Hello friends!

About two weeks ago, we implemented a change to the required amount of people needed for PvP under the Defender Default rules. Before, 8 people and above within a combat scenario meant that the fight could be defaulted to PvP. It was changed so that 10 people and above within a combat scenario were required for it to default to PvP. A large amount of players expressed their unhappiness at the rule change, whilst another large amount expressed their joy for it.

If you'd like to keep up with that change and the Feedback/Discussion that became of it, I recommend reading through this thread by DPM:

https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/164903-defender-default-and-the-joke-its-become/

Now that some time has passed, we'd like to start gathering feedback on whether the change has been beneficial for the server or not. Please share experiences that you've had recently (or in the recent future after this thread is posted) about how this rule change has effected you below, and vote on the polls at the top!

As a quick note to consider whilst voting:

  • We are currently working on solving Metagaming on the server.
  • We are currently looking at roleplay fighting.
  • Dependant on feedback gathered, we may revert the change if it hasn't proved successful.

So many people voting no just because they lost gear from it.

It puts a stop to people just attacking you with better gear and clicking ability and thus dictating the result of rp because of it. This has been problematic on all maps where raiding and banditry is prevalent and so I think that defender default has been a fairly positive change.

You saved me from writing exactly that. I agree completely.

my suggestion:

  • the number for pvp increases with each attacker:
  • 1 attacker, 4 people
  • 2 attacker, 6 people
  • 3 attackers, 8 people
  • 4 attackers, 10 people
  • (or smth like that- im not that good at number crunching so bear with me)

10 people emoting all at the same time is personally too much for me to bear. At least have the raid cap raised to 5 if you're going to raise it.

The point of this change is because the raid cap was raised. If raid cap is 5, then defender default becomes meaningless again unless we raise the PVP cap higher, which would be even less popular.

pvp raids shouldnt be inherently 4 v 4+, there should be an opportunity for even fights such as 5 v 5

The point is that if 8 people defaults to PVP, and 4 people can do lawless raids, you cannot use defender default to select RP without being at a disadvantage. That's why the cap was raised.

defender default does not become meaningless if the raid cap becomes 5. if the raid cap becomes 5 then you will see less and less unkillable gods of war geared with titanium cod pieces and sharpness infinity swords (Obviously an exaggeration, but you get the point about god gear).

the higher the raid cap, the easier raids will become essentially, which seems counter-intuitive but makes real sense.

I believe it can be a good system when the scale isn't tipped to one side or the other. The idea of Defender Default was to be impartial towards both Role-Play and PVP, but there should be some sort of revising to help the disadvantaged party. It's one thing when someone comes to attack your settlement and can resort to PVP or Role-Play because of Defender Default. It's another thing when an attacker has to open combat on the defender who then calls in 5 others to basically surround you and all emote stabbing you to death with no possible means of escape. I believe in situations like that it's unfair to those attacking especially since they would not have the Defender Default and could not resort to PVP as a means of kiting or escape.

I also think that Lawless Raiding which consists of 2-4 people is a very low number for something to be considered a raid. Raids often come in larger groups to pillage and plunder or seek bloodshed, whatever it may be.
