilst the father ran a corner shop opposite a train station, and the children would take the bus to their secondary school, which would almost always be crowded. By the end of the month, the infected population was estimated to be six thousand.

 

 

On the third month, Munich was put under martial law. The city now had an almost 85% infected rate, with over three thousand fatalities. Upon the discovery of the cysts, Armed Forces - obviously protectively geared - move in to properly discard of the bodies. Those found or given up are loaded onto trains which take them to a mass incinerator just north of the city, in Dacau. Over seventeen quarantined ghettos are set up, with frequent visits from the military. Curfew is 6 am to 6 pm - any caught outside post-curfew would be arrested... if infected, shot.

 

 

Month four, and the streets of Munich were filled with rioters, protesters and hooligans. Most of them didn't even know what they were rioting for. Death tolls in the city reached three hundred thousand. Bodies had to be burned on the spot, and 'quarantine zones' were firebombed. All news TV is banned from the area. Researchers make a breakthrough, studying the genomes and such of the pathogen. The Oceanic Imperium, all of METO and the NAC are pleaded with to search for a cure. The military patrols the country, though another outbreak is expected to occur in Hamburg and Prague within a year.

The Oceanic Imperium

 

 

The Imperium's worst fears had been realized. The unpredictability of the virus had given rise to a new strain, one that was deadly to the majority it infected. Precious few countries had agreed to work together on fighting the disease as of now, which was disappointing, but no matter. This was Oceania, the largest and greatest country on Earth. They would solve it themselves if they needed to. There was a new war now. The war on Creelitas.

 

All incoming planes and ships are now held in quarantine for 12 hours before their passengers are allowed to disembark. All borders are closed with only a few, quarantined, checkpoints. The imperial army is the largest in the world, but even they cannot hope to keep the huge Siberian border fully patrolled, and so standing orders are to keep satellite surveillance on larger groups of refugees on the other side, and apprehend them immediately if they attempt to cross, using deadly force if necessary. Russia is asked to cooperate by preventing their citizens from traveling towards the east.

 

The Imperium had the advantage over other nations of keeping a very close watch over their citizens. Residency was assigned, and to travel required a permit. This makes it easier to limit the spread of the disease inside the empire. If cases are reported in a particular district, outgoing transportation immediately stops and military forces are dispatched. In cases where it's possible, these forces then curb the spread of the disease through the community, using any means possible. But in a few cases, the situation is already beyond repair, and as there is no cure, more drastic measures are taken...

 

The security measures are not reported to the outside population, who are informed only that the virus is loose and are educated on proper hygiene. For this reason, there are no riots in the Imperium outside of the infected areas, where the people are in no condition to resist.

 

The imperial foreign ministry requests that Germany's findings on the virus be sent to complement their own. Although no details are given, it is made clear that the Imperium is working on a solution.

 

Amidst the global crisis, a single division of the imperial army, 40,000 strong, lands on the shores of Madagascar. The island nation is not expected to offer much resistance, and the commander declares it to be a home-ruled imperial colony, and immediately establishes bases of operations across the country, particularly on the west coast. Events of possible importance were underway in Africa, and the Emperor planned to keep his eye on it. Similarly, regular reports are sent from the base on the tip of Yemen, detailing the events happening across the strait.

 

For while the world burned, the Indonesian Kingdom, the one true Asian dominion, the Oceanic Imperium, would stand strong, ever watchful against the threats that even now lapped at its heels.

Russia

Disease, the fault of humanity, was not something Russia was too familiar with. Their colder climates slowed such plagues giving Russia the time to close it's borders. It could survive for some time on it's own; however, the world suffered greatly and already some cases were popping up in Russia. A letter is sent to all the nations.

"To the leaders of the world,

Russia will be spear heading the operation for a cure in a remote, heavily guarded position in the Ural Mountains. All nations who support the research of the cure with your best scientists and financial support will receive the cure upon it's completion. All citizens who wish for a better chance of surviving are welcome in Siberia where supplies will be air dropped to them. This is a difficult time in our world, but we will prevail."

République Français

 

 

France would not be lost. Not now. Not ever. The Fifth Republic would stand tall from this crisis and hold true as a beacon of hope to the rest of the world. This was what President de Guise had told his people just before dying, bedridden and deathly ill. Still, France pushed one. An election would be too dangerous, gathering so many people at polling stations across the nation. Instead the Prime Minister, Louis Colbert, assumed the office and maintained the seat of Prime Minister. It was declared that the executive branch would no longer consist of the two positions and instead one man would rule as Grand Consul.

