~ The Lycanthropic Affliction ~

Legends of the twisted beings roaming the outlandish and vastly unexplored woods, murderous and merciless. Storybooks for children evoking nightmares, which for those living far from civilization became exceedingly real. It is said that in days lost, texts few in number that in the olden days these creatures, known then merely as monsters of the woodlands would come up to farming estates early in the morning, shrouded under the dead of night to slaughter and feast upon cattle, sleeping drunks and lost travelers. No man, woman or child was safe alone in the darkness, wandering about a forest, or even within their own village. Described as canine in appearance, it is noted and known that their look is similar to that of a jackal, or a coyote- sometimes compared to a wolf or fox-like-creature.

Our story begins in a small village known as Knoxvil, boasting a mere fifteen houses, all of which sported thatch roofs and surrounding farmland and cattle pens. No form of defence, nor forces, the nearest city miles to the north. Constructed in a wide circular plains land, surrounded entirely by thick forest spanning out for hundreds of acres. The founder of the village, and it’s purpose are entirely unknown, seemingly naught but an autonomous farming community. The leader then was a man by the name of Cyrus Klae, hardened and red-necked, a farmer like his father, and father before him. A leader, not comparable to any form of Mayor, nor certainly not a King, but at best a judge, and an administrator. His responsibilities lay with the organization of crop rotation, and collection of excess goods to be sent to the local city, six miles down the rough muddy pathway they considered a road.

Up until this point, the existence of any such creature, as they may today be known as Lycanthropes was entirely fairytail, passed along by word of mouth, epics told fireside to the village children, scared as they were, and the adults merely chuckled at their childhood imaginations. It was known to see the occasional man, garb dirtied and torn, face looking as though he witnessed a ghost, rambling on of a great beast, something of a Kha’Tigrasi, yet different in it’s being. . . never believed of course, called insane, and sent about his way. Why would any reasonable man believe such silly ramblings?

It wasn’t until the children began to disappear that villagers took into consideration those once laughed-at ramblings, the man once told them, a short yet informative tale of a great golden beast of the woodlands, it would sneak into the lonesome villages in the wee hours of the morning, as the farmers went out to tend to the very beginning of their daily duties, breaking into the homes and kidnapping or slaughtering the children and wives, of course the farmer tried to save his family, but the beasts always worked far too quickly, by the time they arrived, pitchfork in hand their kin were long gone.

And so under the watchful eye of Cyrus the village of Knoxvil took to the implementation of some defences to try and stop the murder of their younglings before the future of the village all but vanished. Doors were secured with heavier door bars, those working in the early morning or late evening equipped with spears or axes, and a small palisade was constructed around the village and it’s surrounding farmland, two ways in, and two ways out at each end of their land. For the following months, their efforts seemed to produce a pleasing outcome, yet this seemingly lasting peace was not so.

It ended one rather calm evening, Cyrus speaking casually with the people of their village in the square as they celebrated their annual harvest, when a screech erupted from the western gate, the watchman lay gored, nearly torn in half as four of those great beasts released a fear-evoking roar, charging furiously towards the group, by morning only two were left breathing, the remainder eaten, or lay deceased, their innards spread about the square.

Such however is only one of numerous similar tales of the workings of these beasts, it would seem they most often travel alone, rarely seen working in small groups as they did in Knoxvil, the most populated group ever encountered was detailed in a report filed by a soldier that fought alongside his brothers defending their city state from nearly two dozen of these beasts. It was said that they were capable of scaling the walls of their city, their brute strength put together to force open the doors of the gateway. . . however besides this report such abilities have never been reported.

Their origin was speculated some years back, by religious folk no less that they were born of Iblees, or another dark being, twisted forms of the canine creatures forced into the once pure souls of whichever descendant might come across the curse. Proof of this was seemingly apparent when one hunter, a personal friend of mine struck it with an Aurum Tipped bolt, it’s very skin seemed to sear and burn, releasing a horrid screech as it took off in the opposite direction, far too fast to catch, disappearing into the forested lands.

~Report from Hunter Aadam L. Larius, 1302

Information to Note:

  • While in the Bestial Form a Lycanthrope will typically feed from a variety of raw meats, that is if it slaughters any particular creature.
  • One cannot turn into any form of Werebear, Werecat, etc etc, only the canine-esque looking creatures.

Physical features:

  • If one obtains the Lycanthropic affliction, it becomes impossible to tell less they enter the bestial form, or if they are bleeding- the Affliction visible in the blood, which will appear thicker than normal, and mixed with a murky white substance.

  • While turning into the bestial creature that is a Lycan, your body will contort and twist, yellow coloured smoke twirling about your being as you increase in size, your bones growing and changing, fur sprouting from within your skin, and your eyes turning a solid yellow hue. The bestial form’s facial features typically resemble that of a fox, wolf, coyote, jackal or some other canine creature, never cookie-cutter and different for every Lycan. Fur colours are typically black, grey or dark brown. A rare mutation during the affliction’s takeover of your cells might cause the bestial form’s fur to be a darker golden colour, however this has only been known to have occurred twice in history.

