3rd of The Amber Cold, 1716

To my cousin, Otto,

You are unfit for the titles you hold. You are decrepit, infertile and continuously degrade the Haensetian military with your ‘leadership.’ The aforementioned military has lost nearly every battle they’ve been in under your instruction, and morale continues to fall. You have neglected our people and ignored their requests for assistance. Meanwhile, I have saved Haense and rose to the occasion numerous times; to make up for your incompetence. To make matters worse, you continuously fail to provide a guiding hand when your forces need it most.

Thusly, I declare myself Baron of Koravia; for I have demonstrated that I am much better suited to the position. With my first decision as baron, I swear fealty to Godfrey III, of House Horen, in perpetuity. Under my command resides most of our men, all of which follow suit in this oath of fealty and will rise to His Imperial Majesty Godfrey III, of House Horen’s command. I have the support of the majority of the noble houses currently residing in Renatus. As you very well know, I am a capable warrior and a much better leader to these men than you could ever be.

To my family,

I offer an olive branch to those amongst you all in good faith. I, Rodrik Kortrevich, offer each of you a chance to join the eventual victors. Join me in Renatus to quash the rebellion as a family -- as we have always been. I wish not to harm any of my own flesh and blood. Accept my offer, and be safe from the dragon’s breath. Else, fall victim to it as many already have.

To my wife, Sarah,

I wish to ensure the safety of our children. The day they disappeared, myself, and Ser Gregor Thorne walked into Haense and retrieved them with no objection from the city guards, as well as our family sword. It pains me that this separation is necessary, but until your

allegiance has returned to the rightful side, I feel I cannot allow you to contact them.

To ‘King’ Marius, the traitor,

I considered you a brother. We were brought up together by your father, as knights of the realm. You gave me the moniker ‘The Loyal,’ and I intended to keep the vows to the same empire that defended us when we needed it most. It is because of our background that this betrayal stings so harshly Now, you spit upon their good graces. You side with Owynists, Reivers, and Snow Elves, men who terrorized citizens of your city. Now you side with them to make up for your Marshal’s ineptitude.

To my true, and faithful brother, Cassius ‘Twin-Blade’ Kortrevich,

I welcome you with open arms to the side of victors. You and I will fight together as blood, and most of all, brothers. I thank you for your loyalty and your faith in me. Bring all of your allies, and mercenaries you have met along the way - all of them shall be welcomed upon Helena to fight for the true emperor of men.

To my trusted friend, Wren Istaf, leader of the Tainted Eden company,

We’ve fought many battles together, and known each other for a long while. I intend to keep you close to me, as your company is a vital element to our war effort. In the past days, we have fought the Reivers, proving the superiority of your company. You’ve captured many and won many battles. I write to let you know that I trust you fully. And that your men will be rewarded, every single soul that fights under your command will be honoured with the highest of standards around the empire - that does include a large sum of minas, indeed.

Signed,

Ser Rodrik Kortrevich, “The Bloody”

Knight of the Red Dragon

Baron of Koravia

Hero of Renatus

Old Edward Barbanov cared little for politics, but he did care for people and in the spirit of being a cranky, semi comic-relief character, often thought the moral characters of the modern day were pale shadows compared to the men he had grown up with. And so, when he heard the news while working his way through a pint of milk – the doctor said he needed it to keep his old bones strong, though Edward wasn’t so sure how true that was – he couldn’t help but scowl.

“Pah,” he grunted to himself, sitting alone at the head of the Alimar dining table, bathed in pale morning light admitted by narrow window behind him. “Otto bloody Kortrevich might be decrepit. He might be infertile. He may well be the biggest fool of  man who ever walked the world.”

The old man clenched his fist.

“And I’d choose him over this thrice-damned traitor Rodrik any day.”

"What an oaf, how can you be so blind? All oaths to the Renatian state were annulled when Antonius dismantled his Empire. I believe it to be in our rights to form our own Commonwealth of Nations in the midst of that chaotic whirlwind, which did indeed lead to the Holy Orenian Empire.

This is no rebellion. Perhaps you should pause for a moment and gaze upon himself, and realize if you are bewitched or not.