 

Meanwhile, Northern France was in shock. Infected attempting to flee the Isles fled to the Normandy, infecting thousands of Francophones along the coast of France. These people then fled the tide of Englishmen, fleeing further south and into Spain. Soon the entire French Empire was infected and panic began to set in. Nearly 2,000,000 people had died in less than six months, with millions more sick or at risk. There was no knowing how the disease could be stopped. The French government needed to act.

 

Military assets were deployed, Richelieu drones were produced in mass, but rather than their intimidating military form they were stripped down of their weaponry and the VI was given a voice. The system, now renamed Alli, spoke to the people and interacted with them. Richelieu "Savior" Variants were placed on every street corner, the soothing voice of a young French woman filled the streets and guided people to safety and encouraged stability. They would be key to maintaining at least some normality.

 

At the same time, more heavy handed tactics were used in the African territories. Foreign Legionnaires roamed the streets in their medium exoskeletons which acted as protection from the airborne sickness. They brutalized the population and kept them safe by forcing them to stay inside their homes. Food would be delivered twice a day and feed the family for the entire day, but many days these rations were missed or riots caused them to fall short.

 

Back in France, the city of Marseilles entered lockdown. The port was quarantined and nobody was allowed in or out. Scientists and doctors made the city their hub, the National Guard would defend it until the last man and the French Navy and Marines sat in port, daring any dissenters to attempt something. Here would begin an organized International effort for the cure. 

 

A message is sent to all the World's health organizations and government associations:

 

"Send your doctors via helicopter to land on the Henry IV and then be transported via helicopter to Marseilles to focus a central effort on finding a cure. This is imperative in order to ensure our survival."

The Greater Argentine Federation

The Argentine push through Brazil had been steady and for the most part successful. From the original Uruguayan front and 'Murro de Hierro' line and from the newly established Peruvian flanking front the soldiers pushed on, the dead soldiers replaced by fresh recruits as the slow offensive continued, having taken Goiania and Curitiba and pushing on Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. However, as the demand for manpower for factories and armed service increases, the reserves start to run out and the army is forced to slow down further as the motherland cannot supply an aggressive advancement.

 

However, there were very important matters concerning the nation at home as well. Although the nation had thankfully been relatively lightly hit by the infamous virus, the situation was critical and could explode at any time. What police is available is overworked to maintain calm streets and curfews going from 7am to 8pm. The hardest hit city is Lima in newly occupied Peru and whatever frontline personnel that can be spared is redeployed to institute quarantines and proper body disposal methods. All dead are burned with all their belongings either going to the state after very thorough cleansing or being burnt, depending on value and material. A large quarantine camp is established outside the city in a position surrounded by flatlands to allow easy monitoring and security and to make sure that nobody uncalled for gets out or in. Any escapees are shot without hesitation. Smaller yet similar camps are established across the Federation, chiefly nearby population centers and all serving the same purpose. The disease must not spread. A nationwide stop of international and national traffic ensues as well, any exports being checked, re-checked and re-re-checked before being let in. 

 

Several measures are put in place to make certain that there will be no major outbreaks amongst the packed men of the front. Any sign of disease or infection is responded to with doctor checks and isolation or eventual quarantine camp treatments. Regular circulation and changes in shifts means that no unit is exposed to the primitive frontline conditions for too long yet of course also slows down the advance yet a slow victory is better than a disastrous epidemic.

 

A party of Argentine scientists and doctors are sent to Marseille to meet with the French for an attempted advancement in treatments and towards a possible vaccine, bringing statistics, symptoms and treatments used in Argentina with them to be compared to the French's methods and findings.

The Socialist Union of Nordic States

One benefit of being a centralised, socialist state is that every citizen can be accounted for. After the infection had begun to spread, the government reacted quickly. Land, sea, and air travel was shut down except for special, government approved cases, and for other governments' officials. Any of these people would require medical tests for Ceelitas. The SUNS's best medical scientists, microbiologists, and a few voluntary Ceelitas survivors are sent to FRANCE's Marseilles research centre. Only a couple of doctors are sent as they will be needed to help fight the virus at ground-level.

Within the SUNS, biweekly medical check-ups are mandatory, and state-issued passes are required to move between the countries and larger provinces. They're performed after work shifts, which due to the centralisation of industry, all finish in regular groups, and so it's easy to make sure that they attend. If they don't, HAZMAT-clad police go to their houses to ensure the checkup takes place. As such, any infected are quickly identified. And once they are, they are taken and sent to Svalbard, where they are treated as best as possible and cared for. Once they recover, they're put in post-recovery units for 2 weeks to ensure there's no relapse after they're sent off. After the week has passed with all doubt of potential re-infection, they are allowed to return home. During this period, which could last anywhere from 1 month to 6, they are treated with the utmost dignity and hospitality. They're allowed to video call their families and pursue their own private hobbies during their recovery and post recovery period, provided the hobby isn't dangerous and doesn't mean they mix with other patients, again to prevent inter-infection at the Svalbard Ceelitas Treatment Centre. They are, after all, patients, not prisoners. However, so far the SUNS has been better off than most other nations due to the cold, the lack of mass immigration, and the lack of easy access to the Union's borders, bar Denmark.

