SECTION I - PONTIAN’S LAST KNOWN ACTS

It was well known to the Empire that Pontian was a traditional Canonist who tried to enforce Canonical Law throughout it, especially Helena, believing that the populace of Helena was filled mainly with apostates and back-stabbers. During the Carrington riots the rioters were pushed back onto the Basilica steps by the emperor and members of the Imperial State Army in which they were forced to beg for forgiveness and mercy from the Emperor. During this, a man mysteriously arrived and hurled a fire cocktail at the guards trying to arrest Green Carrington and the rioters, setting the cathedral alight in the process. Pontian was trapped inside alongside Father Alexander and Holy Ser Adrian, this will be elaborated upon further. As a result of this Pontian commission the Carrington to construct a monastery behind the Basilica at a cost of thirteen thousand mina, paid mostly by donations received. Two days after its completion Pontian met with Jasper Carrington in the gardens of the monastery, where he would later be found dead and burnt, he would never be seen alive again.

SECTION II - WHAT THE CARDINALS SAW

High Pontiff Pontian III was murdered in the late hours on the 13th of Harren’s Folley, 1752. Prior to his death Pontian, myself and Arthur were speaking to people in the tavern about keeping their conversation about ones innocence in a hushed tone, after this all three of us returned to the monastery of St. Jude, located behind the Basilica. Myself and Cardinal Arthur noticed that Jasper Carrington entered the monastery, seeking an audience with the Pontiff. Before myself and Arthur retired to rest we saw Jasper speaking with Pontian in the center of the monasteries gardens. I returned ten saints minutes later to find Pontians body burning in the center of the monasteries garden, where he was having his meeting with Jasper. I would also like to note we believe more appeared for this meeting after myself and Arthur left, this is because when I noticed Pontians body I heard footsteps coming from the underground part of the monastery. I followed these footsteps to the assigned port of exile (a location in which we can send people out of the city via boat) and the gate was left open.

SECTION III - QUESTIONING OF JASPER CARRINGTON

Immediately after Pontian was found dead, I ran to the Bastile and alerted the ISA to what had transpired. They rushed to the Basilica to place a cordon around it in order to secure the crime scene and facilitate an investigation. Myself and Arthur , knowing who Pontian had last met with and the time frame around this, summoned Jasper to the Basilica for questioning, however he was then brought into with Rylan Swint asking him questions about a wall, something  irrelevant to the Churches investigation. When we eventually managed to speak to Jasper we requested to question him regarding his meeting, he however refused to do this in our office, apparently fearing for his life and believing we would kill him, an odd claim surely.

However I digress, we questioned him in the pews instead due to his non-compliance in heading into an office. We asked him about the subject of this meeting with Pontian to which he told us it was to discuss completing the gardens of the monastery, a location he was found dead in,  as it was part of the contract we had signed with them. This claim was very strange as it was not Pontian who had signed the contract, it was I, and he knew this, furthermore the garden was near completion, all that was required was a few seeds to be planted, something I’m sure the Carringtons did not need to arrange a meeting to discuss.

Furthermore, during the questioning, Jasper was asked if he is a devout Canonist man, he stated that he was. However I refute this absolutely. I believe Jasper is no Canonist at all, a pagan or apostate if you will. I believe this because a few years ago I was sent by Pontian to officiate a marriage in Adria, so I went. I had come to realise that Jasper was intending to marry an elf, something I refused to officiate as it is against Canonical Law. Regardless of this Jasper announced that if anybody was willing to officiate it then they may, a member of the dwarven brathmodakin arrived to officiate his wedding, to no qualm of Jaspers. Naturally, I protested this as it was against Canonical Law, heresy and wrong, I was then threatened by Jasper and his pagan soldiers to cease. I remained there and continued my protests due to this unnatural and heretical union, Jasper subsequently ordered his pagan guards to beat me into silence. They did this, all of this was witnessed by Arch Chancellor Simon Basrid.

