The end of an Othaman

A slow and creeping feeling did come upon that d’Azor in the dead of night, his mind whirred with the noises half-real. It werent until true conversation bespoke, that dragged him from the momentary delusions his mind surely foretold. A query escaped the lip of a woman:

And you look like a pathetic man, with the mind the size of an apple seed.” That vile lady spoke, “What is your name?

For as he spoke to answer in return, it seemed the affirmation of name truly did incite only further attack. As a gauntlet, wrought in hardened steel made to slam deep upon the jaw of that aging noble.

Crack.

His feeble body fell backwards, landing onto the stoney floor below. Red ichor dripped from his maw, as it sat painfully in its place. Sickening bone struck by such force. Yet, his torment did not end. Unseen hands drew his face skywards, only plunged down towards the ground in repeated motion time and time again. Hissed words of a woman murmured to his dying ears, the last sight of a man being the moonshine of Providence, and the face of an elfess so smug.

The Undersecretaries office would be found in a messy state paperwork and quartz powder both being the main essence that could be found within it. But no sign of a goodbye letter or a testament. It seems as if the Man expected to enter his office once again and again to continue his work - would he have not passed before.

The Baron Wihelm heard of the rather somber news, making a faint grimace "I remember when me and Kehlus were mere children running about Providence! I do hope Diana is taking it well." Wilhelm thought aloud "Though there was that one time..." He trailed off with furrowed brows, thinking of certain incidents of the past.

The news of the newly deceased found its way across the land to one Lady Dowager, Elizabeth Othaman. She listened closely as she'd been told of what'd happened that late night, lips curling to a smile, releasing a cold laughter at her sons death - she'd never been fond of Kelhus or any of her children for that matter.

Meanwhile a young Lorina Othaman found herself skipping through the eastern forest toward her home manor, Valles. She'd not spent much time with any of her Uncles but was in a childish dire need of help from someone after not able to find her mother of father. Meandering up the halls to the rooms and pulling one door open. "Uncle- oh.." She purred to emptied chamber. "Vhere ist everybody nowadays.."

Though Elizavetta had done a lot of watching over the years, this seemed to be the most interesting thing to her at the time. When Kelhus' suffering had finally ended, she waited patiently for him to pass into the Seven Skies with her to see her beloved little brother once more.

Joseph d'Azor frowned as he read of the news of his brother in laws death, though no tears, no sadness came to bear. Only a demure look washed over his face as he tossed the missive into the fire and spoke out loud to himself, his thoughts drawing back to youth as he remembered an interaction with the man. "If only you had made true on your earliest promise to me. You promised never to let my dearest sister down, you vowed it with every fiber of your being and swore it to be true." Joseph watched as the paper curled, blackened and turned to ash in the fire. "God rest your soul Kelhus..." The man spoke simply signing the Lorraine, though he could not help but think the man deserved it.

Viathan Othaman was scanning his way through a tome on leatherworking when his butler appeared beside him smiling the sun's smile. That to-be Count perked up, shooting the same grin over as he slid a bookmark between the leaflets. "My! Vyr in a good mood. What's the matter?"

That servant leaned downward, whispering the news into his ear. At that very moment, Viathan couldn't help but snigger. "My, my. Kelhus has gone missing? A shame."

He leaned back, taking the cigar from his lips to snuff on the metal plate atop his thigh. In his life, Kelhus had once been his brother - yet, as they both grew, he'd become only a thorn in his side. He'd constantly attempted to take his rightful spot as Heir - Viathan scowled at the thought, shaking his head. He'd threatened his life, and his family's. And at long last, when he failed, Kelhus had played the victim. "A shame, indeed . . ."

"A shame it wasn't I that was his undoing. Burn in Hell, and not even Iblees show vy his wicked mercy, vy heathen! Burn!"

The eldest daughter of Azor, wife of the late Kelhus.. She locked herself in her bedroom with the missive held tightly in her arms. Tears flowed down her cheeks. Sobs could be heard from her whole house as her children were off playing games with each other..

“Kelhus… it has been a while since I’ve seen you.. years even, and yet your death brings me to grief so quickly..”

”How we met together during our days of Greyshelm.. my knight in shinning armor.. You held me when I was ill and desperate need of a friend. Someone to relay on.. You taught me the basics of reading and writing when we were small.. We skated on the lakes of Providence.. You fought so hard for my hand and marriage and you’ve got it.. had..”  She stumbled.. “had it..I’ll miss your love, your hugs,  our conversations of randomness. I hope you’re resting well in the Seven Skies.. God bless you.”

Her words trailed off as she fell a sleep on the floor.. the missive covered in tears as she rested…

Joseph Beckett would stare into a nearby fire after hearing the news of Kelhus passing. "For nearly thirty years we have hated each other," the lieutenant would mutter to the fire "And yet I couldn't help but hope one day we could reconcile and maybe get a bit back of our friendship before that faithful day, many years ago..." The man looks up to the ceiling, as if he hopes to see something that isn't there. "May your soul rest in peace Kelhus. You have done many terrible things to me in the past years, but I will forgive you. Maybe we can finally reconcile once I join the dead in the Seven Skies." the man would smile a bit at his last words as he would walk out of the room.

"Rest in peace, you insufferable bastard," One Master Sergeant Moores remarks, with a bitter chuckle, standing over his former comrade's grave. Gingerly, he places two bottles of whiskey by the Othaman's headstone, before offering up a salute.

His face scrunched up in contempt - or at least, it would seem to if one were to only offer a passing glance. Upon closer inspection however, one would come to realise that the foolhardy and constantly jovial veteran was actually trying to hold tears back.

"Rest in peace Kelhus... Rest in peace..." He repeats to himself, before hastily wiping the tears from his face.

Due to the nature of the Imperial Bureaucracy, Minuvas would continue to forward documents to the Undersecretary for approval.

He would not, in fact, learn of his disappearance for a few months. When after becoming frustrated that the average expected correspondence time between government agencies was being surpassed. After storming into Othamans office wondering what was causing the delay, he found a cleaned up and office with piled up letters being addressed to Othaman.

After filing an inquiry with the ISA about why Othaman had seemed to have abandoned his work, and that he should be 'encouraged' to fulfill his post, his request was processed and sent back to Minuvas a few months later stating it was believed that Othaman was not present; Minuvas elevated the matter directly to the Foreign Secretary herself using the formal arbitration process between Ministries. After this process was complete, Minuvas was notified of Othamans apparent death. Nearly a year after the death itself, Minuvas comments

"I knew Othaman in his youth, and saw him come of age. Such is the turnoil of human. May he rest in peace"