Meanwhile, everything else continues as normal, though with a slight drop in productivity due mostly to the small decrease in actual workforce. Research, the station's construction, and the industrialisation of Greenland, though immigration there largely ceased, go on as planned.

The Oceanic Imperium

 

 

Two separate countries had spurned the Emperor's generous offer to host research efforts in his capital, and instead were attempting their own, independent forays into the disease. It was a low-level insult, but it could only hurt them. None of them could possibly know just how advanced the Indonesians had become at altering biological substances in the past 20 years.

Apart from the catastrophic death rate in Mumbai, where the disease could not be stemmed due to the sheer population density, the Imperium has by now managed to keep the epidemic under control. Refugees occasionally cross over from India, but for the most part are caught before they reach population centers.

A response is sent to Russia:
"The imperial army moves for no man save the Emperor."

India's request for an alliance is met with puzzlement, but they are told that such an agreement can be discussed after the current crisis is dealt with.

Meanwhile, the Imperium's projects continue on schedule. At the launch site in Australia, no less than five shuttles shoot into the sky, accompanied by enough drones to keep them protected. Their destination was once again the Copernicus Crater, but this time their mission would last a bit longer. In the cargo holds of these shuttles were the resources needed to establish a permanent base on the moon.

The Republic of Finland

 

President Sauli walked along the halls of the government compound in Helsinki. Finland had been the first to close down borders, but he couldn't stop all coming from Russia or SUNS. When news of the virus spreading in the north and cysts appearing reached the capital, he gave the executive order. Quarantine, kill if need be, and burn the bodies with their possessions. Finland was very spread out, and small communes of people live together, so when one commune is infected the radius is quarantined by exosuit and gas mask clad soldiers. In this manner Finland had stopped Helsinki from being infected, at least for the time being, but it was only a matter of time before they miss an infected. The Finnish population is easily kept from hearing about it from their relatives in the north, and Helsinki remains in a state of ignorant bliss.

 

The Oceanic Imperium and Russia are asked if it would be possible to send Finland the diagrams to the cure should they make one.

The United Kingdom

 

Prime Minster Wilson cussed and yelled in his private chambers as news of the Virus spread, and as it killed... The borders of the United Kingdom where shut down, ports closed and flights cancelled. "Clean-up" were ordered to kill if deemed necessary, they would burn the bodies as well.

 

Ten of the top scientist are sent to the French Research Facility, caring with them samples of the dead.

 

In other news!

The Automated Weapon System is completed it will act as the Long Range artillery and Anti Air gun the British military was needing.  

 

The drones have also finished after a 8-12 years of work ((can't really remember))

The Oceanic Imperium

Macquarie Island, Southern Ocean

"Your Majesty, it is with great pride that I write to inform you that it is within our power to halt the spread of the virus now known as Creelitas. By modifying some of our more benign experimental strains, we have developed a counter-virus, which should allow those infected to produce antibodies to fight off the more dangerous disease.

 

To mass-produce this is beyond our capabilities here, however. I humbly recommend that you commission biofactories elsewhere of you wish to meet the threat quickly."

 

It was delightful news. In years past, the scientists of earth would have labored and scrambled to find some specific cocktail of antibodies that could fight a particular strain of a disease: a vaccine. And after that, the virus could simply mutate and bypass all their efforts. This was a different age.

 

The secret work of the Imperium proved that soon, humanity would no longer be at the whims of whatever biological forces threatened to destroy it. Over 20 years of work had gone into such capability, and it was well worth it.

 

It's several months before the cure is able to be produced in any large quantities, but once it is it is distributed to all affected parts of the empire, where it delivers a quick end to the domestic crisis. Then, and only then, does the Imperium announce to the world that the Creelitas virus can now be destroyed.

 

Copernicus Crater-Moon

 

It was a small thing, for now. The moon base only consisted of a few air-filled modules that housed the workers, but there were plans to make it much larger. By the time it was finished, the plan was for it to be self-sustaining, productive, and useful for greater things. Drones labor outside at all times, working to build a launch system too fire combat drones into space from the lunar surface. Every week, a small fleet of shuttles arrives, bringing supplies and building materials...