SECTION IV - JASPERS HERETICAL MARRIAGE TO AN ELF

As stated above, I was dispatched to Adria to officiate Jaspers marriage, the Pontificate unaware of who the bride was. When I arrived and noticed it was an elf I refused and was met by many shouts and demands from the crowd Jasper had gathered. I was presented with some half-assed attempt at Imperial documents stating Jasper is half-elf or something of the like. I however still refused. I informed Jasper if he did not believe in the stance I had taken to contact the Pontiff directly to clear up any misinformation or confusion. He refused to do this and announced to the crowd that they should perform a duma vote on the marriage and then announced for anybody willing to perform the marriage to make themselves known.

A member of the dwarven brathmodakin arrived and held this heretical wedding, I was subsequently attacked by Jasper’s rhenyari pagan guards and ordered to keep silent or it would be worse. This was all witnessed by the crowd including Simon Basrid. This whole ordeal violated various Canonical Laws which I will state below:

Chapter III: The form of the celebration

§1 Marriage is officiated by the bishop of the resident diocese of the persons contracting to the marriage.

§2 The bishop may delegate the officiation of marriage to their vicar.

§3 Marriage is between a capable Canonist male and a Canonist female.

TITLE V. Crimes against Canon life and freedom

§3 Those practicing carnal relations outside their race are to face a just penalty as decided by an ecclesiastical court.

TITLE III. Crimes against ecclesiastical authorities.

§2 A person who further uses excessive force against a bishop or cardinal are to face a just penalty as decided by an ecclesiastical court.

§9 Those who see it fit to insult or threaten a member of the clergy. These individuals are guilty of the crime of indignity.

SECTION V - ANALYSIS OF JASPER CARRINGTON

Much like many of my reports we will analyse the character, behaviour and mannerisms of Jasper Carrington. We believe Jasper Carrington to be a vain greedy man who cares mostly about his profits than his fellow man. Some might call him charitable for buying a poor house for people to live in and yet I refute this. This building is not a poor house by any means, it is a place in which Jasper recruits people into his organisation, to continue to grow and influence the city. Anything that threatens the growth of his organisation strangely vanished, much like Boudewijin Has.

He seeks to spread his influence throughout the city by recruiting as many people as possible to his organisation including spies and informants in the ISA. He makes these people reliant on his very existence so that they would do anything and everything to protect him and his organisation. He lacks any faith and remorse at all, such was evident at his heretical wedding. Jasper is a very deceptive man who uses his organisation and wealth to accomplish anything he wants. I’ve no doubt that I will either vanish or be found dead like Boudewijin Has or Pontian III, most likely framed to look like a Chelovak assassination.

SECTION  VI - JASPERS MOTIVE, OPPORTUNITY AND MEANS

During our investigation we cast our gaze to the most likely suspect, somebody seen by two cardinals with the Pontiff, minutes before his death. In an investigation when looking for a suspect there are three things you consider, motive opportunity and means. We believe Jasper had all three and will elaborate upon each in detail. In an investigation when somebody says means, it refers to somebody having the means and/or equipment to carry out the alleged crime, when somebody says opportunity it refers to somebody having the opportunity to carry out the alleged crime such as no witnesses and/or you have keys to somebody's house, when somebody says motive it refers to to somebodies motive for carrying out such a crime, for example a poor man robbing a rich man for food.

We believe Jasper had motive to carry out this heinous crime. Jaspers motive would stem all the way back to his false-marriage to his elven lover after the Pontificate refused to officiate it. Most people in Helena knew that we were trying to enforce canonical law in the city which would include bringing Jasper and his elven lover to trial for numerous crimes that were committed during the ordeal. Pontian did not care for the politics of the capital and would call any man to trial if it was warranted, regardless of position, wealth or influence. We believe Jasper intended to silence the Pontiffs investigation into his own crimes and that of the apostasy and sins of high ranking officials within the city of which will currently remain unnamed but mentioned in a later report.

We believe Jasper had the opportunity to carry out this heinous crime. Jasper and his organisation were given free reign to move about the cathedral and monastery complex because they were paid to construct it after the Carrington riots caused great damage to the Basilica. He knew the complete layout of the complex and had easy access without raising any questions by the clergy within or the Pontiff himself. He would be able to be in the monastery with the Pontiff without raising any questions or alarms.

