An Open Letter to Weak Wilhelm and the Curonites

From the Office of the Chancellor of Adria

Brothers in mankind, we would be remiss not to respond to your Duke’s pitious plea for peace. The begging of the fear-bowed Duke Ser Wilhelm Devereux falls not on deaf ears. The years of tranquility since the reign of his Imperial Majesty Aurelius have been kind to the men of the Empire, but many have grown fat, decadent, and lazy. Fields are left untilled, masonry is left to crumble, honor is left undefended. We do not seek war to break His Majesty’s peace, but to protect it. A duchy ruled by a so-called-knight who leaves the defense of his honor to a child champion is a greater offense to the memory of His Imperial Majesty Aurelius than the fiercest swords brought to bare by brave Adria.

Yet we are not vicious warmongers, but rather are faithful upholders of the standards of noble vassalhood and the demands of knightly service. We seek only justice in the holy name of our Creator. We will relent in our fury, should only the Duke Ser Devereux first relinquish his spurs to Boris Olgierd Gilbert Dario Alexandre Numirya Carrion, second betroth his daughter to Duke Ratibor Carrion’s eldest son Paul Ewald Ostromir Petyr Leonid Emil Franz Carrion, and third pay a purse of 50,000 minas to the treasury of Adria as recompense for the offense to His Grace Duke Ratibor Rodrigue Carrion’s respect for chivalry.

To the people of Curon, do not lay your lives down for a man who would not even defend his own honor. Do not forsake your families to be fodder for Weak Wilhelm. Bring your blades to bear, and cast off the noble weight which threatens to drag your people beneath the waves. We do not come on the wings of destruction, but of the Creator’s balancing justice.

Repent of your sins and save your honor, Duke Ser Devereux, for we come as crows.

”Why can’t we all jus’get along already-“

Thorvn grumbled, reading a copied letter from atop a nearby tree, much as it pained him to see the south fighting one another he’d have greater things to worry for.

A Half-Ogre sits in a tavern, drinking some booze, when he hears news of Adria and it's latest insult against the place that he calls home.

"Gud Klompz" he grumbles. He then lumbers off to prepare for war.

Benjamin tidied up his room after his company left. Looking over the letter he grew bored, taking a quick nap before he continued to read. " Begging on our part? Nae. Suggestin' these lads be smart? Aye. Don't know why we thought that possible." He remarked to those in the bunkhouse, continuing along. " They're sayin' His Imperial Majesty made his people weak? Right shite they're spoutin'." By the time he started his second comment he was already in the streets of Curon, letting whatever citizen or visitor hear him. He continued. "Nae 'vicious warmongerers'? Ye' said ye'd pay for our heads then tried to raid the damn capital fer a near elderly citizen of Curon." Benjamin reached the gates of Curon. Climbing up on the wall as he practically announced his final message, for all those inside and those near to hear. " These Adrians do all they can ta shame us and act bigger! When they're sendin' rogue attacks, and tryin' to rough up our elderly and retired folk! They say they're actin' for GOD, but would GOD want our elderly bein' beat on? Would GOD want war for a reason the Adrians couldn't even come up with in court? All this is pointless, aye, pointless! Those Adrians will say any nonsense just to show their *****. Now I'm gettin' a drink!"

Jarrack reads over the letter and scoffs, throwing the parchment in the flames of a fireplace. Even in his young age, the lad is shocked. “The Adrians were once a strong people. They once knew honor. Now under a new leader who is old, and a coward, they seem to have forgotten. We thought they were our allies. Shame. Adrians attack Curonians during the peaceful day of our Emperor’s wargames, and then try to cover it up. The agressors are so desperate, they try to make us seem like those without honor. A sad display. No matter, we will make quick work of these idiots. We outnumber them three to one. They have no defenses, and don’t have the backing of any other group. This will be good practice for our army. We will remind them what happens to those who betray the integrity of the Empire of Man. The way I see it, it seems like Adria is trying to rebel from the Empire...” The young heir stands, walking out of the hall. “It is time to remind Adria what it means to poke the bear.”

Reynauld Applauds the Adrian construction, and begins to construct his scorpions for deployment along the walls, making sure the binding is ten times that of a normal scorpion, to reach new speeds and altitudes

Anabel Devereux reads over the letter within the confinements of her room. She frowns deeply, folding the letter neatly and placing it down ”Their demands for war are on the basis of naught but unjustified bloodlust. They don’t seek for honour, merely for their own desperation of battle” She mutters to herself

“What is this upstart little ***** saying about the Carrions? Trust a child to say it within the warm embrace of their mothers bosom, instead of being a man by saying it to their face.” spits out Demetrius in disgust for the new generation.

Felipe hastily drafts documents in response to such drama. A true way to bolster the intrigue of inter-vassal conflict is to shove it in everyone's face
