I think the server could benefit from both. The current map is just too large. A new map could easily rectify the issue. But at the same time, this map still may have more in store? To be honest, that was my only argument. This map hasn't been utilized properly to create active rp hubs. A new map of the proper size with good guidelines can change that, making roleplay more accessible.

Wait wtf are you talking about TOO large? Lol are you serious everything is to close I walk 1 mint from the Orcish captial and reach the Dwarf capital it takes me 3 mints to get to the Human capital.

Lets go back to Aegis, it was **** lets go back t a map like Auslon.

Big map with fast travel, a map that is mc generated like anthos and some places use sniper on them thats all you need.

Also road rp sucks and has no meaning

  • Road RP? What road RP? People mostly just walk past each other nowadays. Not to mention the plots right next to the road draw people away before they can get to their capital.
  • I personally think the cities are way too close. Going to another race capital should be an adventure, encouraged to travel with friends. A longer distance would also encourage people to stay within their own cities and keep/prosper RP there.
  • I feel as though there isn't much to explore in Athera and there is nowhere near as much beauty here as there was in Anthos.
  • Perhaps there wouldn't be so many wars and such if we had a bigger map, people would stay in their own lands, wouldn't bother travelling far and wouldn't be a nuisance/cause chaos to other nations. You'd only need to travel to get information from another nation or to pursue your character's dream or something of that ilk.
  • A bigger map would also allow for more event space! Currently I feel as though the ET themselves are restricted by the bland landscape we have..
  • I wish we could have a large map with brilliant race capitals so people would want to stay in their nation and would have no need to travel out if necessary. Each capital could be custom made and each would have it's pros and cons. Lovely woodland realm for Woodies/Darkies (?), Large, strong stone halls in a mountain for Dwarves (Or in a canyon type thing like they had in the Fringe?), Shiny silver city for High Elves, Fancy big citadel for humans etc.
  • I don't really agree with fast travel. If you want to go somewhere, do it in RP! Follow the road, find a path. Meet new people. Go on an adventure, grab a tent from the tent plugin. Pack your cauldron and go!

Just my thoughts. People may disagree, but  :genuis:

Edit: Too conclude, I don't think a map change is necessary. Though I believe it could be prettied up quite a bit and the whole nations being too close thing is something for the Admins/GM's to discuss and decide.

Everyone makes Aegis out like it was the best map, but really it was sh*t in comparison to the others. The difference is the people who played on it had nothing to compare it to and so they found it amazing, same thing goes for the RP that took place there. Asulon was brilliant in terms of size, but wasn't built with the care and detail of Athera or Anthos. In all honesty I think Anthos has been the best map to date (and I'm rating it simply as a map, not by the RP that happened there), but if we get a new one Id prefer it to be closer to Asulon's size.

Erm Athera has to be one of our smallest and most compact main map to date.

Hello! Mind if I provide some insight?

This map IS designed to be the "permanent" map (or as close to as the server would get. It was designed to address a number of issues with older maps, namely the lengthy travel times between each settlement and the revival of road roleplay.

Oh god why. If this map is supposed to be "permanent," then the policies around regions and whatnot were so horribly designed that it's basically game over for this map. A faint glimmer of hope is offered by the new road plots but just... I'm not going to write an essay on the specifics of why I really hate this map, I just do and do not want it to be permanent.

Edit: That being said, I think a map around the same size but with better geographical planning, and better policies around regions would be about as ideal as you can get.

Edit #2: http://prntscr.com/61oaet

That lol ^ is one of the main issues and why 'road rp' fails and always will fail

Map sucks. Map sucks hard. It's actually a good thing that everyone wants to go off and do their own thing. No one takes care off stuff like they do their own.

When someone says "Road RP" I think of bandit pvpers. Cities are extremely close, and the world doesn't feel like someplace people should be living in. I agree with all of your points. I feel as if tents are only useful if you need a temporary home until you get your own home. I feel like there should be a use to "make camp" and set up for the night. I think we might benefit from a massive map. I loved how they did Malinor in anthos. It just felt so elvish, with the huge trees, and the large forests surrounding it that hid so many secrets. If they could do something like that, that'd be great.

I doubt a change of scenery will do anything. The issues with 3.0/4.0 were/are ingrained within the features and staff, not the backdrop.

I agree with most people when they say this map is to small. In my opinion it doesn't really feel realistic to have everyone SOOOoo jammed packed together, it feels like we are almost living on top of each other. Granted the next map or extension should be slightly or even a half size larger just spread the capitals out a bit. Perhaps spread them into different corners*shrug*? Another thing is I feel like this world lacks 'natural' beauty', for example the high elf area lacks the classic elven...elven landscape. It feels rigid and constricted and it feels kind of odd for for such a reclusive race to be literally a few steps away from the main road, granted the builders of the area currently are doing a fantastic job.

But to halt my rambling this guy pretty much summed up everything I had to say.

A new map is pointless: all it would do is divert staff attention away from the present, kill RP due to the spectre of a total wipe onto a new map hanging over everything and more importantly not actually fix anything.

We've already had THREE changes to the "perfect map". Look how that went. It doesn't exist.

Identify the problems in Athera and fix them in Athera. A new map is just a terrain change and a massive waste of resources and staff attention.

Finding a way to include expansions (much like World of Warcraft) would be fairly beneficial. We wouldn't have to leave this world, and those who want to go someplace else could do so as well.

There is so much to it, obviously, but as we will all discuss.

Well if we are looking for ideas for a new map... I have been working on this map due to boredom.

I know its pretty big... but If we had fast travel and a good storyline to it. We'd be set. enough place. But regions and nexus might be the biggest pain. But hey I threw out my 2 cents. If not a new map maybe some good events.

I think "Massive" would be a better word to use in this scenerio. Looks like something based of an Avatar the last airbender map. <3

I completely disagree with a map change, honestly I don't think that the map or the server is the problem, but the community itself. It is ofcourse reasonable that most people don't want to change their point of view, which is why this whole "new map" discussion is even on someones to-do list. Let the current map stay, and change the way people see RP, which is not as something distasteful, but rather a gate to more diverse and interesting stuff.

- Remove Nexus.

- Kick (some) of the ET in their behind.

- Kickstart the GMs. (Aka: Make them do something).

Meh, who am I to talk. Just throwing opinions out there.