We believe Jasper had the means to carry out this heinous crime. Jasper is one of the leaders of Carrington co, an incredibly wealthy business which influences the city of Helena more than anybody else added to the fact that a Carrington is now mayor of the city. He had the means to procure any co-conspirators with ease due to their business interest in silencing the Pontiffs investigation into high-ranking officials and Jasper himself. He had full access to the monastery and was able to enter within without raising suspicion which is how he managed to slip past myself and Arthur without any alarms.

SECTION VII - JASPERS ESCAPE FROM HIS CELL

In the early hours on the 15h of Harren’s Folley, 1752, the Solicitor General along with two of his men entered the Carrington main building located in Nauzica square to arrest Jasper Carrington for the assassination of High Pontiff Pontian III, he was not within the building at the time and was meeting with unknown people. A few saints minutes later he arrived with a hou-zi and, after a confrontation, was detained by Joseph Adler and his soldiers, they also confiscated Jasper’s schedule in the process. They placed Jasper into a cell to await questioning.

However in the early hours on the 16h, before the Synod convened, an unknown imperial official or ISA soldiers let Jasper out of his cell before an interrogation could commence. Jaspers fleeing from this interrogation only speaks to his guilt. We believe that the man/men who broke Jasper out of his cell are soldiers within the Imperial State Army or members of the Imperial High Command, part of Carrington co and paid by Jasper himself. It is our belief that the ISA soldiers or member of the Imperial High Command who broke Jasper out of his cell were also part of the plot to assassinate the Pontiff to impede his investigation into high-ranking officials within Helena. I myself having been threatened with death by the Rhenyari colonel for facilitating a mans penance for fornicating and trying to deceive us in our investigations into his fornication. It is not far from the realm of possibility that members of the imperial high command, ISA leadership or soldiers facilitated his escape.

l2SvrzySxvuyeLapI2IchRh-KzJpzLyLjH3OYPhMg_xmylzTeUXqKB1eYvElJqcFEiHnPTE8rRjcq_q3Pj5gjpvkiD5NxwMyK8KFwNqYSRsNBITIps20kmteuAxEkoZhSw

SECTION VIII - THE BIGGER PICTURE

It is no secret that the Carringtons control a large amount of influence in Helena, one of them being the Mayor afterall. It is without a doubt that this assassination had outside support more than just Jasper and his co-conspirators. I believe Jasper would not commit such a heinous crime without the support of his organisation and in turn, Green Carrington, it is also our belief they would not do such without backing from high-ranking officials within Helena and the ISA, such is evident from Jaspers escape or release by high ranking ISA soldiers. We must consider the plot to assassinate High Pontiff Pontian III to be somewhat state-sponsored, a plot reaching all the way up to the empires senior command. Members who will currently remain unnamed whilst our investigation continues, we have no doubt however that even when these members are named, nothing will happen to them in the form of imperial justice.

Two saints weeks ago when Pontian spoke to the emperor in Selm, he expressed his concerns regarding the Lt. Colonel and mayor at the time, regarding the fact he refuse Pontian access to give the write of reconciliation to two prisoners they were holding captive. Pontian expressed his thoughts on relocating the Holy See elsewhere so that the continuous attacks on the institution could not continue from organisations such as the Carringtons and ISA but the Emperor informed the Pontiff he would speak with such people so that no attacks will happen again and two saints weeks later the Pontiff dies from these same people. Now rather recently, despite ISA involvement being highly suspect they have been assigned to harass and stalk every and all clergymen that enters Helena, not to listen to anything we say or request of them, rather odd indeed. They do this under the guise of protection, but if senior ISA members turn out to be involved in this conspiracy, which I believe they are, this protection will serve as an easy way to remove cardinals who are vocal against this brazen act.

When the ISA had arrived to begin their investigation into Pontian’s assassination, I left them alone with the body to gather the Cardinals and inform them of what has transpired. I later return to find that Pontians body had been defiled by elves, in their presence. His body was cut open and several organs were harvested by these elves for unknown practises. The Sons of Malin, residing in a building right next to the Bastile, took the organs harvested from Pontian to do GOD knows what, defiling the body of our dear Pontiff. Albeit we have successfully reclaimed the organs, this was still a sacrilegious act and we absolutely condemn the Sons of Malin and call for their doctor who commited the defilement to be handed over to Church authorities for punishment fitting such a heinous crime. Failing the handover of this criminal we urge the Imperial Administration to banish these harbourers from Helena for their crimes against the Canonist Church and the body of Pontian III.

