[Breed Lore] The Puxie

For eons humans have walked side by side with wolves, they have been constant companions, protectors, and fellow hunters. Time and time again we breed the most favorable of these majestic beasts, creating unique hounds more suited for the task at hand. Some better at tracking scent, others a stronger bite, still others with great height. We shape them and mold them to fit into the purposes for which we desire.

The Puxie is a breed developed not for hunting, or fighting, or guarding. No this is not a fierce creature at all, thought it would claim far different if it could speak. Barely a foot tall, these balls of fluff were bred for one thing, and one thing only. To be adorable.

With thick, fluffy double coats and large expressive eyes, the Puxie endears itself to others with its cute round face and petite frame. Highly social, they bond quickly to humans, and demand constant attention. They’re intelligent, but rather headstrong, leading to some difficulty in training. However given encouragement and reward, can be taught a multitude of tricks, and with their active natures, love to show them off!

However as sweet as they are, these dogs are far from perfect. A few defects are still deeply ingrained within the breed. Due to the size and shape of their head, breeding is very difficult. Often painful, and even deadly, females are usually only bred once due to these risks. Following this, the weak muscles of their face can result in an eye popping out of its orbit. So take care in hugging your Puxie, and do not allow very young children to play with them, as their delicate forms can be easily broken in the rough-housing small children are known for.

Highly intelligent and social, they demand constant entertainment. If you do not tend to them often, a Puxie will often find ways to play itself, resulting in many chewed up shoes and torn up gardens. Its highly advised to buy them in pairs because of this, as the two will play and keep each other company when they cannot settle in your lap.

Puxies are a very vocal breed, hosting a wide range of yips, barks, howls, and grumbles. Some might even assume the tiny dogs are trying to speak back to you! However if not properly trained, these tiny puffs can become noisy little terrors that will never be quiet. But, if properly tended, they can serve as wonderful alert dogs, raising the alarm when danger enters the home and informing family of an intruder.. as well as larger household dogs with bigger teeth.

Despite not being an ideal guard dog, these little pups would tell you they’re the biggest, baddest hound around. They can and will gladly throw themselves into a fight if allowed to, resulting in messy death and easy injury, so take care to teach your Puxie to heel while its young! Not only will they throw themselves into the jaws of death, but into bowls of food. Puxies are gluttons, and will not stop eating. If given an endless amount of food, a Puxie will easily eat itself to death within a few hours, so maintain a proper diet, and be careful of too many treats! Though a few table scraps now and again couldn’t hurt.

Puxies come in two varieties, the common full tail that will curl over their back, or the rarer puff tail that is only an inch or so of wiggly fluff. There is also the common brown eyes, or the uncommon blue.

Puxies also come in a fairly sized range of colors, and these are just a few;

White and Black:

Seal and Golden

Tricolor and Silver:

and Marble-Coated:

A note on marble coats, is that any color can be a marble. But not every color can be a solid. Ginger and Blue are coat colors exclusive to the marble pattern of Puxie. This means you could have a Seal Marble, or a Black Marble. But you could never have a Blue Tricolor, or a solid Ginger.

There is also the sad fact that most Puxies born solid white, are born deaf. So take care when selecting a white Puxie, and check to see it responds to your voice.

Pros:

Tiny, can fit two in your lap very easily

Fluffy, you could just die.

Very social, bond to humans very easily and love them

Intelligent, they can be taught lots of fun tricks

Vocal, can become great alert dogs

Cons:

White ones are usually deaf

They're difficult to breed

They often have eye problems because of their skull shape

Need constant attention or a companion

Glutton, so you have to be careful of their diet or they'll overeat

Napoleon Complex, think they are bigger than they are

Mischievous, keep them busy, or be ready to lose your shoes.

Vocal, they will yap at just about anything, or even nothing

OOC Note: For the time being the breed will be exclusive to my character, at least until more breeding pairs are sold. If you have a male and female Puxie, feel free to breed them and sell puppies! They will be represented by a renamed wool-block in-game, since they are too small to use a wolf as their representation.

On a more serious note,