Do the People of Renatus yearn so much for uneeded bloodshed? They are akin to barbarians, lacking in any class whatsoever. My pain goes out to all who cannot see through the facade of the Renatian ruling regime. Might does not make right - ruling fairly and with good judgement is the duty of every monarch.

You are at a point where you are not fighting for what is good, but for what you perceive to be a stronger side, perhaps in some vain attempt ro secure yourself and family some prestige.

I understand oaths are absolute, I myself am sworn eternally to the Reign of Joseph I and his successors, but I do implore you to reassess your position, and think that if what you are doing is truly correct.

Humanity will never again enter a Golden Age similar to that of the Three Johannian Emperors while the Pertinax Dynasty rules. Such is obvious, for their most affluent cities had never even been their own Capitals, but instead it was those of Haense, Curon, and Adria who flourished. We of the Marnan descent were descended from the greatest metropolis to grace Mankind, Johannesburg.

The only thing going for Renatus is its military strength, which I in no way belittle. It is quite formidable, but can we truly advance as a Race, with Renatus at the helm? It is a Nation built around an army.

Regardless, most of the times, words do little to sway to hearts of Men, only through my actions will you perhaps change your ways. I only hope you may understand our plight in the future, and cease your dehumanization of your opponents, we are all derived from the same stock afterall.

I wish you good fortunes in the battles to come."

Armand Falstaff, Grand Knight of the Holy Orenian Empire.

Richard Enthelor walks around the walls of his newly found keep hearing the news,  he would mumble to himself “Maybe I should offer my kin the same. my father did it the wrong way. maybe I should take the title my father is unfit for and offer it to one of my brothers, thanks Rodrik even though you probably didn't mean to give me advise”

"Your family didn't even exist when Renatus was Butchering Haensetian citizens every other day one continent ago. You saw fit to torture me at your master Uthred's command, for the crime of defending myself and ensuring an innocent man got a fair trial. In short, you're a *****." The woman was just about done with her training as the news reached her. The small blonde felt her body freeze in spot, almost dropping the blade in her hand
Never had she thought it’d come to this
”Oh Rodrik...”

Sarah sat down, leaning against the wall of the building she had been training nearby, looking at the unifrom she was wearing. Be it she recently joined the forces to assist in the war, wishing it would end
”My dearest Rodrik...”

For a first time in a while her heart became filled with the shadows of doubt. Oh, how has she missed both her children and husband. The girl ran a hand by her hair, now tangled by the light wind she was faced with just a moment ago
”You silly goose, you know I can not leave, not in times like these... not alone”

She stood up, heading to rest, her head low as she’d glance at the gates as she went by
”What should I do”

Cassius Kortrevich ponders his thoughts with his friend Joshua. “He’s the only one who really treated me like family, no matter what I would do. This man is my brother and I would call him my leader, should that situation arise. You have my twinblade, Rodrik. And you have my men, any of them that will join me. Come, Joshua. we have work to do.”

Lily receives this as she returns to her Keep. Hiding away in her chambers, her eyes scanning across the parchment. Her hands shaking and heart heavy. She'd reminisce on the times Rodrik & her shared, and dwell on the love she felt for him. She'd whisper to herself, "I wish I knew what to do, dear brother. I wish we could be as we were before this war, for I can not bring myself to call you a traitor. And yet, I can not even talk to you. Rodrik, you & Duncan led me through everything, I can not stomach the thought of a life without you."

The Waldenian boy read the letter with his finger following, still not entirely sure how he got the letter... ’’Didnt he have eine lover?’’ The boy thought to himself ’’He zeems to habe forgotten her perhaps, his eyes shaded by zhe blood on his hand und his betreyal to his freunds und family, ja?’’  The boy asked as he turned to the grown ups that stood by his side, as they nodded at him in silence...

Jayden would look at the letter addressed to Tainted Eden. His eyebrows pushing upwards questioningly at the mention of the large Quantity of Minas.

“Where are these ‘Minas’ at though? You lot know I ain’ enjoy killin’ for free.” He’d say simply, directing his statement to Wren and Arthur. @Wistaf @Aistaf