SECTION IX - CONCLUSION

To conclude, we believe that this conspiracy leads all the way to the top of the imperial administration, various high-ranking officials would have given approval for this operation to be completed, most likely paying Jasper Carrington to commit this heinous crime in order to save themselves from GODLY retribution. Furthermore our investigation into these unnamed high-ranking officials continues and will be published in a later report. We believe Jasper is guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Boudewijin Haas due to the fact that Jasper is a greedy man and Boudewijin possessd the building in which Jasper needed to start his organisation, a building right in the middle of the square already planned for re-construction, we appreciate his body has never been found but we believe he burnt his body to ash in order to conceal his crime, we believe he tried to do this with Pontian however lacked the time due to the location he commit this assassination. We believe Jasper Carrington had support from his organisation, mayor and high-ranking officials in Helena. We find Jasper Carrington guilty of the following crimes:

Chapter III: The form of the celebration

§1 Marriage is officiated by the bishop of the resident diocese of the persons contracting to the marriage.

§2 The bishop may delegate the officiation of marriage to their vicar.

§3 Marriage is between a capable Canonist male and a Canonist female.

TITLE V. Crimes against Canon life and freedom

§3 Those practicing carnal relations outside their race are to face a just penalty as decided by an ecclesiastical court.

TITLE III. Crimes against ecclesiastical authorities.

§1 A person using excessive physical force against the Pontiff incurs excommunication. Members of the clergy may incur greater penalties depending on the severity of the crime.

§2 A person who further uses excessive force against a bishop or cardinal are to face a just penalty as decided by an ecclesiastical court.

§4 A person joining a group plotting against the church are to face a just penalty as decided by an ecclesiastical court.

§9 Those who see it fit to insult or threaten a member of the clergy. These individuals are guilty of the crime of indignity.

I therefore, as Auditor of the Tribunal, now separate him from the precious light of the Creator and the body and blood of Horen, and from the communion of all Faithful. We exclude him from our Holy Mother Church and all her sacraments in the Seven Skies and in this realm. We declare him excommunicate and anathema. We cast him in the outer darkness, we judge him damned with Iblees and his demons and all the reprobates to eternal fire and everlasting pain. A pyre will be lit.

We dub the assassination of High Pontiff Pontian III to be known as the Rhenyari Conspiracy. Those who harbour the excommunicated individual known as Jasper Carrington will thusly excommunicated themselves for your complicity in the Rhenyari conspiracy and will find themselves in violation of the following canonical law:

TITLE VI. Excommunication

§3 Those who aid, or otherwise shelter an individual excommunicated by the Church. They are to be guilty of the crime of Harbouring.

We will find all co-conspirators, abettors and those who were complicit in this heinous crime and bring them to justice, no matter who they are or what position they are, none are above justice. We urge all faithful men of the Empire to resist temptation and if you know anything regarding this plot, or if you simply have suspicions, do find us so we can hear you out and bring these people to justice.

Boniface, Cardinal Villavia, Auditor of the Tribunal of the Holy Canonist Church

1 hour ago, PapiZapii said:

Senator Vivaca Rutledge shrugs, sipping a cup of tea.

Matthias offers Vivaca a lump of sugar for her tea, if she wanted it. “Yes, now you see why I don’t like living in crowded cities with such high crime rate.” He’d set the small saucer down afterwards. “It’s a shame. I knew him when he was still call Eidr, not Ide, nor Potian III. May he rest well in the seven skies, that rassid.” Matthias pulled out a small journal from under his arm, jotting down ‘Eidr Haraccus’ below all the other names. He then went back to sipping his Southeron Sweet Tea.

Tovelm would scan the missive until a certain part caught his interest.

Tovelm’s eyes would widen as he read about the Sons of Malin

”I would hope that the empire would hire a Hemlock for such important matters, seem like we have been able to get our jobs done recently.”  Tovelm the Giant would mutter to himself, yet continue reading.

“May the Pontiff be with GOD now, his death seems unworthy, and far to brutal for a man of his trade.”
