I'd like to thank everyone who attended that incredible warclaim. It was absolutely exhilarating to see over 310 players online at the same time.

 

In a single battle area spread across maybe 40 chunks we had gathered 220+ players (110+ vs 110+), this is an incredible feat both as a community and as a server. These numbers are virtually unknown to any even highly popular PvP servers. Moments before the battle occurred we were at 20/20Tps without bandwidth issue and with 270 milliseconds average ping.

 

Whether or not you were victorious I hope that each of you that participated were able to enjoy your experience on the battlefield.

 

With this said, I’d like to say in terms of server performance the warclaim was unfortunately not free of issue. However, we were able to gather a fair amount of statistics and narrow down the cause of the problems quite a fair bit. The thing to keep in mind is that for the duration of the warclaim, less than half of our maximum bandwidth was never exceeded, cpu consistently ran at near 20 ticks per second, and direct console connections to the server yielded immediate response even at the worst moments.

 

So if our dedicated hardware was running well what is the issue?

 

We have been able to narrow the issue down between our Anti-DDOS provider (unlikely), Spigot (likely), and player-side internet (very-unlikely). While we can’t say for sure what causes the problem it seems to be a packet-bottleneck incited by Spigot and to be localized to Minecraft. We will be making several changes in anticipation for any future events that we hope will help significantly alleviate the latency issue.

 

501warhead is also taking into account issues to do with glitchy or malfunctioning battle-equipment (some explosive arrows and a bit more) and is organizing their resolution with the Development Team. We anticipate most of this to be complete in time for any future battles, and any server maintenance we should require will likely be limited and swift.

In fact, we were running on plain ol' craftbukkit at the time. Running on craftbukkit is no longer possible after the DMCA takedown but we have a few alternatives we are looking at.

I enjoy that the team is getting on to the problems. But do we have a date for server maintenance? Its the only thing I couldnt find xD

Glad you're getting to what's causing the server to die.

Something else I'd like to ask, do different professions scale better with crafting time per level than others? And if so, why is that the case?
