GM Update Log - August 2018

e_d8YaUom1uFCP1hjGBbsaHvNF4OgnJWBKlV93Ka

Introduction

Your friendly neighborhood GM director is back at it again with another update with what game moderators have been up to lately. We have been focusing more heavily on our projects as our focus is nearly fully off improving team structure and now on the systems we oversee. This month we have finished up our community review on a server rules rewrite and have also started our community review on heist. Both of these projects should be finished within a month or so which is leading us into raids which is already going through a your view. As always we are looking for feedback and community interaction so if you have ideas or thoughts post them in the comments down below or forum pm me!

New Changes

Team direction and our dedication to transparency. Communication is a big word that is often thrown around and for awhile there was a bad mentality that it was just being used as a buzzword. However, I believe it is extremely important that we communicate clearly with the player base, whether it be when explaining a situation and what a player did wrong, or the very things we are looking out for specifically and enforcing while moderating. Due to a lack of consistency within the team there were team policies drafted earlier in the summer to help streamline verdicts and actions we perform in-game. Looking forward I will be publishing that set of some twenty-five policy points so that the community can be aware of what we are enforcing and using to dictate our work. This will lead to people being more informed and holding GMs more accountable!

Wars! Wars have been a vocal point that we have started the process of collecting feedback on for changes to be done. There are a lot of minor tweaks and even war tiers we are looking to add, but a lot of this is being held up at the administration level at the moment. I apologize for the delay since there should have been a lot more progress in this area, but this is out of our stretch and falls on Telanir to review our proposals and approve them which is difficult due to events going on in his life and his computer breaking last month. A lot of these proposals and ideas will be active “Work In Progress” projects that we will implement for live testing before taking feedback and modifying them to better suit the need of the community and player groups that love wars and want to see them returned to a strong point.

Rules are something in general we are going down and revamping. A lot of people have asked why we are changing the rules again after they were just changed a year or so ago? The answer is as LoTC develops and changes so do we as a community. A lot of rules in the last rewrite were removed which has started leading up to more issues in-game and players complaining about a lack of clarity which is why this set of rules is slightly longer than the last one; talking about server rules. But with all rules we should be actively updating them to serve the community in the best way possible and not locking them down to never be changed again which is why our formats on the new rewrites are drastically different and more bullet pointy.

Lastly, I wanted to hit a point on free-build which will also be subject to some rule changes to add more clarity to land claiming and the technical aspects that moderators have already been lighting enforcing. While we are waiting on some of these rule updates we will be spending a bit more time going around the map and removing inactive builds through activity checks. This will help clear the map up for active players to use and also make the map look less.. Umm.. crap. If you have suggestions to free build rules leave them down below or wait for the your view to come out on it which is down the road still.

Kudos to all the active GM's, I see activity daily and most modreqs are being taken within 2 minutes of it being issued, only rarely taking longer.

And big kudos to Wolfkite for actually keeping up to date with peeps activity, and doing amazing job lately in any situations.

Also personal kudos to Kanade, for going out of his way to deal with LT heavy situation, and actually getting it solved with balanced way.

Tho' Tornado I still love how you got reports of me having autoclicker xD

Is this why you haven't contacted a single person from one side in the ban report you've been handling for over a week now, after you locked the relevant thread?

This is something you already mentioned to me on Discord earlier this morning! I did respond stating that currently I am still gathering my own evidence and going through the information I have collected at the moment. Contrary to speculation and what you might perceive the situation as I have yet to contact anyone from either party about the situation other than Overlord. I get that everyone involved would love a verdict now and for this to move forward and past us, but due to how complex and how long this has been going on that sadly can't happen instantly over night. Better to be slow and precise in my approach than vague and ineffective. I will make it a note to communicate my findings and lay out my conclusion when I am done looking into the reports!

@Fireheart I should hope that any evidence given by anyone will be shown to the person(s) incriminated therein in order for them to defend themselves, before any verdict is posted

I'd just like to state that by virtue of numbers, the GM team can only sustain around 20-25 people without the average person failing to meet the 3% quota unless yall specifically only did 3% of each modreq so that everyone is at 3% all the time and then you could maintain 33, which is impossible, so no you don't need more GMs unless you start getting rid of the terrible ones. Also basing it off of modreqs answered is an objectively bad way of measuring a GM's usefulness. GMs often have more important roles than just answering modreqs and, while like a margin of 2% and then an assessment is reasonable, GMs should be graded on quality, not quantity. It's important to note that people who want high %ages can only take easy modreqs like 'i have this 1 chest here that needs eviction' or 'dude's being meanie :(' and thus reach the 3% quota, but those who get hard modreqs (Nl: Hey I need my entire city evicted, overseeing warclaims, raid watchTM, etc.) can simply avoid them unless they're cronies. There's also situations that spring up that need moderation that don't get modreqed. Quality GMs should be rewarded over quantity GMs.

To be fair, the turnover rate is fairly high along with at least one to two GMs on hiatus at a time. Having a team of say, 27 GMs, allows for us to stay between the recommended numbers at all times. Unfortunately the modreq system is based around quantity so it's kind of hard to reward quality. Though Fire does try to.

its not just based off of modreqs, most things you said that it should be based off can count towards gm activity, i'd refer you to under where fireheart listed the modreq percentage.