  • The creature’s teeth while in their bestial form are sharp and jagged, usually a half inch to an inch in length. Their ears vary in being, either rounded or pointed, size dependent upon the look of their visage. The creature also has a tail, like that of their face different with each Lycan, varying in appearance and length.

Green Lines of the Creature:

  • You will obtain an innate and indescribable capability to enter a “bestial form”, looking like that of a Lycanthrope, and the ability to reform into your normal appearance at will.

  • Greatly enhanced physical strength, best compared to that of an Uruk. The creature is capable of fighting on all fours or only on it’s hind legs. It’s bite is also rather powerful, capable of cracking and in certain cases breaking bones. Additionally the creature is about as fast as a Kha while running on it’s hind legs, and twice as fast while on all fours.

  • In the darkness while in it’s bestial form the Lycanthrope is capable of seeing with enhanced clarity, almost as if it was the daytime.

  • While in your bestial form your sense of smell if enhanced to a degree in which you can successfully track a smell for miles upon miles, and pick up on minute details that a normal creature might miss.

  • The Lycanthropic Affliction’s cancer-like cells not only take control of the workings of your body but also enhance your natural health, improving your resistance to other diseases and increasing your normal life span by twenty years.

Red Lines of the Creature:

  • Aurum and Holy Magic are extremely painful when used against the creature. The dark origins of the affliction weaken the creature’s resistance to these holy weapons.

  • Fi Magic will destroy the very cells that keep you alive, killing you almost instantly.

  • Due to the murderous and evil origins of the creature that you are, it is commonplace to be seen as a devil-like-being, hated and hunted. As per any normal creature blows to your internal organs, and to major arteries are almost certainly a death sentence.

  • While in your bestial form you are incapable of comprehending any languages nor able to speak them. Your only form of communication is that of canine creatures, feral in nature, consisting of yips and whines, similar to that of wolves.

  • If you happen to find yourself trapped in the Bestial Form, incapable of leaving, the memories of your past life will begin to fade, over the next few weeks becoming blurred, and eventually disappearing entirely. Eventually you will know nothing besides what you are, a bloodthirsty hunter, a wild and merciless beast. (See ‘Obtaining the Affliction’)

  • After becoming a Lycan it is impossible to shirk, or become cured from the Affliction, attempts to do so with any form of potion will have no affect, healing magics will only harm or even kill you.

  • As time progresses your general body hair, be you male or female will increase in length and thickness, spreading further than prior. It is also possible that females with this affliction may even grow short beards if the hair is not properly maintained.

  • The process of turning onto the Bestial Form takes on average fifteen to twenty seconds, during which time the Lycanthrope is vulnerable to attacks as it is unable to defend itself during this time period.

  • After leaving your Bestial Form the Lycanthrope will suffer an exhausted state, the energy all but totally torn from them, the drive to sleep paramount. This state will typically last for multiple hours, only leaving if the Lycan aquires adequate rest.

  • The Affliction makes the Lycanthrope Infertal, and causes the infected to become unable to use magic.

  • Only descendants may obtain the Lycanthropic Affliction.

Obtaining the Affliction:

  • The Affliction itself is obtained through the inhalation of gases given off from a special elixir. The cells travel through the air and into your lungs, from which they spread extremely quickly, taking over and learning from the cells within your body, killing them after they learn their functions and then working to keep your body alive. During the transformation period an MT is required to oversee the process. As you inhale the gases you begin to lose control of your motor skills, your hearing becomes like static until it fades completely, and your vision becomes nothingness, forcing you into a dreamless sleep like state. During this time you must wait a full 15 IRL minutes as the cancerous takeover of your body takes place.

  • You must roll a 1d100 while going through the transformation. If you obtain a 1-45 you will successfully receive the Affliction, if you obtain a 46-85 you will perish and be required to PK, and if you obtain a 86-100 you will transform into the bestial state and be unable to leave it.

  • After the process is complete the elixir will stop releasing the gases and become totally useless.

  • If one was to drink the elixir rather then inhale it's fumes, they would perish in minutes.

  • The creation of the elixir is only known ICly, and will not be posted here.

Affliction

Kaevryn grows heavily annoyed as he reads of a supposedly new Affliction, circa 2017.

Nah! All good, seems a bit short, though, my lore sub was around 4000+ words even before all the various edits.

Might want to expand on it a bit more.

Does this mean it is instant - as in it can be used in battle.

Neato my friendo +1

However, the rolling system seems a bit weird. Not sure if I agree with that. And I have a few questions.

Is there an underlying race you get? Necrolye, Fiend, Spectre, etc?

How fast is the mutation from defendant to bestial form?

Can they learn magic?

Do they require to feed on something? Such as; blood or flesh?

If you are as strong as an olog and capable of four times the speed it is too OP.

I would like to see werewolf lore with a bit more spice to it rather than a generic version.

A werewolf with the strength of a singular man. His bark more strong then his bite persay.

His movement speed given movement 1 boost.

Cannot wear armor, golden weapons have +1 dmg.
