ski_king3 0 Share Posted July 27, 2017 GM Activity Project Links The Methodology The Data 6/30 - 7/10 (Initial Post) 7/11 - 7/17 7/18 - 7/24 Hail friends of Malinor. Today I’m here to provide you with the third activity project release. Above there’s a spoiler with links for our methodology, data, and the previous releases if you require more extensive information about the project. However, if you’d like a short overview of the project, our goal is to make it easier for players to find roleplay by regularly releasing information about region activity. I’d like to apologize for getting this one out a little bit later than I intended. I’m going to try and have these released every Tuesday from now on, as each period of activity project checks end on Monday. Like last time, I’ve compared each region found in this week’s data to last weeks’ data. Additionally, I’ve added an adjusted percentage of players in active regions which only takes into account players on Tahn, Asul and Ceru. This is because I’ve found that when there is a large number of people not on one of these islands, it’s often due to staff members in non-RP multiverse worlds rather than regular players sitting at spawn, causing a the percentage to skew downward slightly. Lastly, there were a few less checks done than we had last week, and a few days with markedly less data. It’s my hope that we can avoid this in the future, but there will unfortunately be times where real life inhibits members of this project from doing more checks. Fortunately, because this data is still an aggregate of three checks per day, we can still gather some broad trends regarding region activity from this even with some gaps. Now, on to the data... The Data If you took a moment to read the document linked earlier, you’ll know that we marked down any region that had 5 or more people in it consecutively. For the sake of this project, we will consider that to be “active.” I know it’s a bit arbitrary, but the line had to be drawn somewhere, and we think this is a good threshold. The following locations were found to be active on over 75% of our checks between July 18th and July 24th. -marbrandfief (Haense) -veris (Veris, previously 50%+) -orccapital (San’raakh) The following locations were found to be active on over 50% of our checks between July 18th and July 24th. -welvescapital (Linandria, previously 75%+) -warhawkeland (Leyu’celia, previously 50%+) -enchantryguild (The Enchantry, previously below 25%) The following locations were found to be active on over 25% of our checks between July 18th and July 24th. -island_highelf1 (Norland, previously 50%+) -ponce (Ponce) The following locations were found to be active on at least one of our checks between July 18th and July 24th. -dwarfsettlement1 (Tal’Ardoth) -guilddragur (The Library of Dragur) -mardonfief3 (Avon, no activity last week) -mardoncapital2 (Auguston) -arcadia (Arcadia) -welfsettlement2 (Metz) -suticacapital (Sutica) -mcdruids (The Wandering Grove) -helvescapital (Haelun’or) -azmarvalley (Tal’Azmar) -norlandisland2 (Norland, no activity last week) -dwarfcave (Jornheim?) -snelfcity (Velaris, no activity last week) On average, approximately 53% of players were found in regions with 5 or more players in them (the remaining percentage including spawn, staff members in the build world, etc.). This is a decrease of 7% from last week. An adjusted percentage (not counting players outside of Tahn, Ceru and Asul) is 56%. On average, approximately 58% of players were found in regions with 5 or more players in them when 100 or more players were online. This is a decrease of 7% from last week. An adjusted percentage is 61%. On average, approximately 79% of players online were in Tahn. This is an increase of 4% from last week. On average, approximately 3% of players online were in Ceru. This is a decrease of 2% from last week. On average, approximately 11% of players online were in Asul. This is a decrease of 1% from last week. Analyses For those possibly viewing one of these threads for the first time, the goal of this section is to offer some more subjective analyses based on the impressions of those doing these checks. Some may be drawn from the data, but that won’t always be the case. The thing that stands out the most is the shift toward Tahn. The past two weeks we’ve seen an increasing portion of the server population head over to Tahn, with decreases happening for Asul and Ceru. However, this likely was at least in part due to Asul’s largest settlement, Veris, having a number of people dedicated to LC, and the decline of Sutica in Ceru. Things have seemed to be picking up in Asul toward the end of this check period, and should continue to do so. Likewise, it would seem that folks are spreading out a tiny bit, with a slightly smaller percentage of the playerbase in an active area during our checks. However, I would in part attribute that to a number of LC areas popping up that are dragging folks away who would otherwise be RPing. That could be wrong, however, and it will be hard to figure out what is our “normal” until we have more, longer-term data. As for timezone specific regions, San’raakh and Ponce seem to continue as slightly European-favoring regions. The Enchantry seems to be a bit more popular in American afternoons and evenings, going into Aussie times. The rest seem to not majorly favor any timezone particularly. I already mentioned this, but I found this week in particular that I often performed checks while several staff members were in other multiverse worlds performing staff duties. This means that they contribute to the number of players online, but have no chance of being found contributing to a potentially active settlement during the check. I think not including these players in the active percentage is a better reflection of overall server activity, which is why I added the adjusted percentages. Conclusions My hope is that this (late…) update was valuable as well, and that the additional information provided is useful. All of the important/previous stuff is in a spoiler at the top of the page, rather than linked throughout the post. I’ll continue posting these as best I can, hopefully returning to the Tuesday schedule. However, following next Tuesday’s post, I’m going to be releasing a larger activity thread that tracks the course of activity for the entire month of July. I’m not entirely sure what this will look like yet, but I hope for it to showcase some of the locations that have been most active and be more than data and observations in boring text format. Also, if any of you would like to do me a favor and look at the spreadsheet with the data and click the region info tab, there’s some holes/uncertainties regarding names of regions and what nations they exist beneath. If you all can help me with that, it would be greatly appreciated! Likewise, if you’re the PRO (or a representative of the PRO) for any of the regions listed in this or previous threads, feel free to contact me, as I have an idea I’d like to run by you. Similarly, if you’re going to be running an event for your settlement, feel free to contact me or comment here, and we will try to have a check done at that time. And as always, if you have further questions about my methodology, or ideas on how the staff can use this data, that would be great! Thanks for the positive feedback and expect more of these in the future. Special thanks to @Creete, @Rammer, @Jaeden and @PorkNchopS for the assistance, @Harold and @Harrison for the support, and @Malimom for being a friend. Farryn 860 Share Posted July 27, 2017 adherent region belongs to the Adherents of Tahariae, which is my branch of clerics. The settlement name is Lucerna Temple. The region does not belong to any nation. It is the primary base for the Adherents of Tahariae. This is for the spreadsheet but overall, good work! Kaiser 2347 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Damn, some of these places almost never had 5+ people in them, that's worrying. Wonder if it's best to become more strict on nations not being active enough, and just give some the lesser nations the axe. Consolidate the playerbase into a handful of places? Look at Mardons Cap. Majority of it is blacked out and then randomly it jumps to like 15+ (or 27) out of nowhere. I don't mean to single Mardon out, but is that 'active'? Nations like that seem like dead states.
