Of Dwarves and Men

Who fights for the greater good in this war? The answer is clear.

For all their cries of righteous justice, fighting against a so called oppressive Empire, Vanderguan has shown they are not above barbarism. They have committed the execution of an unarmed diplomat, who had approached the Urguanite aligned Orvars offering and olive branch of peace. Oren had offered them safety and freedom in return for their neutrality, yet out of savage hatred they executed and flayed an innocent man, for no other reason than his place of origin.

What is the difference between Dwarf and Man?

Blind Zeal.

My kind has long memories. I remember a time when the kingdoms of dwarves and valah were staunch allies. That was a time when the White Rose were at large, as were their brutal treatment of the elves. Sanctuaries for my kind were increasingly rare.

I did not think there would ever come a time when I would align myself with any empire of valah.

Yet, with one fateful execution of a belligerent dwed lord on a dark Salvian street, everything changed. I held no stance in the first great war, nor the exodus that followed. But I watched on as a century long rivalry bloomed. Soon, we would all have to pick a side.

I fight with Oren now. By choice. But this was not always the case, there was a time when I did the bidding of the high council of the now defunct Princedom of Malinor, where blind hatred led us to fight alongside Urguan in one their many countless wars against the Empire. Yet another when I had to fend off the iron hand of Kalenz Uradir, turning to the dwed for allies to preserve my kind. I have fought alongside the Empire in my past as well. One of few elven auxillaries out of the lower districts of Tahn’siol during the brutal wars of the Fringe.

I’ve fought for both sides in this perpetual struggle between dwarf and man, and that long century of war, I’ve had to analyze both sides, I really can do nothing more but condemn the dwarves.

Both sides show hostility to one another, true. Yet, for the most part the wars I’ve seen between the two are perpetuated by Urguan.

Urguan, who continuously provoke the sleeping dragon.

Urguan, whom historically prey on the race of men at their weakest, yet cry oppression when they must face them at their strongest.

Urguan, whom value pride over their people’s lives.

Urguan, who do not understand the concept of loss. Who refuse to see the reality of setback. Who remain staunchly prideful in the face of massive reduction in territory and life.

This ‘grand’ kingdom has leadership with mentality akin to stubborn children. They have had over 100 years to learn their lesson, yet they never do. War after war erupts between dwarf and man. Time after time again the Dwedmar are beaten back. Time after time again they rise once more, beggining the cycle anew.

“This time it will be different!”

But of course, it never is. Much as any resident of the newly formed “Vanderguan” would like to point and jeer at the Empire, calling them oppressors and warmongers, they must remember that the dwarves are just as, if not more likely to cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.

Peace will never exist as long as an independent Kingdom of Urguan exists, free to declare war on man at their own whim.

Dwarves shall say “freedom or death”, as if they have decided for all residents of their land and Vandoria’s that death is preferable to life. As if their nation was only made up of bloodhungry warriors, not wives, children, farmers and craftsmen. A poisonous attitude to have especially when Urguan started this current war in the first place.

I suppose I have sacrificed my freedom. Yet while the dwarves fight on desperately, losing land and life in a war they are too stubborn to admit they are losing in, my kind prosper. With our own laws, traditions, rulers and even religion. The passion of the wood elves remains unbroken. Together with the Orenians, who have changed for the better, we will bring stability back to this world.

I will take a stable realm over a ‘free’ one anyday. Especially if all the Dwarven people do with their freedom is perpetuate their BLIND ZEAL over the Empire of Man.

Peace will never exist until they are stopped. The Empire must win this war.

Signed,

An elf who fights for lasting peace.

"A good man." says Oscar quite poignantly, clearly emotionally driven by the cathartic speech delivered by his Elven brethren.

"Well composed." The Prince would say quietly to himself as he took a copy for himself. Folding it up and sliding it into belt to be stored at a later time.

The elves have certainly changed for the better.

Cloak covered in the dirt and mud of a long roads travel, Dizzy arrives just in time to hear yet another loudly submit their two cents.

"Speeches certainleh are all da rage roight now. Evereh lesser noble, national extremist, military sergeant, and blessed 'oly man has to say t'eir piece."

He scoffs, removing his travel worn cloak.

"W'en will t'ese bloodeh fools learn t'at more bloods'ed is nae the answer"

Face contorting into a rather peculiar grimace, he glances towards the vast sky above

"An ahm nae talkin about Oren, t'ough tu propaganda could use t'a odd bit o-fact checkin. Tu Grand Kingdom may maintain ets 'freedom', but at tu cost o-ets people. Zonach slowly drifts toward the shores of Valior. He had been on an island out at sea for the past 10 years. Zonach slowly looks out over yonder and sees a island. He sees ships in the dock. He yells thirstfuly.

“Lo, anehon, plehs elo meh.”

Zonach finally reaches shore and climbs the steps of the massive city. The first words he hears are the words of An elf. He Smiles at him and nods.

“Not anodes war. Az we nut had ‘nuff? We need peace. Hail the pax urguan."

Zonach heads into his city, trying to find a clan, suitable for him.

A quick postage is put up in response to the propaganda

"There was once a time when the Wood Elves called out. They called out for anyone to help them in an effort to preserve their sovereignty. The call was answered by the realm of Dwarves and they immediately took aid to those in need. Now at one point I called this man, Artimec Camoryn, a friend. I dined with him and so did many of my brothers. I stood by him against overwhelming odds as I defended his people and taught them to fight."

"Artimec was a good man, but as with many of us, he was not without faults. The effort turned sour as the defense was turned against him. A single loss at a fortress caused Art to become afraid. He immediately surrendered to the forces that sought to conquer him and left the people who had come to his aid out in the water."

"He promised to right the wrongs he had caused us as a looming war descended upon the dwarves. This war however, was not by our doing. The war was to defend who we considered friends and some even kin."

"Artimec Camoryn is a coward who would seek to denounce those who defend their homeland when he failed to defend his."

The postage ends

A personal letter sent to Artimec Camoryn arrives on his doorstep

"I care not for the lazy babbling and propaganda from wherever. However, do not, ever, insult my people as you intend to. Whatever the result of this war. I guarantee you. You will hurt."
