Most Beloved Brethren, Health and Pontifical Benediction.

 

Peace amongst Canonists is God’s will and Our most earnest want. The actions of the previous, and still excommunicated and anathematized, Duke of Adria, Heinrik Sarkozic, shattered that peace and left a legacy of sin, corruption and moral bankruptcy behind in his wake. When the new Duke, Johanes van Aert, ascended to the ducal throne of Adria We were silent and waiting to see if the man would return the Adrian people to God’s holy light. We did so and afforded a time of clemency to His Grace so that he may prove himself despite his problematic election to his position of authority he now holds. The concerns over the members that comprised the electoral body were that they had supported the excommunicated Duke before and profited off of the sin and debauchery to come to their positions and flood the electorate with illegitimate votes. We had hoped the Duke Johanes would quell these worries but thus far We have seen little headway and moral degradation continue because of offenders against our most Holy Mother Church and God’s will being safeguarded, whether intentionally or not, inside the confines of Adria. The Church of the Canon will aid in the purification of the realm and offers its hand in friendship once more should some terms, for the betterment of the Adrian state, be accommodated.

To Mister Jonathan of Adria,

 

One so well versed in matters of religion ought to be aware that they are in violation of a sizable portion of Canon Law in Books I, II, IV and VI. In layman's terms, so the faithful may understand the great breaches against our most Holy Mother Church you have perpetrated, it is a crime and wanton offence to God to declare oneself an Archbishop and Cardinal with no approval or knowledge from Ourself whilst simultaneously inferring the existence of a non existent Archdiocese, namely the Archdiocese of Aboa you mention. The Canons Regular of the Colossus Saint Humbert of Bar is not nor shall be an officially recognised order of any sort and to consort with it is to be at odds with Ourselves and the true Holy Mother Church. You claim to act for the Church of the Canon, placing yourself as the supreme authority over ecclesiastical matters with your only superior being God in direct opposition of the very foundational laws of our religion where it is expressly stated “An archbishop’s superior is always the High Pontiff.”

 

We have already implored the Lord Markus Sarkozic, one of the true faithful, to deal with and reprimand you and those who would so flagrantly breach Canon Law within the lands of the Duchy of Adria. You have automatically incurred your own excommunication for your crimes against virtue, against the unity of the church, against ecclesiastical authority, against truth and against the covenants. You are called to ecclesiastical trial and We expect to hear from you soon.

To the House of von Draco,

 

At the end of Almaris, there was an attack and murder against one of Our own brethren, a Father of the Church of the Canon, whose body was mutilated beyond recognition while he was attempting to sue a soldier of Adria for peace against an unarmed woman who was brutalised and captured regardless after his demise. Despite the missive from the Duchy of Adria claiming to have executed the perpetrator We have had a number of witnesses come forth and We have made inquiries that all resulted in the same story being told. There were three citizens of Adria involved in the abhorrent act, the executed Fritjof Maor, a banditting soldier donning the armour of the House of von Draco, and another member of Adria’s own military whom all watched, aided and acted as conspirators. All done not even a full Saint’s day after the Duke’s own promise of affording members of the clergy and unarmed women protection. We see now that the Duke has no control of his wayward vassals and soldiers who will continue to commit the most heinous sins without remorse unless we offer Our aid.

 

We see now that as the Vicar of God and High Servant to the Exalted’s Testaments that We must formally deal with the scourge that corrupts the Duchy of Adria. Thus We, the Pontificate, declare that the House von Draco and all its members be branded EXCOMMUNICATE and ANATHEMA from henceforth. Long have the von Dracos been intimately linked with the Azdrazi and afforded no punishment for their many other crimes. Members of the House of von Draco will be spiritually amputated from the Canonist Church until such a time should come that they submit themselves to Our judgement at the Holy See and repent of their sins.

To His Grace, Johanes van Aert, Duke of Adria, 

 

We are most saddened to see the corruption, wroth and sin from the days of Heinrik Sarkozic continue. You yourself are guilty of sins We find weighing on your immortal soul and growing larger by the day. Amongst them is reverence you hold for the excommunicated Heinrik Sarkozic, going as far to dub him ‘the Victor’. We find this harmful and at odds with the Church of the Canon and its teachings that you claim you wish to be preserved in your realm. There is no victory or glory to be found in Heinrik’s achievements or rule, as he is a man at odds with God and unrepentant. His soul will be lost to the Void. Do not follow him, We beg of you.

 

Furthermore, despite suing for a white peace you made your point by raiding and capturing men and women from the regions of Minitz and Reinmar whilst they were in mourning at a funeral, and the League’s forces were off fighting the Mori. We find it appalling you would sanction such an action and seek political gain with it in the same breath you espouse the causes of God and peace. No sincere peace has been found this way in all of history. 

 

We do not yet believe you lost, Duke Johanes, but the corruption in your state runs rampant and your soul requires penance for your sins as it does any Canonist. We have found that corruption begets more corruption and We pray solemnly you, with the help of the Holy Mother Church, may oust said corruption once and for all and forge this peace you claim you want amongst all the Canonist Princes and peoples. We will work hand in hand to rid Canonist lands of any Godfreyists and Azdrazi that linger and taint for they are heathens and Ibleesian monsters respectively, bringing with them naught but evil. We make it clear that those found working for or are an intricate part of the Azdrazi menace are removed from God Himself.

 

We understand concerns you may have over appearing before Us for confession, penance and absolution so We will make clear the terms set before you should you wish to be absolved and We will take no further action against yourself nor Adria should you comply, as a good Canonist should for it is God’s will We seek to manifest. Stemming from the days of your predecessor, too many corrupt figures, forces and people have profited off of wanton offences against God and His Church and continue to wreak havoc amongst the true faithful. The anathema of Heinrik Sarkozic extends to them for supporting him throughout the entirety of his rule as an excommunicant and unlawful ruler. They did not leave his side nor deposed him which is in direct contradiction to Canon Law. 

 

Thus We, as High Pontiff and Vicar of God, decree to you that a purification, as ruler of Adria, is necessary and we must begin to wash away the corruption and spiritually amputated from your lands. Firstly, to ensure you alongside the Church of the Canon and Our Holy Inquisition are successful, you must banish the Houses of von Draco, in accordance with their anathema status, and Vilac, excluding the Ladies Emerentia and Aureliana. Then We can have Our brethren and Holy Inquisition aid you in weeding out the rest so that we may mend the divisions and better all of Canondom. Secondly, the arrest of Heinrik Sarkozic and Jonathan of Adria, styling himself as Cardinal, and subsequent handing off to the custody of the Church of the Canon should they reappear in Adria once more.

 

We are most hopeful you will comply and have been assured by Lord Markus Sarkozic that the necessary steps will be taken to mend the divides created by the ungodly of the past and the lingering corruption which we will wipe clean together. We eagerly wait to meet with your Grace in the near future and discuss how the Holy Mother Church and the Duchy of Adria can once more be at peace and in the meantime We pray for your soul.
