Nexus was incredibly easy to do and it isn't obligatory any longer since there's defender default. It increased new player retention because it gave them something to do in case they don't take roleplay as a 24/7 job, creates a very healthy economy within the server, promotes faction competitivity, player to player trade, different PvP system where the most competent get the most reward, all items have increased and set values. Now people that enjoy grinding like me when there's nothing to do on the server are obliged to eat and swallow roleplay by roleplaying with yourself since everyone else is sprint jumping around.

Has any grinder that you've met quit grinding to dedicate themselves fully to roleplay once Nexus was gone? Can the players at peak times reach the same as it was before when we had Nexus?

There's nothing for new players to do since they'll be excluded from any possible magic circlejerk, no way to specialize yourself in any profession since no one sane roleplays alone to themselves at their home crafting swords or anything else. But these new players can go to a city and roleplay, of course. What about when everyone's offline?

If you're one of that kind of people that tell other people to roleplay by themselves if they enjoy something related to Nexus professions, why don't you do it alone by yourself, take it seriously and share with us... thanks.

EDIT:

I WILL BE CLOSING THE POOL ROUGHLY THREE DAYS AFTER THIS POST

Nexus had many flaws and when it comes to pvp i want it to be skill v skill between somebody who plays all day and somebody who plays an hour a day, not who grinded out for more hours. I know that's only one part of nexus but same goes for profedsions. If they were to bring back nexus for whatever reason they need to come up with a different system for them

nexus made a barrier for entry to new players and made lotc a grindfest if u wanted to be competitive in any sense. its no wonder why most people botted it.

if u wanna play an rpg go play one but a shitty knock off on minecraft is worthless.

I am all for the return of Nexus until a proper system is finished to replace it.  You took away part of our server's individuality however much you want to whine and moan that it took away from real RP,  thats really not true at all.  It gave you something to work towards on your character, some reason to go out in the world and interact with your surroundings.  Maybe you wanted a cheap place to buy iron so you travel to the different cities looking for cheap iron because you're actually willing to invest in yourself and your skills to be a better player.  You had people logging in more yeah maybe just to finish a craft but they're still on that server, still probably interacting with the people around them, and still creating a resource that they will later use in that server.  Your argument made that it killed role-play will never be valid because it's just an assumption and to be honest without that creative element players probably lost a lot of role-play when they couldn't make anything unique related to their profession without some sort of staff oversight.  You pushed the problem onto the staff team instead of resolving it yourselves..  -endrant.

Nexus was inclusive because everyone could have a part on it be it either by grinding or actually PvP, and it's like that on a lot of RPG-esque games, where those who grind and put more effort on a game will obviously be better at it. I mean, you can't be skillful if you don't play a lot, its like a grinding when you also try to improve on PvP, where you do it constantly to achieve a certain level. If you do it roughly once a week, you'll obviously not be as good as someone that does this on a daily basis. Compare a professional player that gets paid to play and a player that has a job and thus cannot play on a daily basis but is also very skillful.

PvP nowadays is mostly down to numbers, not to skill unless you have someone very skilled commanding people around.

You don’t need Nexus to grind, PVP or add roleplay dynamics. As it stands LotC relies on it’s console to create roleplay rather than in game action.

Whilst the mechanics were intriguing, the Nexus craft system was bonkers and poorly fashioned. You had a set specific form of recipes, of which were poorly set out and in most cases were sought out for their greater mechanical advantages rather than the roleplay additions.

Also on the topic of roleplay, you don’t need Nexus to roleplay a character capable of specific professions. An honest question: how many people sitting at their grinding stations actively created RP emotes to detail what they were creating - and if you did, what’s stopping you from doing it now?

The plugins it offered for races, constructs and spectres in particular, were also ridiculous. PVPers consistently applied for golems, dreadknights and necrolytes purely for their PVP advantage (added health or damage reduction) whilst at the same time not effectively roleplaying said creature.

In my opinion Nexus has too many disadvantages compared to advantages and shouldn’t be brought back. This isn’t an  RP engine, it’s a sandbox, it’s not designed for balanced crafting plugins.

I joined this server watching old videos of the server and I came here confused as all **** because it was just a watered down vanilla server. I'm a relatively new player but come on, at least create a new system instead of axing it completely. And the excuse of "You're only limited by your imagination and Nexus limits you" is so wrong it hurts. More variety doesn't limit roleplay, but expands it. How can anyone RP a dedicated cavalry man when horses are utter **** and there are no lances? How can anyone RP a dedicated archer when literally everyone IS an archer? Even the cooking and drug crafting plugin. Come on, at LEAST keep that. It's hard to be a tavern owner when renaming food is behind a pay wall.

Don't bring it back as it was, but bring back the crafting system which was very nice.

My point was that anybody should be able to compete on equal grounds because a lot of ppl on lotc r still in school and a lot of them have very little time for lotc but when they do get on and maybe end up in a fight that they at least have a chance against the ones who play every day. Nexus was just a grind fest. You had to grind for everything and for some ppl thats great, rpg elements but not everybody likes rpg elements in games. I get the 'reward the hardworking' but some ppl simply dont have the time for grinding for hours a day. Rpg stuff just isnt for everybody and about pvp not being about skill, well it depends on a situation, the numbers, who your oponents are etc etc.

I'm not saying it's 100% skill but it never was. Having the best armor and weapons in the game doesn't mean ur skillful, it just means ur gonna have more chances to recover. I myself am more about way games like cs go go about it. Everybody has the same weapons and its up to you to use them to their best ability. Yes you may get rusty from not playing it but its certainly eaiser to jump back in when everybody has the same weapons and nobody got an rpg just because they sat there doing one thing over and over again for hours and if you want to reward ppl for grinding, make it so it doesn't give a direct advantage over the oponents, turn it into something else

Frankly I'm very against the bringing back of nexus, but I do think there is a way that it could be brought back that is at least somewhat conducive to roleplay, as I do miss some of the custom items that I can't make with just the crafting bench anymore.

I think the best way to do it would be for when you click the item you want to make, it asks you to make an chain of emotes making the item

Ex: when making an iron chestplate it sends you the message "emote 1/5, emote hammering the metal" or something (idk, i'm not a blacksmith, but something similar) and at the end of the emote chain you get the item. and if all weapons and armor stay vanilla, there is no need to grind out dozens of sets of armor, so you don't need to worry about the people who come just to grind.

that way when you walk into a city at least you can tell that people are doing something, and even if people just bind hotkey emotes, at least they are still contributing to roleplay instead of clicking 4 times to set up the crafting timer and then afk'ing.
